Opinions On This Resource
International Bible Encyclopedia
This is on sale through the Logos Newswire email that all of you have received.
Is it worth the $100?
Keep in mind:
1) I am not seminary trained.
2) My book budget is pretty small. This would take a big hunk of it.
Would love to hear what you have to say...

Hi Jerry, I have it in another program and find it really helpful. I have no Biblical training whatsoever and find it a very easy read.
I won't say that I use it every day, not even every week but when I do use it, I consider it very valuable. If you use Bible dictionaries a lot, then I think it is a must have. If you only use them occasionally, like me, then it is still worth the money but I don't know if I would wipe out my budget for it.

I agree with Rick. The ISBE is a great resource for learning about places, customs, theological concepts, archeological information, ancient civilizations, and other background information for Bible study, plus it contains introductions to all the Bible books and has articles on Christian living and ethical questions and just about any Biblical topic you can think of. It might often contain all the information you need, and if not it will be a good starting place for subjects you are not familiar with.
If you do not have a multi-volume Bible dictionary already in Logos, this is the best and least expensive way to get one. Other than a good study Bible, a concordance, and Nave's Topical Bible, you need a good Bible Dictionary to do personal Bible study. Of course you have the first three in Logos 4, so adding this would complete the basic package.

I've used the ISBE for 15+ years and can't recommend it
highly enough. Even though I have it in paper, when I found it available in
Logos it was a no-brainer to re-purchase.The ISBE has been a rewarding part of my regular bible study
for many years. Here is how I use it: When I have a dictionary type question, I
will typically first consult the New Bible Dictionary (for brevity) and if
there is no article, not enough information, or a second opinion is needed, I
turn to the ISBE. It so often scratches where I itch. Many of the articles have a warm quality to them, not something
dry that is laborious to wade through.Glynn's Commentary and Reference Survey highly recommends the ISBE
for advanced laymen and "For Bible college or seminary students planning to go into full-time
ministry,". Source see page 205I think Mark's explanation is right on the mark.
The ISBE is useful in so many ways; it is a great bang for
the buck resource.0 -

Thanks for all the input. You have convinced me. I have to choose carefully when buying and make my budget last over the year. I am thankful that I have a book budget at all, I know some of you don't have that. But mine is not as large as some, either so I have to make sure I am going to use what I get.
So far, I have only regretted one purchase: The Preacher's Commentary Series. That one taught me to be more selective.
Thank you again!
