Logos 4.2a Beta 5 ( v4.21.4.9488) available
Logos 4.2a Beta 5 ( v4.21.4.9488) is available for testing.
To upgrade to Beta 5 now, use the "Update Now" command if you’ve switched to the beta channel before, or the "Set Update Channel to Beta" command if you're on a stable version (such as 4.1 SR-4 or 4.2). To install Beta 5 from scratch, see the notes and download link at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8883.aspx.
The Bible and Library indexes will be rebuilt when 4.2a Beta 5 is run for the first time. For more information see the Release Notes: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4.2a_Beta_5.
Important: New and updated fonts will be installed with Beta 5. Since fonts are a system-wide resource in Windows, this update will require Windows Installer to run twice, the first time elevated. On Vista and Windows 7, you may see the usual UAC dialog, and on XP, standard users should see the Run As dialog. An Adminstrator password will be required for updates to standard user accounts.

Note: the Logos 4 icon will appear when the program becomes aware of an update, with a tooltip that will indicate the scheduled time of the download."

While I do not have bandwidth caps, others do. This is just another example of Logos listening to its customers. On behalf of all customers who have requested this feature, thanks Logos.

In "Tools/Program Settings" I do see any visible text announcing this new beta feature. How can one then "choose it"?
I realize that there is not yet any download available, but (on simply reading the note) to this beta feature it appears to be indicating there should be some form of "on-off" switch.
EDIT: All right, one must first check "Yes" to trigger this feature (but that does not appear to be ,mentioned in the notes).

I tried installing Prerequisites in a Win XP Pro Limited User account without success, using the credentials of my Admin account:
- the runas dialog returned "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" and another stating Logos was not able to finish the installation.
- executing runas from command line returned "5: access is denied" when trying to start the msi eg. runas /env /user:Dave Logos4prerequisites.msi
My Windows XP is installed to FAT32. So would it work for XP Home?
EDIT: same result with Win XP Home on NTFS!

No, development is still working on a fix for that, so that future resource updates don't cause the same problem as the interlinears did that generated this error.

Same error in Beta 6 in XP Home on NTFS.
Note: Setup tried to restart the Prerequisites download when I next logged on to the account and it removes the previous download. After I Cancelled I found no BITS job and nothing in HKCU/Runonce.

The problem you are experiencing seems to be more than just access to the BITS job, since the log file shows that the BITS job completed before the RunAs dialog was displayed. Also, line 820 in your log file suggests that the RunAs dialog failed to launch the elevated instance of Logos4Setup.exe.
On the XP install that I have, there are several users accounts available from the RunAs dialog, "Administrator" and a user on the machine who is an administrator. Elevation works for either one; I wonder if the user you are selecting does't actually have all the privileges required to run Logos4Setup.exe elevated, such as access to the paths in
\Documents and Settings\UserDave\ . Does it work if you specify a different user (i.e., either Administrator or a user who is part of the Administrators group)? If you had debug logging enabled, one logging entry which might contain a useful error code would be written. You could enable debug logging from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Logos4\Logging\logos4setup.exe registry key: set the SeverityDebug REG_DWORD value to 1. Since on XP, the logging registry keys are relative to the user selected in the Run As dialog, you will need to set that value for each of the users you might run with.
If you could try an experiment, we might learn something useful:
- Uninstall Logos 4 Prerequisites
- Run the install from download again in the same way that you did before
- When presented with the Run As dialog, cancel; at this point the Logos4Prerequisites.msi file will be downloaded to your hard disk and the configuration script will be configured for the elevated instance
- Open an Administrator Command Prompt (Right-click on the Command Prompt icon and Run As...)
- Change to the directory containing Logos4Setup.exe
- Run this command line (include the quotes): Logos4Setup.exe /elevated "D:\Documents and Settings\UserDave\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Install\Logos4WebScript.lbxdat" 1
- Find the logos4setup.log file resulting from the elevated instance (you can use dir /s logos4setup.log); it should be in a directory belonging to the user you selected from the Run As dialog for the Command Prompt, either in the "Local Settings\Temp" or "My Documents\Logos Log Files" directory
If it fails, the log file will hopefully contain clues about what's going wrong. If it doesn't, then it means that there's something wrong with Logos4Setup.exe's call to launch the elevated instance of itself with the Run As verb. I wonder also if there's something about your having your Documents and Settings folder on your
drive that might be causing trouble, either because it's been moved or due to permissions issues as a result of how it was moved. Thanks for your help,

I created UserDave as a Limited account on Win XP Home and there are two user Admin accounts, of which I selected the one that created UserDave. It has access to the folders quoted and can create & delete folders/files. Also has full access (via Admin group) to HKey_Users entries.

Setup first downloads the web script then the Prerequisites msi followed by the Runas dialog!

Well that's the problem, as I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device ....You may not have ... permissions....". I tried that whilst Prequisites was downloading and then, for the first time, I saw a Run dialog for Setup, clicked OK and then got the Runas dialog! Selected the Admin user and got the same error messages as before. Unfortunately I didn't save the log before trying something else, but found an entry for Setup in Runonce!
When I re-ran Setup I did not see the Run dialog, just Runas. Here's the log
