Home Page Issues

1. On my netbook - 10.1" screen. I never get any images. This is the highlight of the new home page. Without images, I can't be bothered scrolling to see the rest.

2. Titles ought not be hyphenated. Very messy looking

3. I like the new smaller font for the book references. I would like to see a small lead-in before this reference. I would like to see this information for those sections subtitled "Excerpts" and with a "More >>" tag.

4. Some attention needs to be given to the way in which excerpts are compiled. I have said it before, I'll say it again, excerpts which refer to particular passages or verses need to name this... use ellipses and square brackets.... "[...In Rev 1.5....]" Too many of the excerpts are incomprehensible without this information. Rather than causing me to click on them, I skip over them.

5. We need the ability to report typos.

6. We need to be able to prioritise the devotionals which appear on these pages - I really want to prioritise OUT "More Light on the Path". It does not work on the home page, yet it always appears on the very first page....

7. We were promised more exciting features for the top ribbon. Are they coming? I would like to get rid of absolutely everything on this ribbon and have a bit more screen real estate dedicated to the home page proper.

8. I end up with massive blank spots because of whatever algorithm is used to deal with paragraphs. The big holes in the home page make it look 'broken.'

When I had my beta machine at 1024x768, I never got the images. I have decided that to up the resolution to 1200 x 1024 (I think it is) and now get the pictures. In addition, I had much more white space with the lower resolution - I think it had a hard time fitting more in, so it just left it blank for the rest of the page.

The presence of hotlinks on the home page makes the above suggestion moot. It was, in fact, my original suggestion. It's fantastic to see it there.

I'm in agreement here. I have a feeling that while Excerpts is probably a good idea, getting them to provide enough information about where they come from and what they're talking about isn't going to be easy for whatever poor soul has to enter all these.

As for the odd spacing, I sometimes see the same thing on a 22" wide screen. Just plain weird.

Thomas, I'm sympathetic too.

But, there is a flaw in the design process. The person compiling the excerpts needs to know to include between brackets and with ellipses the information necessary to understand the excerpt. This is stock standard publishing practice for providing quotes or excerpts. It is a glaring deficiency in a program used by people who are used to reading.

I agree with your point Damian.

I don't notice much on the home page anymore since I generally only offer the briefest glance at it before going to work anymore.

The key reasons I don't pay attention to the home page:

Normally (so far) when I open L4 I know what I'm going to do so I go do it. I don't take time to read the home page.
The appearance of the home page is still a bit busy. I don't read newspapers - can't stand the format for some reason - so this one is just me probably. But I find it difficult to read broken columns that flow in weird ways.
