Question about "Reading Revelation" (resource)

Hi... I am looking to "tool up" for a study on Revelation. I am curious if "Reading Revelation" (see link below) is indexed as a commentary and what view it advocates.
Anybody with the resource able to comment , even with your general impressions. Thanks

This series is one of my favorites. It works from a literary and structural basis. It leans towards a "how it means" rather than "what it means" which is my view of what an excellent commentary does.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Hi Mike,
There is a preview or "Look Inside" at Amazon here : http://www.amazon.com/Reading-Revelation-Theological-Commentary-Testament/dp/1573122890#reader_1573122890 I find these to be very helpful given the ability to search on the resource and to view the TOC.

It is indexed as a Bible, so it will track the verse you are looking at in your favorite Bile if you use a Link set. It is also indexed by Page.

The two books at the top of my list for Revelation are:
- Dennis Johnson's "The Triumph of the Lamb" (long overdue in Logos - ISBN 978-0875522005).
FWIW...

Long overdue in Logos are: David Chilton's commentary on Revelation titled "Days of Vengeance" and Arthur Ogden's "The Avenging of the Apostle's and Prophets." It doesn't matter what view you have, these two will make you change your view and make life MUCH easier for you; especially with all the fairy tales surrounding the book of Revelation now days.

For some reason I was thinking that in L4 there were some books by Ogden which came along for the ride, but I don't seem to find any. The possibility exists that it may be among those I hid, but I don't think they were.

Duh ! [:$] I was thinking that "trafton" was a unit of measurement or some such thing. I really CAN see, I simply didn't think of it as the name of the author.

of course, my original quote wasn't too extensive, either. I'll cut you some slack. I could have annotated it better.

Agreed: Beale's commentary is superb.
For something less technical (less dependent on knowing Greek), Michael Wilcox's commentary in the Bible Speaks Today series is a great introduction. (Pretty good price too: currently $99 for 22 volumes.)

I agree, the cover tells "something". If it is one possible "telling", I would acknowledge agreement. If it is another, I would hope to keep a large distance between myself and the teller...due to the collateral damage, splashback, and whatnot.

I downloaded the PDF by Chilton because I didn't have any major works promoting the postmillennial view and because PDF's are a little easier to read on the Ipad I recently obtained. I was especially interested in his use of the OT as an interpretative aid to the book of Revelation. Although I am a futurist I am open to learning new things.

I've never read Chilton before, but being Messianic, I was bemused at the surprise that Wenham (or anyone else, for that matter) seems to display (in the Introduction of Chilton's book) in his coming to the realization that the so-called NT actually ought to be interpreted in Light of the Tanakh. Is there any other way?
Shhh...don't answer that question--you might give yourself away.

It has long been my contention that unless one understands the OT (and the Jewish apocalyptic literature), he will never understand the Apocalypse. The problem is that many "interpreters" haven't a clue. That's why, although my field is OT, I have been working on a commentary on the Apocalypse.

Several years ago I thought of a "parable". The Bible from beginning to end can be taken as the story of your life. You are born in the Garden of Eden, you begin to learn right from wrong. The law is rules & regulations your Father gives you which hopefully you begin to internalize. You come under conviction of sin at the preaching of John the Baptist. You get saved in John 3. You are discipled by Jesus. Filled with the Spirit in Acts 2 and begin ministry in earnest. The Book of Revelation then is the receiving of your reward and entrance into eternal life. Therefore it is imperative that you remember your life lessons to properly understand how its all going to end.

Thanks Tom,
I had been looking for the Spanish version of Chilton's commentary on Revelation. I have read Giovanni's recommendation "The avenging of the apostle's and prophets" and I like the way the Old Testament is used to interpret the book just like Chilton does. Great works! I highly recommend them.

Unless you're using L3, it won't be of any use to you -- at least not yet.

Two questions:
1. Is the long link above an English language link? If not, do you have that link?
2. Assuming I download the file, where should I download it? I assume this the PBB file--is that correct?

Yes you assume correctly, Down Load it and unzip it to the PBB folder (Under My Docs, Libronix DLS, PBB)
At least that is where it is on my computer[:D]

¡Gracias Tom! But I thought the PBB file was for "Days of Vengeance" commentary. Anyway, it's ok, I have the PDF's for (I think) all of David Chilton's books, I just didn't have them in Spanish. Oh by the way, I have L4 but I still have L3 engine installed in my laptop to add sermons and books using both the sermon file add in and the PBB add in. Hopefully those two add ins will be available some time soon in L4. Even if we get those, I don't think I'll ever uninstall my L3 engine, it's still useful for other things. Anyway, thanks again!
Blessings!

I see according to the PBB of Paradise Restored that Chilton died in 1997 at 45 years of age. Sad to die so young.

That's interesting because I am pretty sure Greg Bahnsen was associated with this group. He also died at age 47 just a couple of years before Chilton. Bahnsen was an intellectual tour-de-force and master rhetorician.
