    Hi Deborah,

Welcome to the forum.  I created a layout that I use for Inductive/Precept study.  I have the Highlighting panel open on the far left and the information panel on the far right (for looking up definitions, lexical information, etc.  The middle section between those two sides is divided down the middle with my bible open in the left pane, then two panes on the right side, one on top of the other.  I have the treasury of scripture knowledge open in the top one and a second copy of my Bible open in the bottom one.  I have my the main copy of my Bible linked to TSK with link set A and have my secondary copy set to "send links here" for looking up cross-references, etc.

    Hope that helps [:)]

    Ron

EDIT: Oh, I also have my inductive Bible set to "Bible Text Only" so that it doesn't display pericope headings.

Also, you can customize a highlighting palatte to include styles not included by default in Logos' highlighting tool. See: http://wiki.logos.com/Highlighting for more info.

How do you start setting things up? I don't know how to link things together and how did you show me the screen shot? T-you Deb

Linking items together is done from the panel menu (click picture of a book cover) and then select a link set for every resource you want to stay on the same Bible verse.

Posting pictures to the forum is done by clicking the paper clip icon in the edit box and then uploading a .png or .jpeg file. There are a number of ways to capture a screen-shot. See: http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot

Also, http://wiki.logos.com/Layouts might be helpful to you too.

    Hi Deborah,

Kevin showed you where the link settings are located.  Open up each of the five items, then arrange them on the screen the way you want by dragging the tabs around.  Once you have them arranged the way you want, you can click the panel menu for your main Bible and set it to link set A, then do the same for the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (link set A).  Then click the panel menu for your second Bible and click "Send Hyperlinks Here".  Once you are satisfied with how everything is set up, you can click on the layout menu in the upper-right corner, click on the name for the current snapshot (as shown below) and name it something like "Precept Study".  This will save the layout so that you can access it at any time through the layout menu.

Does that help?  If you need more specific instructions on anything, just ask. [:)]

Ron, I'm looking at your screenshot and was wondering if you manually highlighted or if you set up a rule to highlight similar things. I understand how to manually do this but I was noticing how you had Wind on the sea, storm on the sea, Calamity, and the sea highlighted and was just curious because if their is a rule that could make that automatic, I would love to know it.

    Hi Scott,

That was all manual highlighting done while going through Kay Arthur's book "Lord, teach me to study the Bible in 28 days".  AFAIK, there is no way to automatically highlight diverse but (potentially) similar/related concepts like that.

Well.. Hmmmff.  I watch videos, read, watch videos and read.  After spending all this money A YEAR AGO, I'm ready to call it quits.  I don't even know how to start opening up things so I can set my 5 fave things.  Any recommendations.  I just want to cry.  I spent an hour here, with no relief.  I could have been in God's word for an hour and I'm sure been more at ease.  ;)

    HELP!!!

    Hi Gloria

Sorry you are having so much trouble.

I suggest you start a separate thread (click on "Write a New Post" at the top of the forum) and outline some of the issues you are having. I am sure people will be able to help.

Also suggest you change your display name to not include your email address to avoid spam. Please see http://wiki.logos.com/Changing_Forum_Display_Name for details.

Well, you're asking for help, that's a good thing.

What is it exactly that you want to do? What are your "5 fave things?" (Did you check out the video called "Prioritized Resources?")

BTW, you may want to change your display name so spam bots don't get it. Look here for how to do it:

Gloria, don't call it quits! We'll be happy to help you get up and running. From your comment it sounds like you need to work on your library prioritizations. The place on the wiki that gives you detailed instructions is here http://wiki.logos.com/Library#Prioritizing

Let me give you the cliff notes though

    1. Click on the Library
    2. Click Prioritize
    3. Drag your top five Bibles from the Library list to the priority list like you see it in my list

    image

For prioritizing beyond your favorite Bibles consult http://wiki.logos.com/A_Sample_Prioritize_List for some suggestions.

(Did you check out the video called
    "Prioritized Resources?")

From your comment it sounds like you need to work on your library prioritizations.

Obviously we are all speculating barring more information from Gloria, but within the context of the thread, I'm guessing she wanted to set up a layout (which in the above example has 5 components) rather than wanting to prioritize resources.

