A couple of questions about layouts

I have a saved layout which has a notesfile with more than a screen full of notes in one panel and a copy of the ESV in another panel.

At the time of leaving this layout by switching to another, the notesfile shows the last note entered which means that the first note is not visible (this is in compact view) and there is no Inline RI display for the ESV.

In the layout I switch to - which also has an ESV - I turn on the Inline RI display.

When I switch back to the original layout:

The Inline RI display is now active
the Notesfile display has changed so that the first note is visible as opposed to how it was left with the bottom one visible

I think that both of these behaviours are incorrect. What do other people think?

Graham, I tried to reproduce your problem and found the following: I have a layout for reading books. I have notes file opened and after changing layout to some other and coming back it shows first entry in my notes file (as you describe). Also ESV Bible do not keep in-line RI. It keeps however the setting of the regular RI.

In terms of the RI, I wonder if my description was misleading - and your comments caused me to look at this more fully.

If I use the Interlinear in my second layout (as below) then when I switch back to the original layout the Interlinear is disabled.

If the Display option is used (as below) then this is maintained when I switch back to my original layout.

Is this consistent with what you see?

It appears that the state of the RI panel is preserved with the Layout, but the state of the inline RI display is not. Logos simply remembers whether the inline display was on or off the last time that option was applied to that resource. These should be made consistent, in my opinion. The inline display of Reverse Interlinear information was added as an afterthought. Originally L4 was designed with only the RI panel, but due to user outcry, they reinstated the inline RI from L3. But they probably forgot about this little piece.

The scroll position in a Notes file is not saved with the layout the way it is with resources; they are all indexed with offsets that you can link to directly. Notes files don't work that way. You can easily scroll back down to the bottom of the Notes file by right clicking anywhere in the scroll bar (except on the scroll slider) and selecting Bottom. I see this as not much different from the fact that in Word, if you've been working down at the bottom of a document and then save and close it, and reopen it, it opens back up to the top. You could request that Logos change this behavior and do something about recording how far down you were scrolled in a Notes file and save that with the Layout somehow. I wouldn't guess it would be a very high priority, but if lots of users vote for it on UserVoice, they might do it. However I'm guessing that it currently behaves as designed.

I tried to switch a few times between the layouts putting on or of the in-line RI and sometimes it keeps it for the next layout I open (which shouldn't be) and sometimes not (correct). On the other hand if I save layout with the in-line RI, then change the layout and come back to it, it looses the in-line RI. I did not find what is the reason for the inconsistency. If I find anything else, I will let you know. We might hear from somebody else also.

Thanks Rosie - makes sense and I agree they should be consistent. I think that the "consistent behaviour" should be the current behaviour of the RI panel.
