Synchronization of format choices

I set the resource font to 120% on my netbook. I need it on that machine. But then I found the setting carries over to my other computers, where I don't need it.

It would be good if we could set appearance specs for each machine.

I am still learning, pondering, and assimilating the new features and concepts of V.4, however the issue David mentions is a concern as I have experienced the sync feature. I, too use some different settings on my desktop as well as my laptops. I have been syncing documents in V.3, but it would be preferred if some (machine specific) settings were set apart. I don't really want to have to change them every time open or update the other machine. This kinda defeats the purpose of it "just working" - which is a great goal.

I am enjoying the challenge to think differently, learn and give help with the process of development. There are some really wonderful developments in this phase of the growth of this tool.

Thank you for your commitment to this tool and for the opportunity.

Please identify all the settings you DON'T want synced.

I'm a bit nervous about this, because it creates a "hold some of my calls" problem -- if it brings over all your settings except 4, how are you to know that settings are coming over? Or will people think it's "half broken" and call support? What if they have two desktops with identical monitors and get upset that font size isn't syncing? I don't really want to have to offer "Synch this?" options for every setting... But I do see how Program Scaling and Default Font Size could be obvious enough to leave at machine level... (maybe we move them into a "Machine specific" group in the Settings panel?)

Why not have all settings sync by default, and then allow users to check boxes in the Settings menu to "unchecK' items not to sync? For me, I would use the same settings on all machines, so it seems like broad categories of "Font Size" & "Layouts"would be simplest.

I completely understand this nervousness, especially about the cost of support calls.

To give a quick response (hopefully followed later with a response that has greater consideration. I want to let some things sink in and ponder them a bit. I know that I will need to make adjustments in my thinking and I want to give the most important thoughts)...

    Sync less desired

Program Scaling, resource specific font sizes/scaling/font-type, a default/startup layout (other layouts would be great)

Items to add to syncing (not familiar enough so some of these may already sync)

    Index, prioritize list, collections

    Bob,

why can't we possibly have control over which items are synced (maybe not all but some items)? As an iphone user, you would be used to this level of comtrol. I use it on my ipod, my creative zen w, and my creative mp3 player... It is a very basic feature of all programs which have sync elements to allow users to select/deselect certain items

lease identify all the settings you DON'T want synced.

I don't want all my layouts synced due to the different size of the screens. If I had to chose between all, some, or none. I would chose none.

Why not just provide the ability to categorize layouts? then you would be able to quickly see those layouts in Cat 1 which you could title laptop display, and Cat 2 which you could title Desktop display. It could still sync all of them and yet keep the ones you don't need cluttering up the list hidden.
