Official: How do you find "Insert Passage Block in Sermon Builder"?

When you type in a Bible passage into Sermon Builder, you get the option of inserting the text of that verse into your sermon, either inline or as a passage block, by pressing Tab or Enter.

One problem with this feature is that sometimes it's possible to accidentally insert a passage block. Perhaps you happened to enter a Bible reference at the end of a line or paragraph, and intended that pressing Enter would start a new paragraph or list item, and were surprised when a passage block was inserted.

One way to solve this problem would be to require you to type CTRL+Enter or Option+Enter to insert a passage block (or something like that). That would give you much more control over whether a passage block was inserted, but would require you to think a bit about the right key combination to get it in.

So, my questions to you are:

Do you find yourselves inserting passage blocks by mistake?
Would changing the key from "Enter" to "Something+Enter" help or hinder your workflow, or perhaps make no difference at all?

This would be very helpful. I miss the button to insert the bible passage after you had finished that section of typing. I used that feature often and would like to see it come back.

Not sure if this is where to leave a comment on this other frustration but, having to always go up to the tip menu to backspace the indents is very frustrating and a huge hassle. The key strokes to do this were fine as they were. Why was this changed?

I agree. That would be helpful.

by the way: if I enter a Bible passage the the verse will be inserted. But after that I have the passage description e.g. Gen 1,1 two times in my sermon. One from my entry, one from the inserted verse… could you change that, too?

Hey @Mark Barnes (Logos), I do accidentally insert the text in a block quite regularly. I have just used a "." in the past, or a "-", as I rarely use the passage block. If you change it to add an extra keystroke, as per your question, would be show as a pop-up like thing as it does now in the Sermon Builder? That way it would remind the user on how to do the block text.

I agree with the suggested change, which would allow Enter to perform its default function even after a Bible reference has been typed out. Ctrl+Enter seems to me like a great change. I would expect this to be added to the popup, as Jonathan mentioned, showing "Insert block (Ctrl+↵)".

@Stephan Thelen if a Bible reference is typed as the first thing on a line, it will disappear and be replaced by the block reference. I imagine they do not delete the reference if there are words prior to it on the line, because, for example, if you conclude a sentence with a Bible reference and then use that reference to insert a block reference, deleting the initial reference would result in you now having an incomplete sentence. Instead, I recommend you start a new line if you would like to insert a block reference without having duplicate references.

I would find an added keystroke to the passage insertion helpful, leaving "enter" to do its normal keyboard function.

I wouldn't mind CTRl+Enter.

One other suggestion I would have is that after inserting a scripture block it also start a new line. Currently if you enter a passage and keep typing you can start to edit the passage block itself.

Can this be a toggle in settings? Let me choose to make it "enter" or alt+enter? Threw me for a loop in the last beta.

I use "insert inline" and "insert passage block" regularly. Sometimes, muscle memory is faster than my brain, and I do acidentally "insert passage block" when I didn't want to. BUT, it sure is convenient, when I intend to "insert passage block," to do it merely by hitting enter.

I'd be fine with the proposed changes, OR with leaving it the way it is. I think I'll adapt to either way. 😊
