I’m beginning to worry that Faithlife is on extremely shaky financial footing.  With the mass layoffs last year, many staple annual sales that were discontinued in recent months (ETS/SBL, Sunday of the Word of God, etc, all of which were very high discounts in previous years), and now the birthday coupon changes to cut out the customers that spend under $50, combined with major publishers like Eisenbraun pulling off of the platform but staying with competitors, the picture it’s painting for Faithlife is worrisome.

Is this an assumption or is there any basis? As far as I can tell, Faithlife seems to be doing well and expanding. Even what I learned is that there was an entry of investors and financial support, which do not change Faithlife's ministerial policy and allow it to continue growing. But if anyone has more information that points to a crisis, it would be good to point it out here. The mere fact that a publisher prefers to leave the platform does not mean anything, as the publisher evaluates whether or not the value it receives is worth it. I know publishers that either don't want to enter or don't accept their books being included in packages because they didn't consider the proposal advantageous.

Welll....  I went to buy a car not long ago...  dealer offered me $5,000.00 off if I buy a new one...  but I didn't take it...  just bought another used one... But the gift was there IF I wanted to spend more money. And many people probably took the gift...

I chose not to.  My choice.

Not an assumption at all, that was straight from the horse’s mouth, look at the wording they used in the original announcement:  “We’re making this change with our customers and best practices in mind, and it will allow us to continue offering birthday coupons in the years to come.”  Seems pretty clear that it’s not financially sustainable to keep offering the $20 birthday credit (as well as the pastor appreciation month credit that they quietly ended last year as well).

Not an assumption at all, that was straight from the horse’s mouth, look at the wording they used in the original announcement: ...

Given the CEO position changed from coding to financial (perspectives) would predict a tightening up, and lightening the ship. The 'crisis' (an exaggeration word) is the dumping of customers that were given commitments.  Normally you don't do that, and certainly not for Christian environments. You'd definitely have to have some sort of problem.  Saying this will help Faithlife's strategic direction ... well sure, if the ship is sinking.

But that said, Faithlife can still benefit from consolidating markets (Accordance, and some smaller ones).  That'll work for maybe 5+ years.  After that, you have to look at the religious (and academic) markets ... how much thin purchasing (typically students, and curious church go-ers), versus deep-purchasing (pastors, enthusiasts).  The latter, I'd think is the key question for Faithlife's long-term viability ... churning out the package sales.

I understand your concerns about Faithlife's financial situation. It's never easy to see changes happening in a company that we've come to rely on. However, it's important to keep in mind that companies often go through ups and downs, and it's possible that Faithlife is simply going through a period of transition. That being said, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on any changes in the company's financial situation and to make informed decisions about how to proceed. If you have any specific questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Faithlife's customer service team for more information.

    Just asking:

    - You have your email settings allowing contact?

    - You checked your spam box?

    - Profile filled out (not sure; they used to demand that)?

Are you signed up for any of the company emails or newsletters? I discovered that a subscription to some kind of email or such is a requirement to receive the Birthday email.

I called sales/support when I had not gotten the coupon after I had stopped all automatic emails from the company and learned of the subscription requirement. They also gave me the code since I still had some days in my birthday month. ;)

👉 P.S. If you haven’t been getting your birthday coupon, make sure your birthday is listed on your account here.

I just realized that i haven't received my birthday coupon this year although I have always received it in the past years. When checking my profile, I noticed that my birthday date was no longer there. Let's hope Customer Service will send a code now after I re-entered my birthday.

I don't remember if I received an email, but there was a notification with coupon code on the homepage when I opened Logos.

did the birthday program get discontinued? Dec is my birthday month and I didn't get an email last month like I normally have in the past.

I never received an email, but had a code on the Dashboard... But for some reason, as January birthday user, the code from my dashboard expired January 1 - so I never was able to use it, if I chose to…

So… I contacted Customer Service via chat and it sounds like my Dashboard decided that I was a December birthday, in spite of my birthday clearly listed and confirmed listed as January in my profile…. Supposed to be fixed now and I was told I should receive an email within a couple days…. (Not sure why it wasn't just given to me like in the past when codes didn't come through - but it is the "New Era")

So far I am getting a promotional ad email from Logos each day since notifying CS of the issue with the January birthday code.... Or issue with the code they posted on my dashboard personally. No new working code though LOL

Third promotional email of the day.... Incorrect information on top of it. Tells me I can save on a resource pack for the two of four resources that I don't own.... Funny, I own the whole set... So spam me with promo emails that aren't even accurate....

Seriously, is there any oversight on this stuff? All this, because I asked about getting the correct birthday code so I could make a purchase.... Couldn't just give me the code, had to subscribe me to all these emails...

