NIV
Hi, I have Logos 3 and have also downloaded the free software for the iPhone - which is a great step forward by Logos. I feel a bit stupid writing this but I notice that in the section "Free access to many of the Bibles featured at Bible.Logos.com (Click for preview)" that the NIV is one of the Bibles listed as being available on the iPhone. I have downloaded the software but cannot find it. Am I missing something? If it is not there, are there plans to make this available soon?

Do you have an account with Logos.com? Do you see other Bibles? If yes, than it might be Logos is still trying to obtain the permission for NIV. I do not see it either, although I see many other Bibles.

Hi Bob,
Sorry, but the NIV is indeed one of the resources that we have not yet obtained permission to distributed to the iPhone. The list of resources available on the phone will likely be changing quite a bit in the near future as we work with publishers.

Okay thanks for that really quick response. Looking forward to seeing how the software evolves.

Is there a list somewhere that is being updated of what is useable on the iTouch?

http://www.logos.com/iphone/support now has 2 lists of books. The first is what you get access to as an anonymous user. If you sign in you also get the second list. If you own a Logos 4 package you will get some of the books in your collection, though I don't think we currently have a complete list of titles yet.

If you look closely at the book cover for the NIV on your "click for preview" it actually says, "Novum Testamentum Graece."

The preview images on the page were taken while the App was still in internal testing. At that time we hadn't filtered out any titles. We threw the "Product configuration in screenshots is illustrative" in the footer, but I'll put on my list to update the images in the near future. thanks for the reminder.

Any update on when to expect NIV access? I'm currently having to switch out of Logos to Laridian to use the NIV (my translation of choice in study and preaching).

Casey,
Are you sure you want to use the NIV? Just messing with you. I love the Logos app since I have access to so many of my Logos resources. I use the Logos app, Laridian's PocketBible, and also Olive Tree. What one app doesn't provide the other one does. The Logos app that I really want is the NA 27. Glad to see you on this forum!

The NA27 has the same text as the UBS4, which is already available: The Swanson New Testament Greek

Still would like to know when the NIV might be available.
Thanks

Can the NIV be used if someone owns a base package?
Nope [:(]

I would also like to hear an update about the status of the NIV. I would rather have access to this one through the cool logos app than alot of the other books that are already available.

The NIV bible is nearly the only reason I want the Logos software on my iPhone as I would use my desktop's software for most other purposes. Still no update on this? It has been over a year since this thread was started... =(

i will be waiting to see if the new 2011 version will be available across all platforms of Logos.

I don't understand something... why is it that numerous other web sites and iPhone/iPad apps are able to display the NIV (some of them free of charge), but for Logos it's been taking more than a year?
Especially now since Logos is Zondervan's electronic publishing platform, one would expect the two companies to have a relatively good working relationship?
Some of these other apps and web sites are from much smaller and much less known companies than Logos.
I really don't understand why it's taking Logos so long to get all their content on the web and app platforms. The reason/excuse that they're not getting the publishers' agreement is really getting old... A year plus is a looooong time!

Ditto. Lack of NIV in Australia and on iPhone means that I cant really recommend this product to Anglican church goers since NIV is the core bible for ministers and students.

yeah, it may be getting frustrating, but it also sounds a little cynical. i hardly imagine Logos is dragging their feet on this issue. They'd publish it if they could. Maybe it has to do with arrangements Z made with other purveyors of handheld software producers . . . idk.

I believe Logos is trying to get the rights for those of us that already have a license for the NIV to be able to have it on the iPhone/iPad without paying a licensing fee again. It was not in the original deal to be accessed in this format (iPhone) so they are working with the publisher to make this work without any extra money involved. I agree that it is a little annoying - I use the NIV more than anything else - but Logos is looking out for their customers and trying not to make them pay for something that they shouldn't have to... The only other (current) option is to pay again for the NIV, which has been discussed in another thread. There is also a quote from Bob Pritchett there about the situation being out of their control.

Accordance just released their iPad app. It too, supports the NIV (if you have licensed it for Accordance 8 or 9.)

Yes, but it's because of a different way of operations. Accordance is utilizing files we already own, Logos is needing because of design to have it on it's servers in a format accessible to it's reader. I am not sure what the engine redesign just completed will mean, but I believe we were told it would still not allow us to sync with our computers, I know I am more anxious than most about the syncing but then it's because i really want to be able to use my Daily Study Bible on phone and it will never happen unless syncing to the computer becomes possible. But then again even if happens there is no guarantee libronix files would be readable...but the same reader engine for iOS as the computer gives me hope.

Clarify what you mean by sync. The app does sync now. I opened a book on my desktop and then later opened it on my iPad and it was at the same location even though I had never opened it on the ipad previously.

No and if you went to the forum for it you would say there were technical issues and that it was going to be released soon. A lot of features promised us are not there. But they wanted to get 1.0 out before years end. It works well and is very fast but more than a bit disappointed that there is no functions like copy high-lite or the syncing.

Still no news in April of 2011? This is getting ridiculous. The NIV is my Bible of choice, and it's the one book I can't seem to get on my iPad. It's irritating.

Welcome to Logos forums [:D]
Odd: using http://Biblia.com can access NIV (1984), but not NIV 2011. Logos 1.7.0 on iOS cannot access any NIV version.
Appears NIV digital publishing plans worldwide have yet to be finalized => http://www.biblica.com/niv/ (page has links to global web sites to view NIV 2011 online).

Don't get upset with Logos, if it were up to them we would have had the NIV a year ago. This is all on Zondervan, and part of the reason I do not use the NIV. I do not like the way they pushed this translation on the public early on, they purchased shelf space at the front of all the Christian bookstores and guess what became the best selling translation? You got it, the NIV.

Thanks for the replies. I should have been more precise. What I'm after is the NIV translation in Logos, not some other software. I have too much other stuff to keep track of as it is. As to being "upset" at Logos, well, they're the vendor from whom I purchased the software. There may be other causes along the way, no doubt, but if others can procure the ability to distribute it then it seems to me like a failing on Logos' part if they can't do the same.

I was just trying to access NIV84 on my ipod as well, since it is my preferred version. I find it unfortunate and surprising that the Logos app doesn't have it available. Since NIV is such a popular version, this is driving customers to other applications which do offer it.

Welcome to the forums! Sorry you are disappointed in the lack of the NIV on mobile devices (so am I). I just want to reiterate that this is a Zondervan issue. It is the view of Logos that if you own a resource, you should be able to view it on as many devices as you own. Unfortunately, Zondervan does not feel the same way.
