Not yet.  It is pretty basic right now, but really stable.  The developers do not have a timeline laid out, but have a list of planned features and both of those are on there.

I hope I got in in time!

Ahh...yes...I did get in on time.

And the other poster was right; it's stable, no FC's at all, no weirdness.

Someone mentioned the Galaxy Tab 7" — stay away from it. It has been
said a number of times that the screen aspect ratio on the Galaxy Tab is
not suited to reading and electronic books, it is too narrow. Anyway
Samsung are blatant IP thieves being sued by Apple, who knows how long
they will be to keep making their copycat products.

I happen to own the Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi and have no problem with the aspect ratio.  You can read books just fine on it.  I love the 7" form factor--pocketable and a one-handed reading experience.  At $350, the price was right and I was able to upgrade it to 32GB for a little more than $20.  I bought the keyboard dock for around $50.  Well made with a wonderful screen.  Highly recommended!

Wonder about Android forum creation ?

Also wonder about Logos performance on Android devices ? (possibly assist purchase decisions)

On the other hand I have a colleague who I work with each day who bought the 7" Galaxy Tab (because he didn't want to go the little extra for an iPad) and he regrets it each day, thinks it's junky plastic, put it in his back pocket and the thing fell out... on the stairs - ouch.

And then there's the fact that Samsung thinks it's such a winning form factor (???) that it appears they are moving away from it to being even more of an iPad copy cat and gone to a 10.1" screen size same form factor as the iPad.

That's the problem with all these fragmented Android OS iPad wannabes — companies like Samsung always chasing the true innovator and desperately trying to distinguish themselves from dozens of other wannabes. They'll come and go.

Anyway — we'll have to agree to disagree I guess [:)]

I do honestly hope though that all of you having some sort of Android tablet enjoy it, just don't try to say whatever Android tablet brand of the month is better than the iPad + iOS environment.

I am pretty much platform agnostic.  I have a Galaxy Pad, an iPod Touch 4G and a Blackberry.

I like the 7" form factor better than the 10"+ size for my EDC.  If you are looking for a couch potato device, the iPad is just fine.  Samsung is taking an interesting approach by offering 7", 8.9" and 10.1".  I like choices and the iOS platform only offers very big or very small.  As for your colleague, anyone that puts a device with a glass screen in his back pocket (even if it fits) is living dangerously.  As for build quality, the Samsung is exceptional.  (BTW, ironically, Samsung is the #1 supplier of components for iOS devices.)

Android isn't really an iOS clone .  It is a far more open architecture that is far more intricate and customizable.

Dan P. sent out a tweet yesterday giving Beta access to the first 50 people who replied.  I just happend to be one of the lucky ones.  It works great on both my Droid X2 and the transformer.  It seems really stable and I am sure it will not be long til the final release will be out.

I can feel my wallet getting ready for another hit.  (After all I still have to buy the android phone.)

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I just got the DroidX2 and have been really happy with it.  Tried the Charge and was not a huge fan.  If you can wait another month or so there are a few really nice android phones coming out on Verizon, but mine was on its last leg.  The X2 is not LTE, but if you are in a more rural area that wont bother you much.

The Asus transformer is really the next step in the evolution of tablets
and I would not be surprised if Apple takes the idea and does something
with it in the future like they have done with Androids notification
system being added to IOS 5.  That is the beauty of competition, it
causes all of the tech to get better in the long run.  I could not
imagine having a simple tablet (ipad or otherwise) after experiencing
the benefits of a tablet that also functions as a netbook.

Which is why the dubious habit of patenting interface "feel" is so dangerous, doing this stifles rather than supports innovation.

For instance how can you really patent one click ordering unless you have such a deep war chest that anyone who questions you will be bankrupted.?

I am platform 'familiar' over many years — Android phones, Galaxy Pad, BlackBerry, Windows, Linux, Sun Solaris, DOS, CP/M, OS X, iOS. But I spend my own money on, and use: OS X, Macs, iPhone, Pad.