Sure... They don't have to give us the birthday promo.... But, I don't have to give them my purchase either....

Seriously, is there any oversight on this stuff?

Their marketing emails are out of control. At the start of December I decided I no longer wanted the promo emails, so I went to my account and unchecked everything except emails for Word by Word and Learn Logos. More than two weeks later I was still getting their daily 'suggestions for your library' emails. I got so sick of it, I unsubscribed from everything, and now I'm blessedly free of all Logos emails except for order confirmations. I want to go back and sign up for the Word by Word and Learn Logos emails, but I'm afraid I'll start getting these 'spam' emails again 😔

I guess some in CS think you have to receive all these emails (which I wasn't receiving when I was provided with the wrong code on my Logos Dashboard.... Though my birthday is clearly listed in my profile...) Not sure why they couldn't just provide me the correct code... But like you, I'm ready to unsubscribe from everything.... It will save me more money than the code and without poorly prepared marketing...

Yea, the marketing emails are a little much. I get like 5 to 10 a day - Suggestions to your library; Time left on sweet deal; check out this deal; look what you can pre-order; just released!; Bible nerds we got you; #% off deal just for you!; and etc (I just looked at yesterday's to get these titles). I got to the point they just go to the junk folder. Like Frank said, they don't consider what I own. Since this subscription thing kicked off, Logos emails act like they don't know me. I hope they read this and see it fails. Maybe it can improve.

Yes. I find the deluge of scattergun emails mystifying, and I wonder if such a high volume is in Logos’ best interest. Seems to me that their promotion and pricing could be more targeted and compelling.

My birthday is on my account (December) but I didn't get a birthday discount.

I sort of though maybe it had been discontinued.

Did you happen to check the Dashboard in Logos - I never received an email, but they seem to have posted the December code for me (January) on the Dashboard. I wound up unsubscribing for all emails - as I was told the January code would be emailed to me - but all I received was numerous poorly prepared marketing emails….

You don't even need to receive the email as it will appear on the dashboard of the Logos app on a computer. My birthday was last month and I received on the 1st, plus it appeared on my Logos dashboard on the 1st.

  • Frank Sauer
Frank Sauer Member Posts: 2,040 ✭✭✭✭

The code did appear on my Dashboard - problem is that they posted the December code on my Dashboard - rather than January (which is my month)…. CS, rather than just supplying me the code for January after verifying that I am January - told me I would receive it via email and signed me up for promo emails that I did not want…. CS in the "Golden Era" would have just provided me with the code - the "New Era" not so much LOL

"Golden Era". Excellent point. I don't know if the PE, but sort of a delayed sloppiness in the 'New Era'.

I emailed them last month and got my birthday code within a couple of hours. I've never had a problem with this program.

I can't recall ever having a problem either - the once or twice I didn't receive it - it was because I unsubscribed from all emails and if I contacted CS, they emailed it immediately or just gave it to me via chat…. Not this time. I even contacted Sales and they didn't provide me with it, only let me know what my price would be with it applied…. Didn't even apply it to the cart, so I could use it at my convenience….

@Frank Sauer Very odd. If you haven't received the code yet, I'd put an order in your cart and contact customer service to process with the correct code, which they can do for you.

That's the problem, they want me to process an order when asking for the code - which I'm not ready to do....

Just wanted to chime in on behalf of the Logos team (and thanks for reaching out to CS as well). I apologize for the inconvenience! The birthday program is still running and we want to ensure each customer receives their code without friction as our appreciation of your ongoing use of our platform!

The code for anyone with a January birthday in their Logos account to use (by 11:59 p.m. PST 1/31) is 20251LZX

I did just test and validate that the code is working correctly, but have flagged with our internal teams to double-check our system to ensure everything for 2025 code distribution is working as expected. Thank you for raising the issue here!

Just another thought. My rep would invariably be happy to help if I asked him. While almost everything on Logos seems to be automated for convenience, I value my rep. Lots of Logos users may never have reached out to a rep. They can help you get the best deal all year long if it's available. Ask!

Thanks @Cheyenne Lehto - I can't speak for the others, but my personal issue was that the system posted what wound up being the December code on my Logos Dashboard, rather than the January code. (My birthday has been correctly listed the whole time and was verified by CS)

If that information is helpful for them to search for potential bugs in the setup

Yes, that’s my experience too. There were 1-2 years where you had to ask for the coupon - it didn’t just arrive, but it now seems a reliable process.

Garrell, just double-checked to ensure this is working on your behalf. Made a tweak on our end, so try now and let me know if you run into any other issues!

Thanks for this info, Frank! We got to the bottom of this and noticed a few incorrect things related to the new year. Should be fixed and running more smoothly in the rest of the month and months to come. Appreciate everyone chiming in to bring this to our Logos team's attention!