Gloria, if I'm guessing correctly, you are saying you don't know how to open your favorite resources so that you can arrange them?  The easiest way is probably to click on the Library (step one in Kevin's screenshot), then find the book or Bible you want and click to open it.  Alternatively, if you know exactly what it is you want to open (for example, the NASB Bible), you can just type it in the command bar to the right of the Tools menu.  For the NASB Bible, you would type "Open NASB" without the quotes.

If we are misunderstanding what you are trying to do, please post clarification so that we can help you.

    In Christ,

    Ron

EDIT - If you confirm what you are trying to do, one of us can give you step-by-step and click-by-click directions to accomplish it.  I'm not as good at creating the incredibly helpful screenshots as Kevin and others, but I will do what I can to help.

After spending all this money A YEAR AGO

I just noticed this part of your post.  If you purchased the software a year ago, does that mean that you are using Logos/Libronix 3 instead of Logos 4?  If so, that might be part of your frustration since all these suggestions are for Logos 4.  I'm not familiar with version 3, so if that is what you are using, one of the veterans will have to help you out [:)]

    Hi Everyone:

Thanks for your kindness and encouragement.  I've changed my name so my e-mail doesn't show up, and I AM using Logos 4, and it's updated, as well.  (My husband for the past 3 years has had cancer/stem cell transplant, so that explains why in a year, I'm still confused)  Anyway, so thanks.

Ron, you are right.  I can prioritize.  I just don't know how to open up logos and set up a layout so that I, too, can always go to it when I'm preparing a lesson.  I teach precepts, and I've yet to use Logos to help me, so when I saw the suggestion about a layout, I wanted to try it, but I can't seem to open the 5 things I want and arrange them.

So, now do I start another thread or just wait for the instructions here.  I guess we'll see.

    Again, thanks.

    Gloria

    Gloria,

Ok, I think I have enough information to help you.

    1. Click Library and open all the books you want
    2. Click and drag the tab with the title of the book to the places you want; there will be a blue shadow where the window will end up.
      image
    3. Once you have a layout to your liking click Layout in the upper right hand side of the Logos window.
    4. Click the little pencil under the "now" snapshot; enter a name in the text box that appears. This saves your layout.
    5. Click on the list of Named layouts to open any layout you've saved
      image
    6. Your layout will remember the position of the books on your screen and the place in the each of the resources. If you've progressed in your study and want to save your new location right click on the name of the layout and select update to current snapshot.
      image

If you want Logos to open to where it was when you closed it last, navigate to the homepage by clicking the Home button, Click the customize button at bottom left side and uncheck "Open Hompage at startup." Logos will now open to where you left off. Click the Home button again to return to your current layout after you adjust this setting.

Gloria, If what I've written is confusing don't hesitate to ask questions. I would also be willing to make a short video to demonstrate these things for you if you'd like. Just let me know.

I'm using a freeware program called PicPick that works pretty well too. The installation is a bit annoying (you're always asked to install the ask dot com toolbar - and they make it look like it's required) and they are constantly updating the program. But it's easy to use, highly customizable has a small footprint and does everything I need. Look for it through your favorite search engine, or at a trusted download site like CNet.

    Changing Forum Display Name

For some reason, Logos had to manually change my name, once.  I did the step-by-step and it wouldn't take.  Maybe if you continue to have issues, contact customerservice@logos.com.

    Gloria,

I'm a newbie and like you I was quickly ready to throw in the towel using Logos 4. I spent a day watching all the tutorial videos. Still felt I had wasted a lot of money. Then I came across Mark Barnes videos http://www.4-14.org.uk/logos-bible-software-tutorial-videos/preparing-a-sermon-with-logos  I don't know if you have watched it yet, but it was really helpful to me. It's 4 videos about 15 minutes each. I've also found that daily checking out the forums also gives help with specific searches.

Good suggestion, Scott.  Just adding that those four video, plus many other quality "User-created videos" are listed and linked at the bottom of this Logos Video Page.  One stop shopping!

I'm still here.   Emergency led us to hopt. again, but I'm on the laptop, I dl'd logos 4 and followed your instructions, and it worked.  So, thanks so much for all your input.

Now, as I get ready to hit "post" I am hoping that my name shows up, rather than my e-mail address.

    Thanks
