Am I doing something wrong when copy / pasting a link?

This is with Logos 40.0 on Windows 11

I wanted to add a link to a section of the New Bible Commentary to a note - so I used the Copy link button in the Share tab and then pasted it onto a word in a note. The link seemed to be referencing the NBC as expected

But when I hover over it, it shows the LEB (which is my highest prioritised Bible) - and clicking the link opens the LEB

Am I doing something wrong/ misunderstanding how this should work - or is there an issue here?

There is an issue here. I followed your example and can 100% recreate: the "copy link" button copies a valid ref.ly-link to the section in NBC which works (on hovering as well as on clicking i.e. showing / opening NBC to the location) when pasted directly into a note. When using the chainlink-function on the exact same link, it will somehow not point to NBC anymore but show / open the highest prioritized bible as if it was a bible link.

EDIT: I note that the ref.ly link is a new format (which maybe the chainlink functionality of Notes can't work with?) not in the style of https://ref.ly/logosref/Bible.Mt5.3-10

I recently noticed this and reported it to Customer Services who said they were able to relocate it and, would report it.

After playing around I found that if I copy a link from a versified resource like a commentary, and paste it in a note using the LINK feature in notes it would open my top bible instead. If I changes my top bible then it would open the new choice instead.

However If I copy a link form a monograph, or other non-versified resource, then the link, when pasted using the LINK feature, would work as expected.

I also noticed that in an update to the IOS mobile app a number hours ago there is a line in the what's new that reads:

Fixed issues where links were not opening resources to the proper location.

Not sure if that is related.

What you are describing is the difference between the link to reference vs. link to a selection - you've uncovered an interesting problem re: application assumptions. I don't think it has anything to do with the Notes link function; it is the copy of the link that causes the behavior. When you copy via right-click, you choose selection or reference. When you copy a link via the dynamic tool bar, I'd assumed a selection link but I haven't actually checked,

The Context menu is not the place for a URL on a commentary as selecting Reference provides a reference link for a Bible (hence it links to your preferred bible). Use Copy link from the resource toolbar if you want a URL for the actual location as it is a resource link. Paste the link into the Command Box to view it and see what it actually does!

The same applies to a book with a non-bible Reference, except that the reference linkis more likely to link to the actual resource, but the resource link will link to the exact location.

Beware of Copy Special in the toolbar as the URL tends to be a reference link.

The toolbar Copy link is a resource link to the exact location (with offsets), except for Bibles. Selection on the Context Menu does not provide a URL

I just noticed something interesting about this issue. I just updated to beta 41, so I'm not sure if it's because of that or if it was happening before the update.

when I use the copy link function in a versified resource like a commentary if the page is sitting right at the verse then when the link is pasted into a note using the link function on the notes toolbar it resolves to the verse in my top Bible, rather than the location in the commentary.

However, if I scroll down a little past the point in the page containing the Bible verse link, then when I copy the link using the toolbar button and paste it into a note using the link function it resolve to the place in the commentary where I made the copy.

I'm not sure if this was the case before the beta update, or if it is relevant to the solution, but I thought it might be worth noting.
