where is Ignatius' letter to the Ephesians?

I need help finding Ignatius' letter to the Ephesians. I own a resource which I would think would have it, but I can't find it in the table of contents. I tried doing a general search but I can only find random books talking about the letter, but nothing is linking to the letter itself.

Any help finding this would be appreciated.

Do you have one of the 'Fathers' sets?

Best are the interlinears (eg Holmes) for religious greek usage.

@Bradley Grainger (Logos) I reported this before. This URL's don't work if Logos is closed. It tries to open Logos, but only the splash screen is coming up, then it hangs. I have first to open Logos until such URL's works.

BTW. I'm on a Intel Mac if this is important to know. Logos is up to date.

A fix would be good.

@Fabian I tested this on my Mac, links to books open fine whether Logos is opened or closed. I think there is something not set up or working properly on your Mac, or at least this is a higher probability than a Logos bug at the moment imho. So here is a list of things to check or consider that may uncover the problem; go thru the list carefully:

What version of MacOS are you using? What version of Logos? I believe MacOS version 13 minimum is required.
What browser do you click the links with? Have you tried it with another browser?
Hold ⌘ while Logos is starting and choose “Use blank layout” to bypass a possibly corrupted startup layout/index, then let it finish loading (I am just brainstorming that some corruption you don't see on normal startup stops the link from being processed). If that works, rebuild/recreate the layout - you at least know where the problem is.
A possibility - if you at one time clicked “Don’t Allow” when macOS first asked for consent, your browser will still launch Logos but the URL payload never reaches it, so Logos shows only the splash screen. Check System Settings/Privacy & Security /Automation; Logos should be there on the right side, and when Logos is open you should see any items toggled on.
It could be your firewall hanging things up, actually. If you have a 3rd party firewall running, try turning it off. I don't think you have to worry otherwise, nor worry about the MacOS firewall.
I assume you don't run in Lockdown Mode or have Parental Controls running - they could be causing issues.
I assume Logos is running from the Applications folder? This can cause issues with MacOS when apps are being controlled by another app (like your browser).
Rarely, the logos URL handler entry in Launch Services breaks. Re‑register it, if you are comfortable with running this in the Terminal app (copy/paste them in, 2 commands):

/usr/bin/qlmanage -r (this tells Quick Look to reset its cache/register)

(this next one is all one line - copy/paste it - it forces Launch Services to rebuild its database)

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain user -domain local -domain system

Then after running both, log out and then log back in to your Mac.

8. If none of that works and you are comfortable with it, try this, also in Terminal - it wipes every Transparency, Consent & Control (TCC) entry macOS has recorded for Logos only - no other side effects. The only thing that will be different is the next time you click a logos:// link, macOS will behave as though Logos has never been asked before and will put up the normal dialog asking you to ALLOW your browser to Open or control Logos:

sudo tccutil reset All com.logos.desktop.logos (it will ask for your computer password to execute it):

That's all I could brainstorm. Good luck and report back!

Interesting: a new tab in Safari openend but it was blank. Same it opened Logos, but it was blank, means only the Menu show Logos but nothing else. I have gone through your steps in 8. Rarely … Now the new tab opens Logos and the Logos App is also opening. It asked me the question if I will allow …

I guess the issues came as I had before also Verbum installed and it opened always Verbum. As I have deinstalled Verbum, Logos won't open now via link.

The sudo was not necessary, it was fixed before.

I'm not a Mac user, but what I've heard is that macOS arbitrarily picks an application to use to open the link and doesn't let you choose.

(We don't actually recommend running Logos and Verbum at the same time, so I would personally solve this problem by uninstalling Verbum.)

You can also copy and paste the URL into the command box in Logos to force that URL to open Logos.

I deinstalled Verbum some months ago, but since then the Logos app won't open the links.

Funny I have it now always twice. The webapp and Logos opens now. Before non of them worked.

In case it is helpful to know, I am on a Mac M1 (so this is not an Intel issue, as Fabian is using). I am also using a different browser than he appears to be using.

On my end links "open" Verbum, but it just produces a blank screen. However, I have learned that once I am at that point, if I actively hit the home screen in Verbum, then I open the link again, it will work now.

(We don't actually recommend running Logos and Verbum at the same time, so I would personally solve this problem by uninstalling Verbum.)

Hi @Bradley Grainger (Logos), I would just like to clarify that the reason I use Verbum at all is because I sometimes truly need to have more than one layout open at a time. In Accordance I typically have somewhere between 10-15 workspaces (layouts) open at a time, but I often have 25-30 open at a time. So going to Logos and only being able to have one workspace open at a time is a literal joke regarding my ability to do my research. I can understand someone can study with one layout open, and I can understand someone teaching with only one layout open. But to do certain types of intense research requires AT LEAST two open at the same time, but even that is verging on not functional. I had tried using the web version of Logos (as someone recommended for this), but it didn't work because the web version lacks certain things which the app has. Then a few people suggested Verbum, and that has worked well. I have been very careful to never have the same layout open in both Verbum an Logos, but that is easy to do since the whole point is that I need another layout open. I typically handle it by having Accordance open as well to double for my multiple layouts, but sometimes there is a resource I only have in Logos, which is why I use Verbum at all.

