working with commentary collections

I have my Bible commentaries in various collections.

I wanted to make a new collection. I thought if I tagged the books with this name, I would get these books.

i did, but I am also getting a lot of books that don't have that tag.

Why would that happen? i don't see any way to remove them from this collection.

any thoughts?

please share your actual selection criteria for the collection - sometimes even a minor error in the rule, such as an additional space or a lowercase instead of uppercase term makes a big difference.

Copy the search string from the collection and paste it here. It sounds like you didn't get quite the correct syntax.

My guess without being able to see what you are doing is that you have a query like this: mytag:Bible Commentaries, which would actually need to be something like this: mytag:"Bible Commentaries"

Can you post a screenshot showing your collection definition and some of the books in it you didn't expect to see?

In my passage guide, I added Commentaries

then from the dropdown list, I selected commentary language, which was how I was tagging these books.

Please post a screenshot of your Collections tab with that collection loaded. Make sure that the Resulting Collection view is set to Details View and that the My Tags column is scrolling into view. Make sure that at least one book is visible that doesn't have the "commentary language" tag.

your rule asks them to be of mytag:commentary (or having a mytag that starts with commentary, if you should have several) AND have the word language anywhere in their metadata. Try mytag:"commentary language" instead.

How are they tagged - can you show the information field of one of them, or the My Tags column in the library for some?

Scroll the list of books to the right so we can see the tags on each book.

Do you have a tag with a name that starts with "commentary language"? Because I believe the mytag matching looks for a match anywhere in the tag, not an exact match.

If you want an exact match, you can use some special syntax documented here: https://community.logos.com/kb/articles/1032-library (look for the section titled "Search Fields that you can use in the Find box" but note that the link near the top doesn't seem to work)

That would look like {MyTag "commentary language"}

Are you getting books in the Commentary section of the Passage Guide that are not in the Collection?

If so, then in the Passage Guide are you specifying the Collection or the tag?

The Collection shows as unnamed - did you mean to name it something, such as Commentary Language?

@Graham Criddle I only made the collection, because people here asked for it. I tagged books commentary language. In the passage guide, half the results don't have that tag.

No, but there are two community tags: commentary-language and commentarylanguage

Larry, We really need to see a screenshot of your Collection that shows the column My Tags, as below:

I used the strict rule for mytag and it will not include community tags, which require communitytag:"Commentary language". If you want to capture both types, then use tag:"Commentary language".
