Creating Collections is a great way to limit your search when researching for your theological papers and articles.  With L3's system it was easier to create collections, say like of your journals and add them by clicking the "add" arrow really quickly.  However, with L4 you have to drag and drop EVERY SINGLE ONE!  Can you imagaine dragging the hundreds and hundreds of volumes of journals!  I tried to multi-select using CTRL like in normal windows application, but to no avail.  Is there a way to multi-select resources to put together collections within your library.  Or even better...can you please let my collections from L3 transfer to L4.  Why should we have to reorganize our libraries everytime you come out with a new version of logos?  Compatibility is a virtue Wink

Actually you have your understanding of 4.0 collections wrong as I did at first. Below is all that needs to happen to set up a journals collection. The items listed under "Resulting collection" are the items in your collection. The plus and minus sections are for items that are exceptions to your "start with string" so if you want to add an item that isn't returned by "type:Journal" you would drag it to "plus these resources".

Wow! Visually, it looks great. However, I'm stunned at the work involved in having to drag 'n drop each individual book into the plus & minus categories. For example, I don't use (& don't want to have to look at) the OT Daily Study Bible commetaries, though I frequently use Barclay's material.

Other than individually moving one to the minus area, scrolling laboriously back down to the new beginning OT DSB commentary, then moving another, & repeating the process, how can I either:

    a) select & move multiple volumes? or
    b) NOT have to scroll back down again after moving one?

    ...and preferably both a & b?

    Thanks!

The only way is to not move anything :(

This has been commented on a few times hopefully it will be fixed

    a) select & move multiple volumes?
    .

If you want to get rid of all the OT Daily Study Bible commentaries, you can use the ANDNOT operator in the "Start with resources matching" box. I don't have these but you could write ANDNOT title:"Old Testament Daily Study Bible" (or whatever common phrase they share in their titles and it will eliminate these from the collection.

here is the way to do it. It's specific to each situation but the basic principle is the same:

    type:journal

(this should find all resources tagged with the type "journal" which narrows the list down to whatever journals you have)

Next you can either exclude or include based on some other factor; title or whatever. I find title works best....so your limiting string would be:

(this is what I used to find only bible and spade)

    type:journal title:spade

So only resources of journal type with spade in the title were returned. IF something else was returned, then it was probably a result of mistagging.

I have tried to set up a collection for journals and have been unsucessful.  It doesn't appear to be as important as in v3 but I can see some situations where I might want to search a particular collection.  Maybe journals or Lucado, jeremiah, etc. Anyway, I typed in journal and got some resources that I do not want.  I tried dragging to "minus these resources".  This title then appeared up above the list of journals and was still in the "journal" list.  Is there a way to update the collection after we remove a title?  Also, i am assuming that our collections from v3 did not come over with bea 4.

thanks.  I tried this and had several books show up ionthe list.  I tried dragging to the "minus" section but they stayed in the list.  Once we drag them to "minus", is there another step?

Stephan, could you provide a screen shot that shows a book in both the "minus" section and in the collection? They should disappear from the collection immediately after adding them to the "minus" section.

Darren, sorry I do not know how to show you a screen shot.

Darren, sorry I do not know how to show you a screen shot.

You may use the PrntScrn button on your keyboard, open start->programs->accessories->paint and then use Ctrl+V (paste), save that file and attach it to one of your posts here.

An easy to use software that does this can be downloaded for free at http://www.jingproject.com/

George, I finally got the minus to work.  I was dropping on the word "minus" and it did not work.  When I dropped below that in the open part of the box, it worked!  Now a request:  When I set up journal, it picked up quite a few books that were not journals.  After I dragged one to the minus box, I was returned to the beginning of my journal list.  My list is 600 plus resources so it would be nice to remain in place after moving something to the minus box.  Having to start over and find my place is very time consuming.  Is this a possibility?

    thanks for your help.
