HIghlighting a verse in one Bible version would be extended to all Bible versions

I'm sure this could be done, although programmatically I'm not sure of how much work it would entail. I can understand that different english bible versions, have different words and word count per verse. But I think that using the text comparison tool as a template/example; shows that the same methods used to dispay a verse accross all the selected bible versions. Can be used to highlight accross the selected bible versions.

This could be limited to Top bibles or bibles of same language etc. It will help in not having to highlight verses all over again when changing bible versions.

No, because I'm talking about actual highlighting (mark up) which is permanent and not temporal like sympathetic highlighting. If I mark up my ESV in certain verses, I would like for it to be marked up on the same verses in the NKJV, NASB etc.

I have created my own highlights that are specific to different sorts of things I look for in the text (e.x. repeated words or phrases, significant words or phrases, significant numbers, use of OT in NT, etc.). I think it would be great to have the option to extend this highlighting to - at the very least - my Top Bibles during my study. I do think, however, that this feature would need to be controllable.

Yes, the Message would be difficult. But (can't believe I'm offering this up) it's probably doable through the same "down to rev int, across in the Greek/Hebrew, back up to through the rev int" mechanism we use for sympathetic highlighting. (Just for texts with reverse interlinears.) So we'll give it some more thought...

Definitely something I'd want to have control over. I would not want sympathetic highlighting all the time. There would just need to be some way to decide whether or not a highlight would be sympathetic or not (checkbox in the highlighting window?).

Make the decision highlight-by-highlight rather than applying general rules

Might be relatively simple to please both camps by attaching the functionality to two different hotkey sequences: Ctrl+K keeps the existing functionality, while Ctrl+Alt+K (or whatever) applies highlighting to all versions or to certain versions determined by user preferences.

Anyway, glad to hear that it may be more feasible than I suggested in my comment on another thread (quoted by Rosie in this one)

I have a suggestion for how the UI might work for this.

It envision a tool that could be opened when this functionality is desired. It would look a lot like a regular book pane [I would understand if the Full-view RI was impossible for this type of tool], except at the top would be a version picker like in the parallels and harmonies resources. Once a version was picked here the text in the pane would behave like a normal book. To the right of that there would be a picker for the versions with RI tagging that the highlighting would extend to, default, of course, would be to all available RIs.

I would also suggest that when a highlight that was not extended to multiple version is right-clicked on in this tool the context menu have the option to extend the highlighting to other versions.

As the original poster, this is what I had in mind when I suggested being able to highlight across multiple bibles. If you think about it, the text comparison tool already does the underlying work, the text is just not highlighted or colored. But it is displaying by verse; the text across multiple bible versions. Of course translations that omit a verse, will not be highlighted.

Which works if you are highlighting verses. But what do you want to do with those elements that are highlighted when one asks to see differences?

Caveat: I dislike verses; I work at the sentence level. Therefore, a verse is not a standard level of highlighting for me.

I was not implying, that the text comparism tool be changed to include highlighting; but that the same underlying method used by the text comparism tool, to present the text across different bible versions. Could be used in accomplishing this highlighting request, in other words...it doesn't need to be built from the ground up, but leveraged from what is already being utilized in the text comparism tool.

Meaning it should be a relatively simple feature to implement, but after testing software for over 10 years I know that no new feature is really every easy to implement.

Would appreciate extending VIsual Filter capabilities - have option to check on/off for each resource - wonder if passage list could be integrated with VIsual Filter so could highlight corresponding passage lists ?

Potential programming challenge - original highlighting could be in different resources - wonder how to consolidate, change, or remove ? (or just look in open resources and resource settings for highlighting to propagate)

If choose red background in one resource for a verse and choose blue background for same verse in different resource and have 3 resources open that have verse - wonder what background should show in each resource ? red, blue, or purple (suspect should depend on resource settings for "sympathetic highlighting" from other resources - for example, resource with blue background should be blue when unchecked and purple when checked).

OK a new thing for me to gripe about. Maybe my workflow is totally different but I put bible notes and highlights on a text and I want them ALL to show up in every Bible I open and can't imagine why you wouldn't unless it is a translation specific kind of note.

I use a lot of Bible software and I don't think any of the other programs force you to only apply it to one translation. Some allow this, but the default is to be tied to the reference regardless of the translation you're using.

Notes can already be put in every translation if you chose to do so. Highlights are another matter.

"versification" is often arbitrary. A thought may be half of a verse or 1.5 verses. Why would you want to be limited to having an entire verse highlighted?
If someone is like me, they want to highlight words & phrases. Unless the highlight is tied to mss information, how would Logos know where to put the highlight?
Even if the highlight is tied to mss information, translations don't always use the same base text. What happens then?
You might want highlights across translations, but I don't. If it were an option, OK, but I would be very upset if it were defaulted that way.

No, sympathetic highlighting doesn't do this.

What it does allow is if you "highlight" a word or phrase in one translation (and in this context, highlighting simply means selecting a portion of text) then it is "highlighted" in another translation (assuming the translations have interlinear capability)
