Books Stuck in L4 Downloaded Directory

Greetings.

I have run into a new issue while trying to load / transfer a new set of books from Logos 3 (L3) to Logos 4 (L4).

I purchased the Baker Digital Reference Library (BDRL) quite a while ago (at the end of last year) and when I received it I found that you had to install Logos 2 (L2) and then transfer the books to L3.  I never got around to it and forgot about it.

Well, I just installed L4 over the past few days and figured that I would tackle installing the BDRL as well (I guess that I like pain!).  So I installed L2 and got the books installed, transferred the books over to L3, synchronized everything, and then started up L4 and ran an UPDATE RESOURCES command.  Well, the command seemed to be working.  It downloaded 20 books into the Logos4/Data/<weird directory name>/ResourceManager/Downloaded directory.  It then stated that it needed to be restarted in order to complete the transfer.  So I shut down L4 and then restarted it, but nothing else seems to be happening. The books are sitting in the Downloaded directory and refuse to budge.

I have restarted L4 about a dozen times.  Have issued various commands (UPDATE NOW, UPDATE RESOURCES, SYNC NOW, SCAN, etc), but nothing seems to be working.  I am running a REBUILD INDEX as I type.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.

You've had a couple of unusual problems getting older resources into Logos 4.

At this point I'd suggest directly copying the resource files into your Logos 4 Resources folder, closing and reopening Logos and seeing if they show up in your Library. If they do you'll need to do a Rebuild Index to get them to be searchable.

    Thanks for the reply.

I copied two (2) books / files over to the L4 resources directory, but it didn't change a thing.

    Thanks for trying.

What are the file suffixes in \Downloaded folder ie. lsf/lsx? lbxlls?

Enable Diagnostic Logging and start L4. Hopefully the Indexer will also run. When it has finished upload Uploading Logs the logos4.log and logos4Indexer.log. If there are any logs in your \temp directory upload those!

You might try running http://www.logos.com/media/update/ResourceAutoUpdate.lbxupd to update the old Logos 2.0 dual *.lix & *.lsf files to the Libronix *.lbxlls files. Then restart Libronix so it discovers the newer files. After closing Libronix, then start Logos4 and have it scan the Libronix resource folder.

There are twenty (20) folders in the Downloaded directory.  The title for each folder has the structure "LLS_XX.XX.XX", where X is a number.  Each folder contains one (1) file / book.  Out of the twenty (20) files / books, nineteen of them have an extension of LBXLLS and one (1) of them has an extension of LOGOS4.

Please find the two (2) logs (Logos4.log and Logos4Indexer.log) attached.

There were no logs in the windows Temp directory, but I did see the following two (2) files that look like they are from Logos (which I promptly deleted):

    DownloadProgress-neqkirvk.ukb.db

    DownloadProgress-ur22aoqf.u2c.db

    6735.Logos4.log

    2438.Logos4Indexer.log

Thanks, but I already ran the ResourceAutoUpdate before I started the process of transferring them to L4.  All of the L3 files have LBXLLS extensions.

The Indexer log shows that it recognized the new resources you were trying to add (at least the few LLS numbers i checked were part of the Baker Digital Reference Library). The Log File seems to indicate that it is looking for  some specific version of those files. Can you look at the dates on a couple of the files in those download folders and tell us what the dates are?

LLS:22.0.2 = Illustrations for Biblical Preaching file name: ibp.lbxlls

    LLS:44.0.4 = Jehovah's Witness Literature file name: jwlit.lbxlls

The Indexer thinks everything is complete and does nothing with the books in \Downloaded, but you are still stuck in a loop! I don't have any of the books in the log but if you type LLS:40.30.3 into the Command box does it show you the title of the resource? Repeat this for the other LLS: names you see in the Indexer log. Which one is the logos4 file & is that recognised?  Are any of the files in \Downloaded also in your L4 \Resources folder? Are they from the Baker library which is in your L3 resource folder?

    ibp.lbxlls - 10/16/2009 3:55 AM

    jwlit.lbxlls - 10/16/2009 4:09 AM

The dates for those files in the L3 resources directory are as follows:

    ibp.lbxlls - 07/03/2007 11:38 AM

    jwlit.lbxlls - 08/04/2006 2:10 PM

Those are the dates the indexer is looking for. So it appears you have the latest version of those resources. (They match what I have for those two as well.)

