Feature Request: Drop-down of like resources

I would love if I'm in:

  1. A Bible resource, that I could - from within that window pane - select from a different Bible (maybe create a collection and have it prioritized).
  2. A Commentary resource, that I could - from that window pane - select from a different commentary.
  3. A Dictionary, etc.
  4. Images.
  5. Etc., etc.

Sure, I could toggle through via my arrow keys but sometimes I want to choose a specific resource and a drop-down from within the given resource would really improve my workflow.

Whose with me?

Mitch, if you're asking for a return to the functionality of parallel resources as in v3, I'm with you.

    Damian,

I like that v4 B8 now uses the ALT+arrow left/right allows us to toggle among parallel resources (like it did in v.3). What I would love (hey Logos....I know you're listening) is to use a drop down with the parallel resources to go right to the exact resource...rather than toggle resource by resource before getting to our desired resource.

Exactly! You scared me with your editing touch-up for a second....I thought I was completely blind to the fact that Logos added it in to v.4!

Too much time on my hands.

I did these yesterday for my mega wishlist

Count me in! I miss the ease of the parallel resource ability we had in L3.

I was figuring this ability must already be there, but I just hadn't figured out how to do it yet.

Please count me in with requesting this feature.

(Especially, on slow netbooks which take a while to load each resource, scrolling by right/left clicking isn't a workable solution.)

+1.  I really, really missed the Parallel Resource Associations in V3. To add on your list I would like to have multiple categories for each of your first 3 items:

    1. Bible (English, Greek, Hebrew, Chinese)
    2. Commentary (Language, Pastoral, Lay People, Study Bible)
    3. Dictionary (Bible, Theology, Illustrations, Archeology, etc)

I agree with this... right now if I understand it right, in order to see all the associated resources you must open a  new tab and wait on the list to populate.

The 3.0 drop down allowed to go to a selected PR just by clicking.  Much easier in my opinion.

I've found that the "add new tab" button (the + sign next to the last tab) is context-sensitive, and seems to display a list of resources (book covers) of similar kind to the currently selected tab.

If your currently selected resource is a Bible, the + button will give you a list of parallel resources. (It actually uses the term "parallel resources" while it's searching for them.)

There seems to be some intelligence (or mystery, depending on your point of view) built in... a Bible begets a list of other translations; a commentary begets a list of other commentaries; a "Be" commentary gives you a list of other "Be"s; a book of images gives you a list of other collections of Bible images... pretty neat.

This might be L4's replacement to the "parallel resource" feature from L3.  Thoughts?

Sorry guys, I like the new one better. Clicking the plus sign and it gives a list of commentaries, Bibles based on what you are using... The one that I have prioritized is at the top of the list. Other than that, I would proably create a layout with favourite NT commentries, Popular commentries etc., and load that.

What I do miss is not being able to type the file name in the command bar and pull up any resurce. I could type in Logos 3 "iv_vol6" this would open up vol 6 of the Seventh-day Adventist Bible commentary. I had started memorizing those that I use a lot, too many to make Now logos 4 performs a search in the Library to see it there is a book by that name. If this is possible someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Lynden,

    They are different.

No one here is asking for a choice of one or the other.

No one is asking for the New Tab functionality to be abolished (well - I'd like to get rid of the left side).

    Lynden,

It is very different.  I have close to 1000 commentaries, going by the new way is not workable. in L3 I divided them into a few sub-Categories  as taught by Morris on his DVD.

    • Language - eg. WBC, NIC, NIGNT, UBS, etc
    • Pastor - eg. Annotated Bible, MacArthur, Pulpit, Bible Speaks, Boice, College, Crossway, MacLeren, NAC, etc.
    • Lay Peopl - eg. Matthew Henry, etc.
    • Study Bible - NLT, MacArthur, etc

I just need to open one resource for each Categories on my workspace, with a simple ONE right/left arrow keystroke, I can consult Commentaries in the various categories. I wish to be able to do the same thing in L4, even if Logos decide the common sense sub-categories for me (so that they do not have CSR issue that Bob mentioned), but, I need multiple categories for each type of Resources.  Bible (English, Greek, Hebrew, Chinese), Dictionaries, etc.

Have you tried using Parallel Resource Association for L3? If you have you will feel how some of us really missed Parallel Resource Association. I have taught a few dozen people all with more that Scholar's Gold and setup all their Parallel Associations; I just do not know how to explain to them, when L4 becomes available, why all of a sudden the one click key stroke to access the next available Resource in the same sub-Categories becomes unavailable.  At least now I know the L3 will still be available and they can stay that way.[:(]

Gotta learn new tricks, Lynden. Bob has made it quite clear that L4 will not give control or information at the file level!

So you need to assign Short Names** to your favourites. The system already has some defaults eg. TSK, NTSK, NAB, ESV, so just do it for ones that don't respond that way. And it shouldn't be necessary for every commentary in a set provided the series (serial) association will get you from one to another.

** go to Library, select Information and click on Short Title. If it has one you can click on the pen icon to change it.

So if you really love typing this in, you can still do it.  Just make this the short name in your Library and then you can type it in the command bar to open the book.
