PB: The Normal Christian Life, Watchman Nee
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This is my first contribution of the Logos Forum community. Hope that you guys would find it useful.
This is a classic work by Watchman Nee, a Chinese christian.
Please feel free for bug reports. Thanks.

Sorry to pour cold water on this.
Since he only died in 1972, isn't this work copyrighted?

I am not sure. I downloaded a few different versions online and thought that it is in public domain.
One of the link is here: http://www.ccel.org/ccel/nee/normal.html
Please tell me if I am wrong. I am not using this ebook version to convert to PBB but something else.
Thanks a lot.

If you go to CCEL, click on Browse>Author>N and expand Watchman Nee The Normal Christian Life has a copyright symbol beside it.

If you click on the "more information" link on that page it shows that it was copyrighted in 1961.

I'll bet Watchman Nee wouldn't be concerned one bit whether it was copyrighted or not since he was concerned more with preaching and teaching the word than peddling the gospel.

I most certainly will not bet against you there. I only point out that the Copyright signal is there and leave it up to each persons own decision, The full copyright information on their website is
Normal Christian Life
Copyright: Copyright Angus Kinnear 1961. Used by permission of Kingsway Publications, Eastbourne, England.[EDIT] by the way I did take a look at the file to see how well you converted it over. It looks awesome! Great job.

I don't know if this sheds further light but at archive.org, this is the download page:
http://www.archive.org/details/TheNormalChristianLife_599 It appears to be "open source". Whether or not that affects the copywrite issue, I don't know.

Presumably Kingsway will never enforce their rights when people are distributing this for free seeing as they gave CCEL permission but that doesn't make it "open source." If Logos tried to sell this they would get in trouble and could get in trouble for hosting the file here without permission. By trouble I can't see it being more than a sternly worded email but....

I doubt it. YouTube and other sites had a big legal battle about this that ended up with saying the poster of the information was legally responsible for the material and not the site that hosted it.
Either way I think it is best for someone (where are you Thomas :-)) to begin hosting files created by users and not post them in the Logos Forum. Since Logos is putting together their own PB distribution system it would seem considerate to have any files intended for PB compilation on a non-Logos website.

Stilltruth.com is ready to start hosting PB source-files in Docx format.
1. Create an account
2. Email me for upgrade in priveleges to enable posting a PBB and I'll set you up.
EDIT: Ah, that email would be tcblack at the website of course.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Sorry, guys. Copyright is more nontrivial that I thought.

When would it be expired? 50 years?
What does it mean when other site said it is not in copy right?
By the way, the copy I used is not from the CCEL, I used that only as an example of the ebooks I got. Will that make a difference?
Thanks.

Dennis:
Whether Brother Nee would be concerned or not is not really the point. Integrity is about ME, not him. Without the proper (legal) permissions, I am out of integrity.

Normal Christian Life
Copyright: Copyright Angus Kinnear 1961. Used by permission of Kingsway Publications, Eastbourne, England.Noticed copyright permission from England. Found => http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p10_duration that includes "For example, in the UK most work is protected for the life of the author plus 70 years."
Wikipedia article => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchman_Nee shows human life on earth ended May 30, 1972 (so adding 70 years, copyright expires May 30, 2042)
Keep Smiling [:)]

That may be true in the U.S. but Logos would still need a functioning DCMA feedback system by which copyright holders could request that material be removed. In other countries it is illegal even to link to copyrighted material never mind host it. I'm not sure what the U.K.'s law is but seeing as Logos has a presence there they would be responsible for following U.K. law. Either way you are depending on the good will of Kingsway in order to provide this book.

So I should remove the docx. How can I do that? Or can anyone from Logos can help me to remove it?
Thanks.

I think you have to delete the docx and then rebuild Logos,
Blessings in Christ.

I believe you'll have to have Logos do that. Email David Ladiges and give him a link to this thread. He'll do the rest.
