Jewish cycle of readings - basic
The attached file (as promised) presents the Jewish cycle of readings as I have gleaned them from various sources. It is not complete because I have only been able to find calendars not rules for generating the entries. I would appreciate any feedback and additional information that others can provide. I'll put the finishing touches on the Jewish feast and special day lectionary and on some Messianic Jewish readings and post them if there appears to be genuine interest in them.
The file is in Excel format but can be opened in Open Office as well. The columns are as follows:
1 year cycle:
column A - reading name
column B - Torah reading
columns C thru J - divisions in Torah readings (likely you'll hide)
column K - Haftarah reading (prophets) Askenazic tradition
columns L thru S - variations on Haftarah based on geography (likely you'll hide)
columns T thru Y - variations on maf & Haftarah based on date (likely you'll hide)
column Z - Psalm Shephardic tradition [I'd love to have the other traditions)
3 year cycle
columns AA/AM/AY Torah reading
columns AB-AI /AN-AU/AZ-BG divisions in Torah readings (likely you'll hide)
columns AJ/AV/BH Haftarah reading (prophets)
columns AK-AL/AW-AX/BI-BL variations on maf & haftara based on date (likely you'll hide)

PS. If some rabbi tells me I've completely misunderstood, I'll take it in good graces and thank him/her.

Thank you Brother Smith
I suspect that "Brother" Smith would prefer to be called Sister [;)] (Or MJ, or Martha.)
Thanks, MJ. I really have to take the time to get myself a modern word processor, so that I can open these things! AppleWorks just doesn't do it any more... It's a miracle that it works at all, 10 years or so (and 3 computers) since it was last supported. I had OpenOffice on the last computer, but never liked it and never used it, so I haven't gotten down to installing it on this one yet. I keep thinking that I must look into the options, but it never seems to be on the top of my list.

Please post them. There are quite a large variety of the Messianic Jewish readings. I do not believe that this is fixed. I have one or two different ones if you are interested.
The rules are quite complicated and is based on the Hebrew date for Simcha Torah! This is the 8th day of the feast of Succoth which normally happens around October. It is when the Torah scroll is turned back to Genesis 1. Here again there is some disagreement on the calenders being used (Hillel2, Sighted Moon, Conjunction Moon). The most common one is the Hillel2 calender. The sabbath after Simcha Torah will always start with the portion Beresheit.
Take special care of years where there is an Adar 2. These are years with a 13th month in the Hebrew calendar. Then the readings are different to support the 4 additional weeks.
Let me know if you need more information on this. Also note: there also exists a 3 and half year cycle to fit into the 7 year (sabbatical year) cycle. For more information on this refer to :

Has anyone made a PB that could be used as weekly reading plan to follow the annual Jewish Cycle of Readings? it would be great if it also included the Messianic readings as a supplement.
