Ipad 1 or Ipad 2

For those who have both the Ipad 1 and ipad 2, Besides not having 3g, a camera, or the faster chip, is there anything else that the ipad 1 is missing?

Also, for those who use an Iphone and also an Ipad... besides more real estate, what does the Ipad really offer for the logos user's experience?

Not exactly what you are looking for but I have an Ipod Touch gen 4 and was contemplating an IPad. I was contemplating, my wallet, and the one who holds my wallet, were not :-). Once I realized that my primary purpose in getting it would be reading, and that exporting resources to the Kindle could be done efficiently and professionally with a little skill, I decided to go with the Kindle, which I could afford. I have not been sorry.

Not exactly what you are looking for but I have an Ipod Touch gen 4 and was contemplating an IPad. I was contemplating, my wallet, and the one who holds my wallet, were not :-). Once I realized that my primary purpose in getting it would be reading, and that exporting resources to the Kindle could be done efficiently and professionally with a little skill, I decided to go with the Kindle, which I could afford. I have not been sorry.

You would certainly want the IPad for those functions. I can be somewhat vain when it comes to gadgets. I would take the IPad 2 over the IPad 1 for only one reason, the cool cover you can get for it :-)

The thing that would have won me over is a retina display. However I'm glad it didn't have it. It saved me whining to my wife, I get the Kindle now, then when the IPad 3 comes out, I can whine again to my wife and eventually have both :-)

I have a Kindle, and iPad, and an iPad 2 (and an iPhone 4, FWIW). Since I develop iOS apps, it's important for me to have the latest products, and I enjoy getting a feel for them. The iPad versus the iPad 2 is an interesting question. Here are my thoughts:

the iPad 2 is faster both for processing and wifi network. This is noticeable to me, and I'm notoriously impatient with computers.
the iPad 2 with the Smart Cover is dramatically thinner. Most of the time, this is a Good Thing[tm]. However, I have noticed that at times when I'm reading on it holding it in front of me, it's a bit of a challenge to have it not slip, and it isn't as light as the Kindle, so I tend not to hold it up in front of my eyes like a book.
the iPad and iPad 2 are really useful for Logos study, writing (I'm using my iPad 2 right now), note taking, and more. I have been using my iPad/iPad 2 for 70-80% of my computer interactions for a while. And I'm a writer for a good portion of my professional world.

All of that said, I think that the iPad is a good deal now, the iPad 2 is a nice but non-essential upgrade, and the 3G (which is available on both the iPad and iPad 2) is convenient if you're going to be taking the iPad with you away from where there is wifi for you to use.

There is no comparison between an iPhone/iPod Touch and an iPad if you are writing or doing extensive study or web surfing. The iPad's screen real estate, keyboard, speed, and the native apps all make it a much more attractive environment for those things. I tend to use my iPhone as more of an augmentation and high-mobility adjunct to my iPad and MacBook Pro than a primary system since getting my iPad last year. Even more so with the iPad 2.

The iPad 2 has video mirroring => http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/ , which is useful for projecting anything on iPad 2 screen, including Logos.

The iPad 1 video projection was limited to certain applications.

Thank you Steve, yes this is very helpful. Since I too have had and used several different devices I am getting a fell for what kind of internet I need as well. When I first got the touch, we had few hotspots so I needed wifi and got the iphone. now, we have lots of hot spots, and may be getting county wide wifi, so 3g is not an issue. but having more space on the device to work and see is a big thing... In the past I was at the hospital 6 out of 7 days, but for the past year, I have only had about 75 or 80 days that I have been at the hospital. With an aging congregation, I know that I will soon be back nearly every day, but till then, what I have is fine... but with costs down right now, I am thinking that this is the time to buy...

But there is no difference in screen quality between iPad 1 and 2. For reading Logos books, iPad 1 does just as well. If you are in to watching movies (I am not) the picture is just as good in iPad 1. If you are in to watching live major league baseball in mlb.com (I am) iPad 1 is just as good.

But mainly I am into Logos, and iPad 1 runs Logos just fine. I cannot believe there is any difference.

iPad 2 has a slightly faster processor, but I have no problems running Logos with iPad 1. If you want the two cameras for facetalk, you need iPad 2. Otherwise, not.

In about a year, iPad 3 will be out with a better screen. That upgrade will be worthwhile for reading. (Not that the iPad 1 screen gives me any problem reading.) My advice is go with the cheaper iPad 1 for now, and wait for iPad 3 with the improved retina screen. That will be a worthwhile upgrade. For me, iPad 2 is not a worthwhile upgrade, and I went with the cheaper iPad 1. In fact, I bought a reconditioned iPad 1 from Apple, which has the same guarantee as a brand new one, and I saved even more money. I am loving it.

I can see how useful it will be, and in fact, if it were here now, I would be preparing for service and preaching tonight with it. but alas it is not here, so will reserve that for Maundy Thursday! I absolutely love my iPad 2. But if I had never had it I wouldn't miss it. The camera is nice for scanning docs in meetings. The thinness and speed is nice, but again wouldn't miss it if I hadn't experienced it. For me it was a dramatic chance since I went from 16GB wifi to 64gb3g white. However, if I hadn't been given one I would not likely have purchased. If you don't care about the camera, speed which is not that noticeable, and video editing video taken with the crappy camera and don't care about video out showing exactly what is on the screen, then save some coin and get the ipad 1 refurbished model if you can still find it. If you can afford the monthly fee the 3G is a big plus.

I have the new ipad 2 3G model. I made two trips to Portland to get the 32GB model, and both times, the apple store was out (along with many other stores). I finally found a model at our local Target store. It was the black cover scree and 64 GB, but at least they had one.

I love the 3G model. I'm grandfathered in under the "unlimited" data plan. This is most helpful when visiting hospitals and nursing homes making pastoral calls. Yes, you can download your logos books to the device, but having the 3G data is helping when not in the office. I even took it into the OR (they wrapped it in a plastic clear sterile bag) when the surgeon noticed I was wearing my clerical collar. My member on the table was in serious condition.

If you can afford the 3g model, go for it.

Thank you Pastor Todd... but is that your first or last name? I too am Pastor Todd, but that is my last name! LOL Any way, thank you. In the end, I ordered a 32 gig refurbished model wifi from Apple. However, When I was at the Apple store, having my wife's iphone serviced, another customer was getting a case for his newly purchased 32 gig wifi iPad 1 from Verizon. Upon leaving the Apple store we had to go next door to the verizon store. I saw a friend in the store, went in, and in talking with him, learned that this verizon store had a new 64 gig wifi model for $499 just $60 more than the 32 gig refurb that I had on order. I called Apple to stop the order but it already shipped, however, they issued a prepaid return label immediately. I bought the 64 gig unit at Verizon, and when the 32 gig unit came, put the return label on it, and off it went.

When I got back to the office, I set up the 64 gig ipad, putting logos on it immediately. The first thing that I noticed was that not only was the Logos app very helpful as it was before, but now I had all sorts of room on the screen. Hearing all of the thoughts about the IPad, I was expecting it to be a bigger iPhone... well that it is is, but this thing goes with me everywhere, and i use it in place of my desktop computer all of the time. I got it Friday, preached from it on Sunday, and used it in Bible class... this thing is amazing... and now with the new release, it is very near to perfect! My only regret is that I did not get it sooner!

Thank you Josh, no I did not get the mifi. In fact when I
asked about it, the salesman told me just to get the hotspot on my Iphone
enableled... so I went to ATT to find out about that, and quickly knew that I
would never in my life do that at the price that ATT wants. It would have been
cheaper after just few months to buy the mifi and go with verizon.