Also what can one do in terms of integration with "Galaxy Pad, an iPod Touch 4G and a Blackberry" — what a headache.

Samsung is taking an interesting approach by offering 7", 8.9" and 10.1".

Samsung, being the unoriginal copy-cat that it is, is desperately trying to differentiate itself in a sea of other copy-cats and find something that will give it some sales opportunity.

Ahhh... the old misdirection line from Google "yes, believe us, we're really open". About as truthful as applying the line "don't be evil" to themselves. Google is not open, they are only (cough) 'open' when it suits them. Ask the various manufacturers & carriers trying to make and sell Android phones. Google has its own interests 100% at heart 100% of the time. That's not to say Apple, HP, RIM, Microsoft don't. But at least they aren't hypocritical like Google in this area.

It is an interesting device. I'm not sure if it could/would be characterised by all as "evolution", perhaps more by many as a "devolution". It is interesting that it is made by Asus, who got burnt with their netbooks by the iPad. Time will tell.

Anyway if one wanted a keyboard to use with the iPad one is available.

Integration?  Pretty easy.  It is called the cloud.

As for Android being "open", I am not so much talking about Open Source.  I am talking about the ability to save your work to an industry standard SD card (something that iOS can't do),  the ability to hook my Galaxy Pad to a Windows or Linux machine and transfer files without having to use proprietary software (iTunes) and the ability to get software from a variety of sources.  iOS is a closed architecture that is totally reliant upon the Apple ecosystem.

And Apple is an innovative company, but it borrows from what has come before (like all other technology companies do) and pays royalties.  And after all,  these IP lawsuits are about royalties.

Observation: searching iTunes for USB iPad finds several apps (some free) so iPad (and other iOS devices) for file transfer.  Apple's optional camera connection kit => http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A has SD Card Reader and USB adapters.  Also, Apple has approved several Wi-Fi apps for sharing stuff (e.g. selected contacts).  Coming this fall is iOS 5 (free upgrade) that removes need for iTunes to activate iOS device.

For Android users, recommend installing Anti-Virus.  Google has already remotely removed many malware apps on Android devices.

Anyway if one wanted a keyboard to use with the iPad one is available.

Apple's wireless keyboard works with iPad.  Asus Eee Pad transformer external keyboard includes battery so can be used over twice as long as iPad before batteries need charging.  Also, Asus Eee Pad transformer is # 2 in tablet sales => http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/13/asus-to-ship-300-000-eee-pad-transformers-in-june-surpass-all-n/  Apple's iPad 2 is # 1 (about 8,000,000 sold per month compared to 300,000 for Asus Eee Pad transformer).

I, too, like the Galaxy Tab 7" - mine is T-Mo 3G. I'm also fortunate enough to be in the Android beta . . . the app scales very well on the Tab screen and also on my Nexus S. At this time, it's only a reader . . . that is to say that the IOS features like word studies and passage guides are not yet available. I look forward to having these functions and am also hoping for home screen widget support.

I own one of the first generation iPad's and it's just not something that I'm comfortable carrying around with me. The 7" form factor fits well in a light jacket or vest pocket and the larger screen is much nicer to read than the one on the phone. That being said, however, I don't find that the larger screen of the iPad is the best for reading. My personal favorite is the Tab in portrait . . . guess I'm being a bit lazy, but it does save the eyes a bit of horizontal tracking . . . I set the books to 2 columns in Logos 4 for Mac also.

Thanks for keeping the discussion going. Our church was on a mission trip for the past week and I've finally gained internet access. And now it looks like I'm back on the fence. [:)] The Asus Transformer does look enticing, but I don't know how interested I would be in keeping up with the optional keyboard. If I'm doing something that requires much typing, I think I would just use my notebook computer.

The fact that Apple has so many more apps than Android is not that important to me. After all, I desire only a relatively few apps.

