In creating a collection of my Journals, here are a few items of note.

Discipleship Journal (all volumes are missing)

Evangelical Review of Theology (Index and vol 1-24 are missing)

Semeia (not tagged as a Journal)

Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (no cover for volume 8)

Discipleship Journal (all volumes are missing)

Discipleship Journal is tagged as a Magazine instead of a Journal.  Which I think is correct (in spite of it's title).

Sorry I misunderstood.  I thought you were saying it was missing from your collection, not your computer.

    No problem.  A good clarification.

DJ did not download to my computer nor did Evangelical Review of Theology.  The only reason I noticed they were missing is because I was creating a collection and comparing it to my old collection in Mac 1.0.

Any word from Logos on why they are not downloading?

Joe, I take it you mean that its type is listed as "monograph" not "journal" -- as opposed to tag, right? I asked earlier about what I considered mis-types and my desire for more types and the basic answer was that it was left to us to "tag" them, but types were integral to the program.

    Bob said:

No, and we're not likely to add this, since the types have important
internal significance to the app. Things like "Grammar" should appear
in the subject fields; subject:grammar should work (or will, once we've
    cleaned up the metadata).

As a matter of fact, using tags was your responses to my query [:)]

Chri, you can also use the custom tags to create collections. . .

Hence my assumption you didn't mean tags.

correct, i meant "type" not "tag".  that was my error.

i did add my own tag with no problem.

However, i was reporting this as a potential error. not because i am unaware of how to use tags.

I knew you knew the difference. I was trying to be a bit "light."

I may not have been clear in my post a few weeks ago, but what I was trying to do was report an "error" as well. I feel that Nunn's A Short Syntax of NT Greek is a Grammar and should be given that Type. That's a potential error.

Also, I was trying to say that if half your library is the same type, then types don't provide enough clarity or differentialtion to be very useful. That's what got picked up on, it seems to me, and the "error" was overlooked.

I still think both are true. I'm not sure what can be done about either.

Since Logos has not replied, I must assume this report has no interest to them.

However, to anyone making collections and trusting Logos to get it right, don't count on it.

Evangelical Review of Theology vol 1-24 are "Typed" as Monographs.  Volumes 25-29 are Typed as Journals.

It seems like there is little interest in correcting these errors, so I suggest everyone add a Tag to these volumes so they can get added to any of your Collections.

For me, this casts doubt on the whole "automated" system of collections since I will still have to manually check every new resource.

I've remarked elsewhere on the Languages tag for Greek/Hebrew lexicons where all are English, one is German and one is Greek!! I'm sure they are fixing metadata as promised but also very busy preparing for the Nov 6 launch[:P]

Joe, they are both produced by 3rd party product publishers (WEA is one).

Like the Galaxie Journals I dont think they have ever been on Logos FTP site

    They are in my library..

    image

Discipleship journals also present, but have no covers

maybe you need to copy from original cd and then use the scan command

Hey! Cut us a break! <smile> We're trying to ship a product and find and fix bugs and still keep up with the 13,306 posts in the beta forum. It was only ~12 hours from your post to assuming we have no interest. And we shipped the disc to manufacturing during that time....

The capability of downloading updated metadata from our server to your system DID make it into release. There's a database with all the metadata for all 10,000 books in it, and it gets sent down to your system as necessary. We've got a poor, overworked programmer working diligently to create the user interface which will let us edit that metadata without having to hand-edit the SQL tables. We figured we had at least until the official release to fix the metadata.

(In reality, we'll probably be tweaking and fixing it for months.)

I do appreciate the feedback, and you should tell us when metadata is wrong and needs to be fixed -- we won't find it all on our own -- but it's going to take a few days to get the UI up and start the full reviewing process.

Some resources produced for third-parties may not be on the file server immediately, but we're working with the publishers, getting issues / rights / files worked out, etc.

Bob, I was wondering whether the metadata push system had been implemented. Question now answered. Has it been trialled with any resources?

Anyway, I've noticed other errors in excerpts and in resource metadata and I hate to keep filling the Beta forums with these issues. Will we have a dedicated subforum for the reporting of these problems? Is there a mechanism being planned to facilitate the reporting of these issues?

Excerpts go through a different process than books, and aren't available to the "Report Typo" feature. We're still figuring out a workflow for these typo reports, so for now I don't have an answer yet...

    Bob

I think I have been very positive throughout this process.  However, as you stated at the beginning of the beta process "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"  So after 12 hours I squeaked.

FYI, you are not the only busy people Bob.  I am working 3 jobs (full time church planter and 2 other jobs to pay bills and keep from losing my house).  In the midst of my 16 hour work days (which have been my reality for the past 6 months and will continue for the foreseeable future), I am trying to make reports to help improve the software before it gets released.  I want v4 to succeed and get good reviews.

You asked for users to blog about Logos 4.  I am one of them. Am I getting paid to blog for you?  No. But I am going to give you my time Bob because I appreciate you and Logos.   So if on this occasion I was a little bugged that no one took a minute to affirm the necessity of my post, I hope you can cut me a break as well :-)

All I needed Bob was a "yes" or "no" that you/Logos wanted reports on "Type" errors OR reports on missing resources OR reports on missing covers.  Since it is a yes, I will try and report them. If it was a no, then I wanted to know that so I did not waste my time posting stuff you did not need.  Bob, I don't need, or expect, a confirmation every time I post.  But since this is the first such report that I can recall, I did not want to waste my time posting reports that were not necessary.

    Chris,

As I recall the other thread, my impression back then was you were asking Logos to give us (the user) control over Type.  I was at the time suggesting that we did have some kind of control using tags.  Sorry if that came across as negative to your post, I was only myself realizing how to use the new features and thought it was great that we could essentially create our own way of grouping books with Tags.  My apologies if my occasionally terse replies give the impression of aggression.  It is not intended, but a byproduct of rushing through my replies.

    Dominic,

Some are on the new v4 Cloud and some are not. I did not import any books into my v4, so I have only worked with the books they posted on the Cloud.  So the reason I reported the missing volumes is because the Cloud gave me some books in the series, but not all the books.  This seemed like an oversight that I thought Logos might want to check into.  I hope that makes sense... sorry if it does not.

    Dave,

I can neither confirm or deny your suggestion of a Nov 6 launch.  Time will tell brother :-)

Joe, You have been very positive -- probably one of the most engaged and most positive.

    Chris,

    Joe,

Your response in the other thread was helpful to me at the time. I certainly didn't see it as negative. I wasn't aware of tags and you helped me to get into using them. I was asking for more Types and better typing of some resources. Tags are accomplishing most of what I was hoping for. If I understand Bob's responses, Types will become better over time.

I don't hear or read aggression in your posts. This time I sensed frustration and I understand that. I think Bob's <smile> was an attempt to defuse the bluntness of his response. You have been very gracious in this process, keep that perspective. I have not been offended by you at any time.

In this one, I was first trying to make sure whether you meant "type" or "tag" and then as I wrote the post and remembered the earlier one I realized it was just a typo, so then I was trying to be "funny" with your misuse of the term "tag" -- I'm sorry it didn't come across.

I have been frustrated at times, but you have often helped me with solutions and given me perspective on this whole process, and I'm thankful for that. Thanks for taking time from all you are doing to engage in these forums and with the beta work. The product will be better because of you and that will serve the Kingdom better.

    Blessings,

    Chris

Would you like errors/mistakes posted to the forums? It's probably too late for the DVD but you may be able to fix a few of the obvious ones before a download release.