I continue to be puzzled as you are. The Indexer log seems to indicate that it has located the files and is planning to incorporate them but apparently it never does, even though there are no errors reported in the log.

Dave may have another suggestion. At this point I don't.

No it can't find it, a search window with 0 results appears.

I get the same results for all of the searches.

LLS_42.110.32: EVDICTBT.logos4 (and it is not found when I search for it).

    No.

Yes, all of these files are from the  Baker Digital Reference Library (BDRL).

    George,

I am now facing the same problem.

    See thread "Bug. Perpetual indexing".

I was advised to delete my L3 files and allow L4 to download new copies.  This involved over 3000 resources. L4 found 2839 of them and placed them in the Downloaded directory, each in its own directory named as you describe!!

That's where they sit. They are unavailable in L4, although L4 has indexed several times (but that is another problem .... see my thread).

We seem to have a slightly different form of the Galaxie files download bug, but nothing is taken from L3. I'll create a wiki bug report.

NB. Beware that file dates are not the same as the internal version dates, which L4 uses for its comparison.

Yes, all of these files are from the  Baker Digital Reference Library (BDRL).

Let's see if we can break the cycle.

Delete the file J:\Logos4\Data\ur22aoqf.u2c\UpdateManager\Updates.db and restart L4.

OK.  I deleted the file as requested, but I still get the same results.  Logos downloads the files again (even though they already exist, but the new downloaded files / books get stuck in the Downloaded directory.

I have attached two sets of log files from this test.

The first set of log files (Logos4_1.log and Logos4Indexer_1.log) contain info for the first startup of L4 (after I had deleted the Updates.db file).  As stated, L4 downloaded all of the files again.  According to the log, it was finished downloaded at 06:57:25 and stated that I should restart.  I waited about another minute or two and then closed L4.  One thing that I noticed is that the Logos4Indexer process never shut down (even after it was done).  According to the logs, upon shutdown of L4 (at 06:59:10) the Logos4Indexer then tried to execute some commands.  It looks like it might have tried to complete the transfer process. The Logos4Indexer also deleted the ScannedResources folder (but I am not sure if this is normal or not).

The second set of log files  (Logos4_2.log and Logos4Indexer_2.log) contain info from the second startup of L4.

    1016.Logos4_1.log

    7215.Logos4Indexer_1.log

    3808.Logos4_2.log

    4571.Logos4Indexer_2.log

It would be normal if the Indexer is acting normal!

I have attached two sets of log files from this test.

Thanks George. We'll now leave it to the Logos developers.

I gave Logos support a call and they were able to fix it from their end.  They had to do something with the licenses from their end.

I also found two (2) other threads that have had similar issues to this that might help others in the future:

    http://community.logos.com/forums/p/17483/132070.aspx

    http://community.logos.com/forums/t/10662.aspx

Thanks to everyone for all of their help in trying to get this resolved.

    Have a blessed day.

    Glad you got it resolved.

So old resources that have not been 'maintained' through their life cycle (keeping them in an active Logos installation) might not unlock in Logos 4 and would require Logos Support to resolve the issue. That seems to be what I get from this and the other threads.

However, the Indexer should not download the resources and allow the program to loop the way that it has. That needs to be fixed.

However, the Indexer should not download the resources

I was surprised that it was some sort of a license problem after we saw that it downloaded the resources. I would have expected it to not download anything if the server didn't know he had a license for them. I suspect there's something more going on.

If this is a consistent issue with older resources I think Logos should provide a way around it. Some people are spending a lot of time for nothing trying to fix the issue or giving up.

According to the support engineer, he could see that I had the appropriate license for each of the books, but he still had to do something with the licenses for each book from his side.  I'm not sure what he did, but as soon as he did it, L4 was able to complete the process.

And I agree that the developers need to fix this, since it is a huge waste of time on everybody's part.
