No indexing occurred after updating to 4.2a SR4 (v4.21.5.0955) on my system. I can't remember if the previous SR4 (the inadvertent release last week) triggered an index...

I do not remember a full index from that release, but that does not mean that it did not happen. This release did trigger an index cycle, but I'm not sure that it was the whole enchilada. It did not seem to take that long.

  • On one stable Logos 4.2a SR-4 (inadvertent) configuration, had used Rebuild Library Index command yesterday, due to not indexing new resources purchased yesterday.  After Logos 4.2a SR-4 (Official) installation today, indexer.log file showed Full index for Bible and Library.

Sounds like Your Mileage May Vary for indexing (depends on Logos 4 Mac configuration).

    From the release notes:

    [quote]

This fix will also detect indexes that could causes problems in the future and rebuild them automatically.

So, it will rebuild only if it finds particular problems in your current index.

Almost three weeks ago--March 24th to be exact--I supplied a Logos Tech Support Dept. representative a screenshot depicting how the Bible text window, when running the Mac version of Logos, displays text that is not nearly as crisp, visually, as the text portrayed within the adjoining "text comparison" panel of Logos for the Mac.  Your representative offered to share the screen shot with your development team, but I've heard nothing further on this issue involving fuzzy text.  I am running a late generation MacBook Pro with 4GB of memory.  Of note, when running Logos on a separate, inexpensive Windows 7 laptop, Logos for Windows Bible text is much clearer than the identical text viewed using Logos Bible for Mac.

Is a service release designed to rectify the fuzzy-font issue forthcoming soon?  As someone with age 50+ eyes this is a VERY substantial issue.  Thank you!

    Hi,

If you have been in contact with Tech Support about this issue then a direct call to them might be in order. The forums are essentially user places where we try to help each other out.

The problem you describe is not one that I am familiar with however if you would care to post a screen shot displaying the problem there are some quite knowledgeable people around who may be able to advise you.

Hi Mike: I did speak on the phone to Logos three weeks ago, and at their request, I sent them a file containing a screen capture of the fuzzy text issue.  Separately moments ago, I attempted to post such a screen capture here, directly on the forum, but the copy/paste functionality of this forum does not yield an image visually clear as the one sent via email to Logos customer support.  Thank you.

I am running Software 4.3 Beta 1 (4.30.0.0130) (Update Channel: beta) on a MacbookPro. I have a strong, fast internet connection. Yet for the last several updates I get hung up and lock at 12-13%.

I ran the update an hour ago and have been locked at 12% since the first 30 seconds.

Someone please give me step by step instructions to fix this so I can quite spending my ministry time on a computer and start actually doing some exegesis!

If you use the paper clip at the top of this note you should be able to attach the exact same file to your post.

Although it would not display as clearly with in the post - any of us double-clicking on the image should be able to restore it to its original size.

Don't forget that you do not have to send a shot of the whole of the screen - however a shot that included the display settings from the drop down menu of the 'fuzzy resource' might help a bit more.

Why not give it a go - we might just be able to solve your problem?

    Hi Robert

Running the Beta is only really for those who can spare the time to cope with the vagaries of Beta Software.

For productive work you might consider moving to the stable channel - I stopped following Beta's once I read the disclaimer that followed the release of the first stable version.

If you scroll to the bottom of posts in this forum you will find the Beta sub-forum where your problem has been the source of much discussion and I seem to remember a solution has been found.

Playing with the Beta is fun but it is not to be counted on when work is actually more important.

Mike, thank you for your help!  Here is the requested screen capture.  Of course, it is essential to open the full, original resolution image of below screen capture to fully appreciate this issue depicting a fuzzy (KJV Bible resources) window placed adjacent to a clear/crisp "text comparison" window containing text from KJV Bible.  The fuzzy text issue occurs irrespective of the font type (I've experimented using a variety of font types...the issue persists irrespective of type of font used).

A rather fascinating discovery: Using Logos for Mac, if I open the "about" screen of the KJV Bible, the text is crisp, NOT fuzzy.  So, the fuzzy text issue perhaps relates specifically to opening the TEXT of the Bible per se, as distinct from populating the main/large window with NON-Bible resources:

Forum Download Stuck and Notes are...Yuck (hey, it rhymes) discussion includes Beta to Stable along with Beta program risk restated.  Also, Logos 4.3 Beta 3 should be available next week with download improvement code.

Wiki has Update Error section with steps to manually download appropriate Logos 4 Mac installer and update.

Looking at picture, wonder if font anti-aliasing being done with scaled font size ?

Wiki Program Scaling has some workaround Mac zoom possibilities.

By the way, my computer desk looks bit strange since prefer to place computer screen tad closer to my nose than many people (10 % closer is one way to achieve 10% larger image: about 1 foot away).

Interesting: how do I go about determining the answer to above question?

    Hi again

I have opened my copy to your settings and with the Font set to 'Default' in Programme Settings and the text displays clearly.

What is the actual font in your picture? I will change to that and see if it is the same here.

I note that you have tried various other fonts with the same result. Looking at the screenshot my first reaction was to suggest you try a font that is not mono spaced.

I think DOUGLASF is using the unsupported, and buggy, but still allowed by Apple, Program Scaling on Mac at a resolution other than 100%.

See this wiki post for how to turn it back to 100% so that the display is not fuzzy. http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Program_Scaling

Looking at picture posted by DOUGLASF, noticed KJV 1900 resource font size slider was up one notch.  Text Comparison does not have font slider so display was crisp.

Did Tom's suggestion solve this user's months-old "fuzzy text" issue? As evident below, the answer clearly is YES.  Note to Bob Pritchett: how about awarding Tom a large bonus!

NOTE: the screen capture, even when viewing the full resolution image, does not portray fully the substantial improvement achieved by implementing Tom P.'s technical guidance.   Trust me: on my machine, by using Terminal mode to "turn back" scaling to 100%, the improvement in visual clarity is remarkable...not quite as crisp as MS Windows' method of rendering screen fonts perhaps, but still much better than beforehand!

Thankful Tom Philpot's guidance helped.  Also Thankful for posted screen images, added sentence to Program Scaling section: "Forum discussion has fuzzy text that became clear after setting 100 % zoom."
