Microsoft update now Logos will not load up

I had a 17 item Microsoft update to my Windows XP and now Logos will not load up. This is the error message I am getting...
Tried to upload 3 items....looks like can only upload 1 now.....used to be easier....

Chuck,
I'm only guessing but it seems that there was an update to the Windows .NET in the latest update which has caused trouble for at least on other person who is using XP.

I am holding off on accepting any updates from Windows until we know why this breaks Logos and until there's a fix for it. Do we know that it's for sure limited only to XP? (I'm running Vista.)

Thanks....yes, their was an .net security update.....

There were no such issues with Windows 7. Everything seems to be working fine.

Ditto for windows 7. But I'm refusing the .NET updates for XP until things settle down!

Interesting that it works offline but not online.
The work-around would seem to be to do the system restore again then custom install the Microsoft updates omitting the .NET one.

I just did the Microsoft update on laptop (Windows 7 x64) and desktop (Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) and Logos runs fine on both.

I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit. Loads fine after downloading & installing Microsoft's recent update.

I'm running Logos4.0d Beta 3 now, and took the 17ish Microsoft updates without issue. My PC is Vista32 Pro.
Looking again in my Windows Updates Log, one of them was an update to .NET per http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms10-041.mspx
Windows XP is covered within that. So yes, its possible that it might have some impact with Logos4, but if so, I would have expected a few 10's to 100's or more reports from XP users here, or elsewhere. Logos would have been hearing about it for sure if it impacted most or all XP users.

"The work-around would seem to be to do the system restore again then
custom install the Microsoft updates omitting the .NET one."That is what I did and everything is working fine. Logos wasn't the only thing affected. I use TDAmeritrade to watch my retirement investments and the steamer didn't work either with the .net updates. Now working again....

I ran into the same problem with XP and the Windows update, but I did a system restore and it did not fix the problem.
I tried uninstalling and then re-installing the latest version of Logos 4, but that didn't work either.
I could get it to open offline, but that does me no good since I just reinstalled the program and now can't access my resources.
I'm going to try restoring again to undo my uninstall of Logos 4, any other suggestions? It seems very much that the program is failing on sign in.

I use Windows XP SP3 and have had no problems with Logos 4 after its latest upgrade. However, Zone Alarm Security Systems did have a recent upgrade which destabilized many programs including Logos. I downgraded ZASS to the prior verion and now everything works fine.
Version 9.1.507 caused the problem and downgrading to 9.1.008 fixed it. They are now up to 9.1.603 but I'll wait awhile now to upgrade that product.

Make sure logging is enabled Diagnostic Logging. If necessary upload them as per Uploading Logs.
If you want to avoid downloading then try Method 3 at Quick

After I installed the 17 windows updates for Window 7, Logos 4 won't do the latest Logos update. It keeps showing the error message:
Verify that you have
access to that directory (...\Logos4\System\es\Libronix.DigitalLibrary.Documents.resoureces.dll).Then it cancels the installation process...

That's a separate problem. Close L4 and try the web link http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
If you get the same error then right click the L4 shortcut and "Run as administrator", then enter Update Now into the command box.Dave

I'm running vista ultimate and 2008 server software. Logos 4 opened fine after the updates but would stop working whenever I opened the NIV Bible, all other bibles opened fine. Trying to find a work around I tried opening NIV in a floating window, Logos stopped working again and now i am unable to open Logos at all. I have tried doing a system restore to a date prior to the windows updates but that hasn;t resolved the problem, i also tried using an earlier mirrored file of Logos but i am still unable to open Logos. I haven't tried reinstalling Logos but note from other posts that this doesn;t appear to be helpful either. Here's hoping Logos will resolve the problem soon.

Please try to start it using http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_Not_Starting. Whether it succeeds or not please upload logs as indicated and enable permanent logging.

Does that mean they will investigate and get back to me?
Is there any point completely uninstalling Logos and doing a new install - or is that unlikely to make a difference?