I recently purchased an Ipad2(and very pleased with my purchase) after being on the fence between the different tabs. For me it came down to what I wanted now compared to whats coming later. For me, I wanted the functionality now of the iOS logos app. I applaud logos for supporting android but I was not willing to wait for functionality which was now already available in the iOS app. This is a highly subjective debate, as there are plus and minus on both sides of the equation. This debate just ensures that there will be less stagnation due to the competition. let's just rejoice that in the end whether you choose apple or an android based product logos will have you covered.

I hope my question is not too subjective. First off, I'm planning to purchase a smartphone. It iPhone4 seems to be the best for me bc I'm already familiar w/the  iTouch. However, the iPad2 is calling my name. Do you recommend having both? Or do you think the iPhone would be sufficient for Logos? See what I mean about "subjective"! It's hard to make a decision. Thanks for your insights.

I would think that the iPad with the bigger screen would be better for study with logos. I don't have an iPhone so I'm not sure what it would be like on a smaller screen. Ther are others on the boards who do have iPhones who might chime in with more help. The iPhone of course would be more portable at the expense of screen real estate. While the iPad would be a little less portable but would be greater screen size. Realistically I would probably say both, but practically if you are in desperate need of a phone, I think need outweighs want. I really enjoy the iPad when I use it away from my office, especially nice to open up a book and be adding ahead on passages I'm studying and preparing for preaching. Now when the logos app gets highlighting and notes I'll be set!

Concur Apple makes good products.  Some iPad's now being used in commercial airlines => http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/05/27/alaska-airlines-pilots-using-ipads-instead-of-paper-flight-manuals-up-close-with-pilot-ipad-gear/

Observation: Apple offers refurbished 1st generation iPad's starting at $ 349 => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad  Android tablets less than $ 349 have 7" screen instead of 10" that are easier to hold (e.g. Nook Color) with touch screen area about 45 % smaller than an iPad.

By the way, Apple has priced 27" iMac competitively (high resolution 27" monitor is $ 849 or more) with refurbished models => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/imac including second fastest iMac => http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0JP0LL/A (1 TB drive) and http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0JP2LL/A (256 GB Solid State drive).

Apologies: reading about disappointing Android tablet sales by several manufacturers => http://www.businessinsider.com/android-tablet-manufacturers-shift-concentration-to-phones-2011-6  (surprised Asus not mentioned with Samsung in article).

Learning Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 does not have USB (nor micro SD) => http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tablets/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-10.htm  (starts at $ 499, same as Apple's iPad 2).  Looking at pictures, appears Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 copied many iPad 2 design features.

Reading rumors about iPad 3 with retina display => http://www.tomsguide.com/us/iPad-3-Retina-Display-High-Resolution-New-Screen,news-11532.html (know iOS 5 coming this fall, not know when for iPad 3).

Thanks for the web info! I think I'd better go for the iPhone &  wait for the iPad 3. A clerk told me this week that the iPad 2 had the retina display. No so!

I hope that was at Best Buy and not an Apple Store! The iPad 2 hardware can handle graphics better, however.

I was in an Apple store today (Oxmoor Mall, Louisville, KY) and took a close look at the iPad 2's. I hate to admit it, but neither I nor my son-in-law were very impressed with the fonts for reading books. Unless I have a change of mind, I will probably wait for the iPad 3's if they have the retina resolution.

I did see an iPod Touch 4 with the retina display, and its fonts were a great improvement over the iPad's. The fonts were really sharp and crisp in the book reader.

Retina display on ipad3 is only rumor.  Unless prices drop significantly on that kind of tech, they will be cost prohibitive on a device that large.  Plus if Samsung and apple don't settle their legal disputes amicably, Apple may have to look for a new company to make displays for their devices.  I wouldn't hold my breath for a retina display on a tablet anytime soon.  But it could happen.  IPS display is your best alternative currently.

I looked through the rest of this thread and didn't notice an update on this.  We are close to July.  Does anybody know if this has been resolved?

    Thank you in advance, Fred

Sorry, I thought I had quoted the conversation about Logos possible not being available through Apple and the thought that it would possibly be resolved by July.

    Thanks, Fred

    Fred -

Apple did back down on the rules. It looks like everything worked out for the best.
