NOTES: Hyperlinks to OTHER LOCATIONS
I would love - like in v. 3 - to be able to link to other locations within/without Logos. I loved linking to websites or to other books within my Logos library.
Is this a feature slated for post 4.0 or not even being discussed by Logos?
P.S. - Sorry if this is discussed before but I can't remember any such discussion after reading nearly every post on this Beta Forum.

good question, I have never been able to get hyperlinking to work in Notes. If it does nothing, I would highly recommend hiding it until its functional.
You can add hyperlinks to the notes if you create the hyperlink in Word and copy and past it in. On a hunch I tried this out with the passage guide notes as well and it works. This is GREAT because it means I can add Hyperlinks to the Commentary Notes section to resources other then commentaries that deal with the passage! I can see this being hugely beneficial and gives much more usefulness to saving guides. I would love if Logos simplified the process somehow, ether by having a Copy as hyperlink function in addition to the current 4 location copy functions or finalizing the Hyperlink box in notes. Just PLEASE make it available for the Guides as well!

I forgot to add...to go to the hyperlink, you pasted into notes, hold down the CTL key while you click the link.

In Notes/Clippings/Handouts, when the editing control has an associated formatting toolbar, you can add hyperlinks to URLs by highlighting the text you want to link and typing the fully-formed URL (e.g. "http://www.logos.com") in the hyperlink text box.
Additionally, in Notes documents, you can enter bible references (e.g. "John 1:1") in the box and it will create a link to reference you've entered. Clicking Bible reference links will open the reference in your preferred Bible.

ahhh...its the fully formatted part. That works for web addresses, but not for other locations within logos, correct?

Hi Cameron,
I had done a fully formatted hyperlink last night but the NOTES - while properly creating the hyperlink (when hovered turns from blue to orange).... which is clickable - DOES NOT work. I created a link to our church website (http://www.southfayettechurch.org/sermons) and the link did not work.
Thanks for your help,
Mitch

When editing the note, does the hyperlink box in the toolbar populate with the contents of the URL?
There is a bug where, for some links, the link only works if you're in the editing state and ctrl-click the link. Does that work for you?

I'm getting the same problem - the link doesn't appear to be "sticking" and so isn't working

Yes, that works only when in editing mode with the CTR+click.
P.S. - Can I link to another resource in Logos 4? If so, how? If not, is it something being discussed/planned? Thanks!

you can if you create the hyperlink in Word or another word processor and then copy and paste the link into L4. That's the only way I've found so far.

Philip,
Thanks for the Word tip...loved it in v. 3. I was hoping for a more "in house" (v. 4) means...not having to fire up v. 3.

Wow, I can't believe I have seen it and not SEEN it since B1! Boy, do I feel silly! It's like a Bible passage I've read MANY times yet never registered until today. [:$]

now if only they could replace the Wiki or HTML option and replace it with an actual Hyperlink copy!

Philip:
I don't understand your suggestion here: what do you mean by "an actual Hyperlink copy"? The URL option gives you a hyperlink, e.g. for Mark 4:9 in the ESV you get
libronixdls:jump|ref=bible.62.4.9|res=LLS:1.0.710

An actual hyperlink copy would be putting Mark 4:9 in the clip board, and when you click on it after pasting it somewhere you go to Mark 4:9. The reason this is needed is because, as far as I know, you cannot create a hyperlink in a Note to a non-bible resource without an outside program. Suppose I am at libronixdls:jump|pos=LLS-AOL:0<DIV61>.5948.0|res=LLS:gs_bsac_098, which is an article in BibSac, and I want to create a link in to it in a note file. The only way I have found to do this is to copy the location as url, go to word, type in the title I want to give the hyperlink, Add the address to the title (create hyperlink), copy the hyperlink, and paste it in the note file.
My suggestion would mean you press CTL+ALT+C where you want the hyperlink, go the the note, and press CTL+V to paste to receive the same result as above. I don't know about the technical difficulties in accomplishing this, but the only decision problem I can think of is what to put as the title/display text of the hyperlink. I would say the title of the book and page number so long as the display text can be edited afterwords without destroying the link.

Hi, you do know that you CAN link to passages/verses in a notes document right? And I believe it uses your preferred bible. Try this
While editing a note in a notes document type in Genesis 1:1[Enter]
Edit: Abbreviated passages/verses work too, try Jn 3:16[Enter]

I know about linking to passages. However you cannot link to something like Bibsac without an outside program in L4...or am I missing something?

What is Bibsac? I think you may be right, if it is a web site, then the only way to link it is http://www. formatting

What is Bibsac? I
Bibliotheca Sacra - the Dallas Seminary journals, available in Logos. :-)
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

sorry about that Bibsac = bibliotheca sacra, a journal in the Theological journals collection. It could be any non-biblical resource though. for instance is there an easy way to insert a hyperlink to a monograph type book into a note? It was good to find out about using the hyperlink box for websites, though. I wish I could paste a Logos resource URL into it. [;)]

Philip:
It's true that you can't (yet) do what you want, but i want to clarify what you can do in case there's any misunderstanding.
You can create a hyperlink within Logos to a Logos resource (not just Bible verses). For example,
- (in the command bar) Open Semeia 17: Gnomic Wisdom
- click on the resource icon on the upper left side of the panel and set Copy Location As to URL. (you don't have to do this every time, just initially)
- Press Ctrl-Alt-C: now the URL is on the clipboard (after i scrolled down to the article on PAROIMIAI IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN, the resulting URL looks like this: libronixdls:jump|pos=LLS-AOL:0<ART.5>.0.0|res=LLS:12.40.84)
But now the caveats:
- clippings and notes don't yet accept those libronix-style URLs, only http://-style URLs. I think this is a bug, and i've reported it. But when they fix the bug, then you should be able to create links in clippings and notes (without using Word or external programs), as described elsewhere in this thread.
- we don't yet provide URLs for all Logos resources (for example, one notable omission is Biblical People/Places/Things). But Bradley has said here that we plan to provide that capability in the future (and now he's on record [:)] )
So eventually the capability should exist, though it doesn't yet. I hope i'm not belaboring the point, but i feel strongly about making Logos resources addressable both inside and outside the produce, so i'm hoping this will all get straightened out.

(and now he's on record )
On the record as hedging my bets, being very non-commital, and saying, "this is still in the future and is subject to change without notice" (http://community.logos.com/forums/p/1960/15252.aspx#15252) [:)]
And if things get really bad, I do have editing permissions for these forums...

I figured youd get around to it eventually.i sure hope the dynamic elements of the program become linkable. that was a great l3 feature. is there going to be a way to create links like these inside passage guide notes?