So my system generally works, but I wanted to let you know this in case it is helpful for Logos to know that for some of us doing specific types of research, having on layout open at a time is truly not functional.

HI @Fabian so step 8 corrected it - great! Glad it worked.

PS to you (and others) - it seems to me the way Safari at least (maybe other browsers on Mac) handles redirects of URLs to an app, is that it opens a new tab, but before it displays anything, it realizes 'oops - this gets redirected to an app', and then it does that; leaving the blank tab open. I always see a white/blank tab in Safari when I click a URL that goes somewhere else. It can be closed at any time without hurting anything inside the app redirected to.

Status update: I restarted the Mac and now all is like before. The new tab is again blank. And Logos isn't able to start fully. I have again to first Logos until the resource is loading.

May I have to try the last steps you mentioned.

As Kristin has the same issue, or at least a very close one. It would be good Logos give a look at it too.

@Fabian so you are saying step 8 the qlmanage/lsregister/killall fixed it, but a reboot of the Mac it was broken again?

OK, that's an excellent clue. When macOS boots it rescans every volume and rebuilds part of the Launch Services (hwat we are rebuilding with the lsregister) database from scratch.

If it stumbles across another copy of Logos.app (even a very old one in /Applications (Archive), Downloads, Time‑Machine snapshots mounted in Finder, or the Trash) that copy can register the logos:// URL scheme first. Or it could be your Verbum.app from before is doing a register that competes with your "real" Logos app. Apple’s docs note that whichever app LS meets first “wins” the scheme until the database is rebuilt again.

So there are more technical ways to search for logos.app's or verbum.app's, but let's try this for now - Use Spotlight and search “Logos.app”. Delete or archive any copies that aren’t the one in /Applications (don’t forget ~/Downloads, external drives, and the Trash. Do the same searching for Verbum.app. Do you think there are any around?

Then do step 8 above (qlmanage, lsregister, killall) once more.

Then open Logos. (it will re-register as the 'owner').

Then reboot, and test clicking a link when Logos is still closed. What happens?

I tried all what you wrote. Also deleted all Verbum I have found https://community.logos.com/kb/articles/2168#Uninstalling_Logos_for_Mac. . I have found a Verbum folder in the ~library, which I deleted. Unfortunately it is not better.

The question which came up, after my first step 8, didn't come up again. So there is now a difference.

It seems I have to gone through with all steps on https://community.logos.com/kb/articles/2168#Uninstalling_Logos_for_Mac for Logos too.

Sorry it hasn't cleared up yet @Fabian . I do think it seems most likely that, if doing step 8 fixes it, and reboot breaks it, that something else is taking the registration away from your preferred Logos install. Since you have had multiple Logos/Verbum installations, maybe it is best to try and clear everything off and reinstall.

This might help - it's a more reliable search on your laptop of all potential hideouts for faithlife apps:

mdfind 'kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == "com.logos.desktop.logos" || kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == "com.logos.desktop.verbum"'

It's all one line, carefully copy/paste in Terminal app. It will also show you where the rogue ones are.

When I return it, I get:

/Applications/Verbum.app

Which is correct - only 1 app.

You might see something like this:

/Applications/Verbum.app
/Users/<user>/Downloads/Logos.dmg/Logos.app
/Volumes/Backup/Applications (Archive)/Logos.app

Depending on what you see, we can help get rid of them if you don't know how.

So proceed with what you are doing - clear out ALL Logos + Verbum on your computer. Run this mdfind command, see if it reports anything - it should report nothing. At that point, install Logos clean, run it, close it, and see if ref links open it properly!

@Fabian Hmm. So it's not a rogue duplicate.

Running out of ideas here lol….but one more attempt before you delete and reinstall (as that takes a long time) —

Do you run any cleanup/optimizer utilities like CleanMyMac, which may be running something at startup or shutdown to rebuild launch services, or anything that flushes caches? If so, can you turn them off for one reboot cycle, rebuild the launch services (do original "step 8"), reboot and then test a link?
I still wonder about a permissions problem, anti-virus blocking something in Logos (we have seen AV programs objecting to Logos/Verbum on people's computers recently), or corrupted layout. I am not sure what you meant by "Standard Layout, are you saying it opens to the Dashboard? Can you try going into settings, changing "At startup open to…" and pick Blank layout; quit Logos, run step 8 again, disable your AV software, then reboot and test a link.

If that fails, then something must be really messed up in the Logos install, maybe from the days of having Logos and Verbum running. It's probably time then to uninstall everything and reinstall Logos.
