General Question(s)

Hello,

I am new to Logos 4. I had Libronix on Windows for a few years, and used it sparingly, never fully tapping into its potential. I am about to start seminary and just purchased a Macbook Pro to accompany my journey.

Along with this purchase, I upgraded my Libronix system to Logos 4. I'm doing okay on the "nuts and bolts" of Logos 4 (i.e. navigation, etc.), but I could use some help on purchasing.

I have never purchased a resource from Logos.com, but would like to start bolstering my library. How does this process work? I assume that I put an item in my cart under the products tab, and then somehow, I receive a download link. Is this correct, or does it look differently than that?

This is my big question/issue for the moment, but any other helpful tips or suggestions for a new Logos 4 Mac user would be great. Thank you so much!

You should contact Logos over the phone. You may be eligible for an "academic discount."

Hmmm, good idea. What exactly would I receive an "academic discount" for? I'm not necessarily looking for an upgrade at this point, but just the purchasing of some individual resources. Would they still fall under that umbrella?

Many, but not all. I think this is at the publisher's discretion. It is my understanding, for example, that Zondervan titles are excluded. You will have to call to find out.

Just about everything except Zondervan gets an academic discount. The amount depends on which resource but you will save between 25% and 50% off the sale prices. It is a great program I use it all the time. Btw, which seminary are you attending? Some seminaries require Logos in which case you would get an even better deal.

Notes is still a work in progress on Logos 4 Mac; hence, several Mac users edit notes using Logos 4 PC then sync to Logos servers, then sync to Mac. Wiki page Mac and PC User Interface Differences => Feature Parity lists many Logos 4 feature discrepancies between Mac and PC.

At the moment, we consider the platform wars "tied" for all of these. Windows has more users than Mac, but Mac is behind and needs improvement, and it is gaining market share on the way to 50%. We consider it equally important to Windows, and already are at the point where some new work is Mac first, then ported to Windows.

Wiki has Logos 4 Beta Program information + risks (Beta versions get new features first, which also includes bugginess).

Once you make a purchase, the resources should automatically download the next time that you open Logos 4. To force an update, type "Update now" in the command box.

It is somewhat correct. I'd suggest you just try it: you may sort the products according to price and will find that a small number of them are free. Just put one of these in your cart and "buy" it. You will notice that after the checkout you will come to an information screen that basically asks you to restart Logos 4, thus it will automatically search for updated resources and start downoading and indexing them. It's really very easy. In addition to the on-screen info at checkout, you will receive an email notification with instructions - this is more useful if you ordered products in advance (via the Community Pricing or the Pre-Pub Specials - great ways to save).
