Hello, I wanted to throw a discussion out there to express a frustration (too strong a word) I've had with the Logos programs for as long as I've used it (since L5 days). It has to do with resource linking and particularly verse divisions. Before I go any further, I have to say that I'm not upset whatsoever; I'm heavily invested in the Logos ecosystem. I've used it every day for years for personal study and I am a pastor and use it for sermon prep all the time. I love the program, but I run into this little snag almost every day.
In my study, I regularly have multiple Bible resources open at a time, English Bibles and original language resources, and I link them together using the linkset feature. However, I've always felt that the breakpoints for verses is a bit counterintuitive and takes some finagling to get it to display what I want. It seems that the link set is based on whatever verse starts the first line in the active viewport.
See the following example as fodder for discussion:
So here, my English Bible is clearly focused on verse 12, but since there are a few words left of verse 11 in my viewport, my Hebrew Bible in the bottom pane is still focused on verse 11. This is the snag and regular frustration I experience with link sets! I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting the link sets to maybe be a bit smarter in how they display these resources in other viewports? I'm sure there must be some sort of algorithm that could be developed that would make this more intuitive?
I remember way back in the day, I thought the link sets were more "analog" in how they synced with one other, especially with the way the marketing videos showed smooth transitions between link sets. Frankly, I'm not arguing that they should be exactly like that (though that would be awesome), but I would love it even if the link sets calculated based on what verse the first line ended with instead of which verse the line started with. That might resolve some of the snag. Maybe not.
I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking this, but I know that it regularly causes ripples in the pond of my mind as I study and is one way that the interface regularly keeps me back from fluid meditation. For those who are more connected than I, has Faithlife ever talked about this or even mentioned the idea of improving the way that link sets relate to other resources? Does this snag ripple anyone else's pond like it does mine?
