Space Bar and Active Resource
I often used the space bar to advance the page in a resource. I find this feature no longer works. I have to either use the mouse or find and hit the small page up or page own button. I see carpal tunnel coming with any amount of extended reading.
Also, though each tabbed window in a layout has the resource tab for the active window, there is no visible way to identify which window is active (i.e. will respond to my page up/down). I find myself having to click the resource I wish to read just to make sure it is active.
Hopefully there will be a way to identify the active window and to scroll effectively through a resource in upcoming releases.

No, I do notthink it is an eyesghtthing. I believe there really is no distinguishing mark to identify an active window!

Hi Kenneth, I think your comment about no way to visually discern the active window goes to the concern many have expressed in the general "blandness" of the color scheme and the need for greater contrast for those with again or bad eyesight... like me :-)
I think in Phil G.'s opening thread he mentioned that visual enhancements are coming before the final release.

It appears that the space bar function to scroll in a resource may be included in a future beta.

Thanks Melissa. Good to know. Any news on the active window identification?

Please add my vote for this. On ASUS netbooks, there is no page down button. My guess is that other netbooks would be the same. One must use the function key on the left of the keyboard with the down arrow key which is on the right. Space would be much easier. Further, I have tried out using reading mode on my netbook with the display rotated - it works very well. But, paging down through the resources is nigh on impossible - can't reach the necessary keys like this.

I have passed that along too, with your extra request I think we can push this into the release...

I am really missing this feature. Could you please allow the space bar to advance through the text? Also, it is ver helpful to have an active pane identified visually instead of having to click on a pane just to make sure it is the one to receive a command (ctrl+F, page up/down, ctrl+Home/End, etc.)

I can relate to both issues (space bar scrolling and not knowing which window is active).
As
someone mentioned the EEpc (which I also use) makes it extra difficult
since two buttons (on different sides of the keyboard) need to be
pushed to page down. I am glad to hear the space bar scrolling should
be available in a future beta.It will also be nice to have an
indication of what window is active. I am not sure if this is in the
plans for future visual enhancements, but it would be nice.www.3rdcultureliving.com - Simple Abundant Legacy

As I have had more time to use L4 to read, I would like to request even more strongly that the Space bar come back to scroll active resources. With taking 2 hands to scoll down (1 to push Fn and the other to push "down"), I can never just sit back, hold a pen, prop my head, etc. and read. I am constantly needing to adjust to hit the two keys then keep reading. PLEASE bring back the space bar scrolling.
(Along those lines, it seems many of the keyboard shortcuts of L3 are missing in L4. I am thinking they may just be holding off adding keyboard shortcuts until they get the program more nailed down. Those are an easy last minute addition that will be a hassle to change as they make adjustments to the program.)

I'm not quite sure what the issue is; I just used the down arrow only to scroll through the ESV...

The down arrow scrolls one line at a time. The space bar would jump
a whole screen of text at a time (like Pg-down does now). You could just hit it once and read
for a while, then hit it again. With the down
arrow you need to keep hitting it (or hold it down) to scroll one line
at a time.Basically, the request is just to have the space bar do what Pg-down now does.
the space bar is better since:
1. Some netbook computers have small keyboards and require hitting a function key in addition to pg-down.
2.
It is at the bottom of all keyboards, which makes it
easier to hit than the Pg-down button which is sometimes near the top
of the keyboard. (Good when sitting back to just read)www.3rdcultureliving.com - Simple Abundant Legacy

Rob,
Ahhh...understood.
I'd also like that...it's easier than hitting a key..

As a funny side note, I have flipped my screen upside down several times a day with the scroll down as it is. The first time really freaked me out since I didn't know what I had done or how to fix it. (I also learned a new "feature" of windows.)
I have to hit Fn + down to scoll. My fingers aren't used to hitting Fn, so they go to Ctrl+Alt instead (force of habit). I learned that Ctrl+Alt+Down, flips your screen upside down (try doing that to your family sometime and see how they respond).

Rob,
I think that is a "feature" of your video card driver rather than of Windows. But it's funny none-the-less.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Melissa,
Can you suggest that being able to use the up-down area of the mousepad be included? I'm finding that all of the "hit" marks on the side of the scroll bar for frequently used resources are interfering with my ability to use my laptop mousepad area effectively.

Hello Ray,
That has already been requested, although I'm not sure whether we'll find a fix soon or not. Could you provide the make and model of your laptop, as well as the touchpad driver and its version?
We may also provide an option to turn off the 'hit' marks on the scroll bar in the future.
Thanks,
Melissa0
