The increase in price is eye watering considering only one volume has been published, but at least it shows that Logos are confident that the quality of this first volume is so high that people will be willing to pay the increased price.

 I actually had the thought that maybe I would make it a point to read each volume cover-to-cover as I get it, instead of just using them for verse/chapter comments help as needed. I know my familiarity with the OT is lacking.

That is an excellent idea...That would be a pretty good and mildly leisurely pace at studying the whole Bible relatively in-depth.

Nope, I didn't miss the payment plan options, I just didn't drink the "Kool-aid", and I too have all your listed commentaries, and then some... What about the ICC that is something good not on your list?  I am not wired the same way some are, I won't finance someones business venture.  I hope the EEC turns out to be worthwhile.

I have the "then some"  [:D]  I'm happy you do too. I just hope you got a few of them at the "business venture prices" in the CP & Pre-Pub programs. I am not wired to pay retail. I am wired to get the best quality for the best price possible. The better the savings, the more money I free up for the next targeted acquisition.

I don't mind waiting on EEC because I believe it is a good thing to help bring to fruition. I view my purchase as an investment in the future not an immediate gratification exercise.  I have the ICC but not in Logos format yet. When the time is right (and the savings significant) I'll pick it up too.

We can look at it that we are buying shares of some really great project and this way we make it possible to happen. Enough reason for me to be in from the very beginning.

Anything you purchase is financing someone's business venture, whether you buy it pre-pub or pay full price later.

An advantage of the ECC is that it will always be at the forefront of Logos platform development as it will not be dependant on third party publishers agreement to put it on mobile devices, clouds or wherever Logos goes next. Added to the real possibility that this series may be updated in a way that printed works never are and that its tagging should be kept up to date it looks to me like a good future proofed investment.

Actually, this venture was something I wanted to help finance. Not from a business perspective (although it would probably prove to be a good investment financially -- over the long haul). Rather, from a Bible study perspective. Print books sales are way down and this project lost the original publisher because of that. Electronic book sales are way up, and Logos is one example of the success of electronic books as a format for Bible study. To get in on the ground floor by supporting such a change in platforms was something I saw as a privilege and opportunity to help shape the future.

In this case, I saw that for the project to move forward, it need some financial foundation and security. This new kind of pre-pub program, that put our money up front, ahead of the project, did require a bit of trust (risk) on our part. I wouldn't have done this with a company of lesser reputation than Logos. And while I'm not at all inclined toward Dallas Theological Seminary's dispensationalism, I do, in general, trust the scholarship that comes out of there. So I felt it was worth it to me and to other students of Scripture. So ,I put my money down ahead of the project.

I'm quite sure this sort of project isn't for everyone. It would be a mistake to insist that you are wrong, and I'm right or vice versa regarding our respective assessment of the risks here. It seems obvious to me that only those who are willing to take such a risk should. You weren't, I was. That's fine. Enough people did jump on this band wagon that the project moved forward. In my view that was a good thing. Time will tell.

So far, skimming the first volume that was just released, if the other volumes live up to this standard, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

From my decades of experience in Christian publishing, I was skeptical of Logos being able to come close to the schedule of a project of this magnitude.

Like Richard, the deciding factor for me was the confidence that I have in Logos as a company to deliver what it intends to produce. I would not have done this with a lesser company. I put off my decision until we had some sample pages to evaluate.

After seeing the amount I saved by acting early, I am even happier about my decision.

Kool-Aid is good when you are thirsty.

I think MJD drinks his share of Kool-Aid as evidenced by his possession of many different commentaries. It is just that he probably dislikes the flavor of the EEC.

Yep, that's the impression I got.  I compared the WBC to the EEC on Ezra 7:6-10.  Very similar in size and scope.  The difference is that the EEC is going to be more conservative than the WBC.  This will be quite a resource of conservative, evangelical scholarship.

review in its entirety, that is ok, but that is what you did.  No if's

God willing in six to eight years should I still be hear, I can make
an informed decision after the majority of the volumes are out, I too
may own the EEC.

You'll get an email when it's available to you. It's possible that they're still working their way through the list - possibly in the order that orders where received. Logos did say it would take them longer than normal to get through all the orders.

I wish and hope they will release the EEC in individual volumes.  Being the Pastor of a small church I just can't make the monetary commitment for  1 volume now, especially with 2 small children we are sending to Christian school. I wish i was further along in life where i could jump all over this, because I love the idea of these commentaries, with their evangelical, conservative approach.  ( I say all this not trying to sound like i am complaining about finances because the Lord has blessed my family beyond compare and beyond what we deserve!)

I would imagine if they would sell them individually as each commentary came out they would also make a substantial amount to help fund the project.  The one's  who purchased on pre-pub would in the long run receive the better deal, but those who just don't have the funds are still able to benefit from these quality resources. Just a thought and they may have already given the reason why this won't happen.   Just dreaming i guess!

It appears that you are having a very difficult time convincing yourself that you made the correct decision. Insulting those who made a different decision will not make it any easier to convince yourself that you were right. [:D]

I don't have mine yet either. I'm not worried just yet. This is probably the most complicated delivery they have ever done. With the big response and many different payment options it is logistically the same as 10 Pre-Pubs shipping at once. I may start worrying if other Pre-Pubs keep coming through after the fact.

When your copy is shipped it will automatically update in Logos 4 (-providing you close & open L4.)  You must update Libronix 3 resources using your "installing to previous versions" link on the order summary page.

You can be sure Logos has you slated to receive the EEC if it still shows on your order list (showing ship date 6/1) When it disappears from there you should have your delivery notice and order summary available.

"Entirety"?    Yes, you are correct. But it has no sting, especially when I know you bought every commentary you own without reviewing them in their "entirety." [;)]  I am happy to add the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary to my library because of it's conservative handling of the text. I have several commentaries that are more liberal in perspective so why not get some balance?

I'm still waiting on my first glass (So many people lined up for a drink, you know.) Opinions are good and should be shared. Informed opinions are even better.  I know the first comments are just beginning to trickle in but those who have their first volume are saying good things about it. 

If your Kool-Aid reference is to the marketing method in general (and not against the EEC specifically) I would like to confess I buy many Pre-Pubs and Community Pricing titles without reviewing them. That is why my library costs me a lot less than 'retail." (Great Men & Women of the Bible; others buy it for $199, me $9.) I can afford a few duds if I am saving up to 97%.

Buying something that we were unable to review in its entirety still doesn't mean we are "drinking the kool-aid" in the derogatory sense you are using the phrase.  It was an inflammatory and unnecessary comment..."no ifs ands or buts"..."truth" has nothing to do with it.

I have no problem with the fact that I bought something sight unseen...especially since if I received it and was disappointed, I could have "returned" it for a full refund.  However, having seen it, I certainly will not be returning it...and I'm very excited for the remainder of the series.