They'll review the log and get back to me. There may be something less drastic you can do to workaround the problem instead of uninstalling. I'll update this thread as soon as I hear from them.

No, not at all
I was on the phone with Don from tech support a couple of days ago and he determined that the issue was with my computer and the latest update to the .NET framework. Until Windows updates with a patch to fix that problem, I can't really do much. My laptop barely meets the minimum requirements to run Logos in the first place, so I am seriously contemplating purchasing a new laptop today since even if this gets resolved, I'm still just limping along. It runs incredibly slow when it does finally open.
Thanks for checking back in, I've pretty much abandoned trying to solve it though since it's an issue with Windows and my pc.

Neil,
Development asks if you could try updating to 4.0d Beta 4, since there have been a lot of changes to the code referenced in the crash log in 4.0d. To install the beta, click on this link: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/InstallerBeta/Logos4Setup.exe.
For more information about beta versions: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8883.aspx.
Let us know if you encounter any problems with the update, and whether or not 4.0d resolves the problem.

Check other threads (or do a forum search) for "advice on computers/laptop for L4" or similar words in the title as they have a wealth of advice.
God bless,

Praise the Lord! and you and the development team! That has allowed me to open Logos and the NIV Bible opens fine as well, I haven't tested anything else fully yet but will let you know if i strike any problems.
So does this mean I just stick with the Beta version now or do i need to update it at some point or will that all happen automatically.
Thanks for all your help - I'm wrapped to be up an running again :-)

Go to the PC Beta Forum (link at bottom of Logos4 Forum page) and read the top threads. You will get instructions on how to update to the next beta and when it eventually is released as 4.0d.

Oh dear seems as if my problem has returned, Logos 4 (beta) was working fine yesterday, yet today when i tried to open it i get the stoped working error again. Opening it using ctrl and selecting blank layout enabled it to open, how ever when i loaded my basic layout window design it stopped working again. See attached logs. If you could investigate and advise please as this is meant to be a work around to the standard version of Logos. 7288.Logos4.log

If you delete that layout and recreate it, does it make any difference? Is the NIV included in the layout?

I'll submit this log to development. Thanks.
Edit: Neil -- the developers are needing a full log. Can you enable logging, start Logos up normally (not to blank layout) and attach the Logos4.log file? You'll find instructions here: http://www.logos.com/L4/Support/DiagnosticLogging.

Its OK Joe - relax [:)]
This thread has been ongoing for a while now, and a few posts back, Development and Melissa asked Neil to install the Beta. If its ongoing, someone might move this whole thing into Beta, but the initial fault being addressed was with the released version.

Hi Melissa, see files attached. I've also noticed if i open with blank layout and then go to the home screen it crashes then as well.
I note a comment was made this should be loaded under the Beta forum. let me know if you want stuff loaded there rather than this thread, as was pointed out though the original fault is with the production Logos not Beta.
Thanks for your help

Run a hard disk check to see if there are any errors. But I recommend to uninstall L4 from Control Panel. Save your L4 Resource folder (very important!) and delete the Logos4 folder. Then re-install using Method 3 at Quick
Installation onto multiple computers (don't worry about installing the beta!).Dave

Neil, you said things seem to be deteriorating. If you have any reason to suspect your hard disk might be getting close to failing (other software having odd behavior, everything seeming to slow down or occasional recoverable boot failures / CHKDSK running automatically on startup, etc.), I'd recommend you back up your hard disk now, in case things get worse. I've just gone through another hard disk failure (second in 12 months) and it's a pain in the neck if you don't have a recent backup. Hard disks do fail. I seem to be particularly hard on them. Not all crashes are signs that your hard disk is about to fail; certainly that usually isn't the case. But if all the attempts to fix what's going on in Logos get you nowhere, and you start seeing some of these other symptoms and other programs being affected, that's what I'd begin to suspect.
