I started with CTRL+Click and set it to work offline to change my update channel back to beta to cure the problem.

That would probably be 4.1 RC 2 which was released on 9/14. Your crash log indicated you were on 4.1 RC 1. The error in the log is fixed by RC 2.
Oh, and 4.1 RC 2 post is back. [:)]

It's probably offline until the official change from RC# to gold. But doubtless it's being worked on until that moment when the switch is flipped.
Actually, I think it was "catfood" until someone figured it out. Then they changed it.
