L4B3 Eugene Peterson's "The Message"

In the first two iterations of L4, I could go to the library feature and type "the message" and while several items were on the list, Eugene Peterson's "The Message" always showed up at the top of the list.

Now, with L4B3, I open the Library, I type "The Message" and there are 302 entries, the first multitude of which are have nothing at all to do with The Message. E.g., Lockman's Amplified Bible, and Wiersbe's Be Amazed.

I note that the listing is supposed to be by title, so the first entry is 1Peter. But, the "rank" order has no corollary to the titles listed (although when I change the list to reflect the rank, the The Message pops up at Number 1). The problem is that if I simply type a title of a resource, I expect that resource to be listed (as it has been since the early stages of Series X) and at the same time I don't expect to find 300 entries that have absolutely nothing to do with the title.

Mind you, since we're dealing with a string -- I don't mind at all finding entries for the IVP's "The Message of..." following my request for The Message. But the rest of that stuff doesn't even belong.

Hello Dale,

When Library is opened in Details view it will be sorted by Title alphabetically. If you click on the Rank column heading, it will sort by Rank and then The Message will be at the top, as it is ranked 1st. When Library is in Tiles view, you'll find that The Message will be at the top, as it will be sorted by rank.

The reason there are so many matches, is because the Find in Library now finds more than just the Title of a book. If you hover over a few of the texts listed alphabetically, you'll notice the phrase 'the message' in the bibliographic information in the tooltip (sometimes 'the' and 'message' are separated by other words).

Thanks Melissa -- that helps -- it doesn't solve the problem, but it helps. QUESTION: Since this seems to be the behavior of the library -- is there anyway to make the settings stick from one session to another? In other words, I cycled through the "views" last night and found that I could get to where "The Message" was at the top of the list when I searched for "The Message." Good, that's what I wanted -- I want to see what I'm looking for and not have to hunt through 300 more listings to find what should have been found the first time.

However, comma, each time I close L4B3, and start with a new search, I've got to cycle through the views again (and you've got to cycle through a very unresponsive process, IMHO) since there's no drop down list to let me pick the one I wish to use. Personally, I'm still trying to figure out the "default" setting isn't one that gives me a listing alphabetically by rank that shows me the titles I'm looking for rather than the view that keeps showing up as the default view.

I'm attaching a .pdf with two images in the file - Library view 1.png is the default I face when I open library and type "The Message" while Library view 2 is what I'd either like to see as the default, or as something I can set as my default. The presentation in view 1 is useless to me -- and making me cycle through three or four or five settings each time I open the library is not helpful at making the program useful.

It brought up one resource The Message bible.

using the "title" operator is usally a really good way to sort or find things.

Try clicking on View on the Library toolbar to change to Tiles view. This will sort the books by rank, so when you type an exact title it will be the first match. This view will be remembered the next time you open Library. If you prefer to type commands, Robert's suggestion is very helpful. You can also type 'the message' in the Command box, without title: in front, and the first option will be 'Open The Message'.

Melissa, a side note of looking at the library...any idea as to when a fix will be in so that the sort column is fully exposed rather then minimized so you have to expand the column.

It is a major annoyance to have to reset that everytime I start up L4B*.
