Logos for a Seminarian

Hi! My husband will be starting as a first year seminary student at Concordia in St. Louis MO.
I have been thinking about getting him a tablet to take to class and more on the go purposes vs his laptop. From what I’m reading is that logos can be a very powerful tool for students and pastors. I heard that he can get most of his textbooks through logos as well. I thought that a tablet would be better for reading highlighting and note taking. Is the app version equipped for all these capabilities? I am trying to think of this tablet as an investment in his future career. So can the app version preform similarly to the full fledged version installed on a computer?

Also any recommendations on what kind of tablet would run logos best last longest and have the most storage so he can use in not only in school but have it as a powerful resource as a pastor.

iPad Pro would be best for easy use, however if you want a desktop like experience in a tablet, Surface Pro 11 13"

would the functionality of logos differ from the iPad Pro vs the surface Pro 11?
He already has a HP laptop that runs windows 11. I want something that more of a tablet that he can easily take notes in, read book, highlight, and runs logos smoothly and seamlessly. I imagine he will be typing his papers a on his laptop but I thought another tablet where he could easily reference his notes highlights and books while writing his papers would be beneficial.

Absent reading/highlighting, I'm guessing he would soon be missing this or that little feature available or enhanced on his laptop version. Certainly good for in-class notes, though.

The mobile version is quite slimmed down to a target customer (eg light study, pastors/sermons, in-church use). I'd sure ask him.

Which? Best if matches his phone (eg ios, etc). And if you do buy an ipad, larger, to allow multiple open panels. But fit in his backpack.

I contacted the technology help desk at the seminary and I was told that he would be able to get most of his books through logos. Is this true on the app version built for iPads?

I was in undergrad 10 years ago… so in someways I already feel like a dinosaur with how quickly technology is evolving.
But I had a kindle and I liked how I could get some books and the highlighting and note taking features were so nice. Because the kindle compiled all the highlights and notes and could be easily referenced as opposed to flipping through page after page trying to find a quote for works-sited references.

That was why I started thinking about getting him a tablet was because it would be easy to read on vs a laptop and take notes on using a stylus.

I would imagine he will have logos on both his laptop and tablet… but if the tablet app version is so much of a significant down grade that it would not be useful I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on an expensive tablet.

Well, three things:

If a book is on the laptop, it's on the mobile (only a few exceptions). It's not like Kindle.
The mobile version runs light. So you don't need the greatest power-tablet. Even refurb is fine. For a 4-year stent, you'd want latest.
Highlights don't identify their detailed source, outside Bibles. The mobile, of course, supports notes (write or paste) but better, clippings. The latter is good for papers.

You mentioned a stylus. Logos doesn't take handwriting nor conversion in the app itself. The ios version has screen writing but hugely rudimentary.

Just my guess, I can easily see him reading/highlighting, with notes. Clippings. Doing basic original languages. And of course quick access to AI help. A basic ipad or similar would work, certainly over his school years. Handy.

OK… I just imagine that he could have one device for writing a paper then have another device used for pulling up and referencing material.
When I was in college I had a laptop with a dual monitor set up, which worked great. But it’s not mobile, I could not take the set up to the library and study groups. This is lighter weight and more versatile… or so I’m thinking.

In my very old kindle I could open a book and it would compile my highlights for me so it was super easy to look up quotes for works-sited. I could imagine that an iPad would have the same features?

And just to be clear you’re recommending one of the latest models for a sem student and possibly beyond. I also want the devise to last as long as possible and for that I have seen Apple outpaces the competition as far as longevity of tablets and keeping pace with future updates.

Well, true about Apple. But Logos goes back shorter versions, ergo replace maybe at graduation? BTW he'll make great use after graduation (Logos).

The highlight problem isn't a complete wash. In notes (where highlights end up) you can click on the highlight and it will pop you to the book location. Kindle won't do that. I'm bad about highlighting a word or even a letter and having no idea what/where the point was!
