MCP Server for Logos Bible Software

I'd love to see Logos build an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so users can connect their Logos library directly to AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and others.

Right now, Logos and AI assistants are completely siloed. An MCP integration would let me query my commentaries, lexicons, and original language resources from within an AI workflow — no copy-pasting, no tab switching.

MCP is an open standard with strong momentum (Google Drive, Salesforce, Gmail, and many others already have servers). Logos's resource depth makes it one of the most compelling candidates for this kind of integration.

Happy to beta test. Please put this on the roadmap.

Do you have any examples of other applications using copyrighted content in such a setting and with consent of the rights holder?

This is a great idea but the content ("commentaries, lexicons, and original language resource") is not ours to expose to AI models through an MCP Server.

Additionally, many of our agreements with publishers prohibit the use of their copyrighted material for training AI models. We could not honor our contractual obligations if we permitted use of the content with free or personal ChatGPT plans which often do train on all user input.

Regarding AI training: Anthropic explicitly states it does not train on user conversations for Claude Pro or API users. This is a documented policy. An MCP integration with Logos scoped to those endpoints would not expose publisher content to model training at all.

On copyright: an MCP server doesn’t need to expose content externally. It could be designed as a local server running on the user’s device, serving content only to the authenticated user who already has a valid license for the content they’re accessing. The content never leaves their device, never touches a third-party server, and is never seen by anyone other than the paying user. This is functionally equivalent to Logos displaying content within its app.

This isn’t theoretical. I currently use MCP servers for other platforms, such as Salesforce, Google Drive, and Gmail, that require user authentication and strictly restrict content to authenticated users. The pattern is already well-established in the MCP ecosystem. Logos wouldn’t be pioneering anything new; it would simply adopt a proven model. Readwise is another example of a company that uses an MCP server to access content.

The publisher agreements restrict redistribution and training, not personal use by the licensee. A local-only, authenticated MCP would respect both of these constraints.

I believe there’s a way forward that benefits publishers, Logos, and users alike.
