Important Change to Synchronization coming in next Beta for Notes, custom Highlighting styles, Favor

Please Note: Important Change to Synchronization coming for Notes*, custom Highlighting styles*, Favorites, and some Preferences**
When 4.5 Beta 1 is released, Logos 4 will be using the new Sync v2 service to synchronize your Notes*, custom Highlighting styles*, Favorites, and some Preferences**. This is similar to the change to Sync v2 for Copy Bible Verses during the 4.3 Beta.
This change will affect those users who log in under the same account on two computers, where one is running the stable 4.3 version and the other is running the 4.5 Beta:
Changes made to the features above on the computer running 4.3 will not be synchronized to the computer running the 4.5 beta.
Changes made to these features on the computer running the 4.5 Beta, will not be synchronized to the 4.3 install.
All other data will continue to sync to the server normally.
When the stable version is updated to 4.5, modified items will be sent to the Sync v2 service and merged with your current data.
*IMPORTANT: The 4.5 Beta will include major improvements to how Notes and Highlighting are saved and how they reference custom styles. More information about this will be provided prior to release. Due to these improvements, and the Sync v2 changes, the usual warnings about participating in Logos 4 Beta testing are especially important to consider.
**Sync v2 for certain Preferences, such as SavedResourcePosition, will improve syncing of these values with mobile clients.

Greetings,
I haven't posted to the Logos Mac blog for a while simply because I'm busy and happy using the product. I'm running Logos 4.3. What's so wonderful is that Logos for Mac is so comprehensive that I never use the Windows version running Parallels anymore. That also means that my other Windows based Bible programs have gone into retirement. Soooo, why am I posting today?
I'm posting to ask if the Notes feature will soon gain the function of going to the verse reference automatically? Currently when highlighting a verse and then selecting the "add Note" function, it opens Notes, but brings me to the beginning of my notes, which is in Genesis. This is not particularly fun when you're in the middle of Luke. A while back, when Logos 4 was still in Beta, one of your colleagues said this function was coming. Any progress on this one?
Thanks,
Jeff Hands

Logos User Voice suggestion => Improve Logos 4 Mac Note Positioning now ranked 75h with 22 votes (after 5 weeks of voting) with no status from Logos (e.g. started, planned).
By the way, Logos 4 Mac Enhancements is now ranked 33rd with 75 votes while Improve Logos 4 Mac Feature Parity with PC is now ranked 48th with 44 votes (likewise with no status from Logos).
Keep Smiling [:)]

You will see a change in Notes, including the change you're asking about, in version 4.5, which may be available for beta testing in the next couple of weeks,

Wow, Melissa, thank you!
That's great news and I'm sure I won't be the only one happy about it!

Melissa - question for you re: Notes - why is it that if I create a Note while in NLT, when I open the ESV for the same passage - the note I created in NLT doesn't show in the ESV? I thought the Notes carried to all translations and even the Commentaries? Please clarify?
Thanks,
-Mike

Mike,
My guess is that you have turned the notes off in the visual filter for the ESV. Click on the "three intersecting circles" icon and make sure your notes file is check marked.

That's the thing - my Philppian Notes don't appear as an option to Check - I created other Notes i.e. Matthew, Colossians - they appear in the list to check or uncheck - why the most recent Notes on Philippians isn't in the list is a mystery. Any other thoughts?
Thanks for the quick reply.

Notes attached to a selection only show up in that Bible. You have to attach them to the reference if you want them to show up in all Bibles.

Dumb ? - How do I do that - Highlight the Verse # Only - not select the verse?

When you right click on a word, the following box will appear. On the right hand side you will see "Selection" and "Reference." The reason your note is not showing up in multiple translations is because you have the note on "selection" and not "reference."

How soon will 4.5 Beta be coming...its been awhile since this was posted!
From Logos 4.5 Beta warnings, anticipating major changes how Notes and Highlighting are saved, which is an extensive change considering Logos 4 has many places to Note stuff. For users with large Note files, hoping for better typing performance plus several improvements in Logos User Voice suggestion => Rework notes function - in one or multiple phases since Notes handling being modified. As use Personal Book Tool more, hoping for more Personal Book improvements too.
Doing data replication well is quite challenging to code (on servers and clients) along with adequate network and server capacity so synchronization just happens. Hence, Logos 4 and mobile apps may not appear much improved, other than stuff syncing quickly: hopefully including highlighting, notes, favorites, and some preferences along with reading plans. Perhaps to be followed by Personal Book sync (which would be miles ahead).
Personally willing to wait until Logos ready for public Beta testing (with more data volume and issues using revised synchronization framework); wondering if early Logos 4.3 Beta bugginess will repeat ?
Observation: if revised synchronization framework has issue(s), data replication can be full of surprises (and data corruption and/or loss). Having a stable Logos installation for Bible Study seems prudent (in case of beta burps). Personally looking forward to beta testing (and potential surprises).

I am hoping that this will hasten the process of adding highlighting and notes to the mobile apps.

Any news on how soon the next beta will be coming? It has been over two month since the last beta! Normally we have been getting a beta release every two weeks. Hopefully this will be coming soon, and with it an addition of Notes & Highlights to mobile devices.
I love Logos, and cannot wait for it to become even better!
In Christ,
Philana

I hope that the next Beta will be very soon. I share your enthusiasm. You should not be worried, however, at the time between the last beta and the present. The last beta was 4.3 but we are looking for 4.5, which is a separate release. During the time since the last beta, there have been 5 Service Releases for 4.3 - the developers are working hard! [:)]

Because this beta also includes changes to the synchronization process for Notes, and other user data, developers are taking the necessary time up front to assure a smooth transition from Sync v1 to Sync v2. They are making these changes, in part, to make this data available to mobile devices.

Appreciate update; praying for smooth transition plus understand lack of public beta testing during data replication (synchronization) development and improvements.

Seems praying for patience is answered by tribulation (so can experience more). Data replication has potential for awful data duplication or loss. Personally content to wait for Logos public beta (ideally with smooth sync transition).Keep Smiling [:)]
