Visual Filter working nicely

I tried out the visual filter. It works very nicely and for me much easier to get than the 3.0 version. Cool

I created a new filter, 3 items, used the interlinear to create one filter, named it, and created a new range of books to filter for the Gospels.

No crashes. Nice Yes

BUT... I closed the visual filter, but the markings do not go away. I closed all my Bible and reopened them, and the markups come back even though the Visual Fiter is closed.

Is that right? Shouldn't the visual filters go away when I close the window?

What ahppens when I create multiple filters. Will they all show up all the time unless I delete them?

That does not seem to make sense?

By clicking the 3 circles button next to the interlinear button you should see a list of all available visual filters for this resource. You can uncheck your filter to turn it off.

The Visual Filter is applied whether you happen to have the document open or not. The application of the filter is controlled by the "three lenses" button in the resource toolbar. This way you can make up various Visual Filter documents and turn them on/off whenever you want, without having to give them screen real-estate.

Ah, I see that now. Of course that was not there when I first tried it out, but now I see a new little check box is created every time a new filter/note is created.

It is cool now, but what happens when a person creates a dozen note files, and a half dozen visual filters. Would this get a bit cluttered with check boxes.

I still like the idea, but could there be a way to visually discern between Filters & Notes, & other items? A color difference maybe? A small icon next to the text?

I just noticed that if I open a second copy of a book and then try to turn off the visual filter it removes it from both books. It would be great if I could keep it open on one but off on the other.

Is there a way to "hide" a visual filter from showing up in the visual filter drop-down of a given resource? I can just imagine an unruly list of filters down the road. [:S]

....Seriously, I want a filter with colored background to mark my own sections/periods of the Bible. For instance, I could be reading any of the prophets and visually see them as they correspond to their related passages in Kings/Chronicles, etc. Aside from Bible periods/events I would like to use the filters for certain topics (this is where I could use searches but want the flexibility of the visual filter). I know this second usage is where things could get unruly.

I see your point Mitch. I've not really used visual filters - so I haven't had a chance to fall in love with them.

For me, they remain for the most part in the eye candy camp. Although even as I say that there are other areas where that's not exactly true.

Hi Tom,

I'd commend the "Active Reference" filter. When I'm searching BADG & have the active reference visual filter on, it's EASY to find any reference in the lexical entry to my verse. I don't know enough about the other visual filters (what's sympathetic highlighting, anyway?) for them to be more than eye candy for me, too, as yet.

I'm probably a complete idiot, but I'm trying to be honest about my ignorance to help build Logos 4 into a user-friendly program for not-so-advanced users.

So ... where is the assistance for morphology searching, such as you would use here for visual filters? In Logos 3 you had these simple check boxes to use to select morphology search criteria - where is all of that in v.4? It just seems like I'm presented with a blank box and I'm expected to know all the morphology codes myself?

Oh - I found another post saying that as soon as you type the @ sign it brings up the choices automatically, so that works nicely. But couldn't that be made slightly more self-explanatory? Instead of just the word "find" in that blank box, how about something like "type @ to find"

It is pretty hidden. I hope they have something planned other then word of mouth and the help file to make it known. changing the default text like you suggested is not a bad call in my book.
