Vyrso & Logos Readers (Android) - What's the Difference?

I have installed both Vyrso and Logos apps on my Android.  Vyrso is billed as a better way to read Logos materials, but I don't see any difference.  Does Vyrso contain additional features?

part of the benefit is cheaper and newer books, because they don't have the extensive tagging of usual Logos books--although you will be able to use them on Logos.  They will be for dedicated e-reading.  I haven't used the vyrso app really, because my wife has the ipod touch.  [:O]

Vryso is a stripped down version of the Logos reader (to present a simpler interface to the casual reader).  There is no reason to use Vryso if you also use the  Logos app (that I can see).  They both read the same books, and Logos has more features.  The one reason I can see having both is if you wanted to access two different Logos accounts on the same device (like if you and your spouse shared a tablet).

I also think Vyrso will make more sense when the 25,000+ trade books are available for purchase, and we can catch up on all of our Prelapsarian romance novels.  I know I'm behind!

Thanks, these comments are helpful. It wasn't clear to me whether the claims were that Vyrso is a  better reader than Logos, or better than other brand readers. I will probably uninstall Vyrso as an unnecessary duplication.

Laurie--wish I had the ipod for a quick comparison, but was wondering: is the interface for vyrso maybe a little cleaner (home page, etc) for quick reading launch?  Or, is it easier to purchase and download from vyrso--ie, getting vyrso books that may not be advertised on Logos, so that having the vyrso app will allow you quicker access.

I left both apps on Angie's ipod.  I'll have to check it out more closely, later.

    Good question!

Todd, thanks for your straight-forward explaination. I had seen earlier discussions that were too detailed and confusing but you hit the nail on the head, at least for me -- maybe I'm simpleminded....  [:O]

In any event, I've downloaded Vryso on my iPad to use for supplemnetal reading and I use the Logos app with dual/split screens for more detailed and simultaneous reading of resources....   [8-|]

Vyrso is a smaller application than Logos. The interface allows footnotes to be selected more easily, and without the distraction of accidentally bringing up a Word Study! - otherwise very similar to Logos for reading. It suits my wife's Galaxy Mini (lower resolution/smaller storage than my S model) very well.

thanks, Dave.  that was the kind of thing I was wondering about, but I couldn't compare.  I am keeping both on the ipod touch.  I just grabbed it to check if you could buy vyrso books straight off of it.  I guess you can't.  is that related to Apple's grab for more percentage off sales?

I'm not sure how you buy Vyrso books as I got it to read my Logos4 resources.

i didn't see anything pertaining to sales.  and clicking on "my account" took me to my logos account.  I thought there were specific vyrso books to be ordered separately from (but compatible with) logos.

There are "specific" vyrso books, but the site isn't done yet.  The only books currently available are the ones on the front page of the vyrso site: http://vyrso.com/
And it does use the same Logos account you currently use--the account info is shared between the Logos and Vyrso sites.

On the other topic, Logos can't sell books through their iOS apps without giving Apple 30%. So we won't be seeing in-app purchases for Logos or Vyrso.

I just purchased a first generation IPAD cheaply online for about $100 to only use logos while on the go. The Logos app will not open on the old IOS. Apparently, the app is only functional on later IOS versions. So, I downloaded Vryso and it works great on the older IOS...no problems and I have the same library access as on Logos.

Hi Ed - and welcome to the forums

Glad you got Vyrso working - just a couple of points to flag:

    1. I don't know how long new releases of Vyrso will run on the original platform. I doubt if it is a Logos design goal to explicitly maintain this compatibility
    2. while basic readings functions work some more of the tools - such as Passage Guide and Text Comparison - are not available within Vryso

I like to have both apps on my device. Vyrso  I use for reading monographs or books that I am reading cover to cover in a sequential manner, and Bible I use primarily for study and Bible reading. The benefit found in this is that the books on the 2 apps are separate, thus the layout do not move. For instance, at this moment I am studying Jonah on the Bible app and reading through the lessons of  "Jonah: A Prophet on the Run" on Vyrso without my layout changing on Bible.

It's worth noting that the original thread is over three years old so some of the comments and links may no longer be relevant.

I purchased a second first generation iPad last Christmas primarily for my Logos studies.  I have Logos, Vyrso, and Faithlife on them. I also leave different resources open on different tablets.  When I am really busy, I also employ the Logos and Vyrso apps on an Android tablet.

I have noticed for the past 9 months that sometimes these applications won't open on the older iPads if there are other applications still in memory.  Double clicking the button at the bottom of the screen (or on the side, if in landscape) allows one to delete these memory images and probably clean up space.  After double clicking, just press and hold one of the icons at the bottom until the red colored circle with the '-' appears.  Then press the '-' and the application will fully close.  This method is faster than rebooting and seems to always allow my Logos apps to start.

BTW: On other threads, it has been noted that resources downloaded for one application are NOT available on the others.  Vyrso, Logos, and Faithlife have their own sets of downloaded resources.
