Which should I use Logos 3 or 4?
I have Logos 4 on my main desktop. Love it. I have windows xp on an older laptop ( I plan on eventually installing Vista on it). I also have a little netbook that has windows xp. I do run logos 3 on both xps, but it is slow. My question is, can I run Logos 4 on windows xp? I don't want to waste time if it won't work or is even slower.

I use Logos 4 on Windows XP.. It isn't the OS that will make Logos run slow or fast, rather it's the older hardware. My XP laptop is a couple years old, but it is still sufficiently speedy for Logos 4.
However, Logos 4 will run slower than Logos 3 does on the same system. Logos 4 does more and uses more system resources than Logos 3. If Logos 3 seems slow to you on a certain system, then Logos 4 will also be slow or slower on that same system, especially during the indexing step.

Thanks. I haven't had a problem with xp and I didn't want to upgrade to vista as long as things are working fine. I think I will upgrade my ram though and that should help. I've used logos 4 so much on my main computer that it is hard to switch back to 3 on my little computers.

Logos 4 requires XP SP3. I currently use that with Logos 4 with just 2G Ram. If you decide to upgrade your OS, you probably would be better off just upgrading your computer. Windows 7 replaced Vista and Windows 8 will probably be out next year. Staying with XP seems to be a smart move, given that Windows 8 features change some of the computer requirements.

If upgrading the computer is not an option, then I would recommend to skip Vista and upgrade the XP directly to Windows 7. Since Vista is known to be a "resource hog", especially with an older computer I'd expect Win7 to run faster than Vista.

Agreed.
Do not go with Vista if at all possible.
Also, FWIW, I went from XP (L4 ran fine) to Win7 and noticed a marked performance increase. Everything else was the same except the OS. This was true on 2 computers. I know it is anecdotal, but it was my very real experience.

Yes Sally, definitely upgrade your RAM if at all possible. There's no way XP should be dragging L3 down. In fact, if you're not having problems with XP and there's no security issues, probably leave well enough alone.
For a long time, my itty-bitty XP PC loved L3 to death. Then for whatever reason one of its RAM chips failed (disappeared). L3 was no longer happy at all.
I replaced my highend U3 Sony with a netbook thinking it'd be 'downhill'. But L3 was thrilled and L4 slogs along, but only grumbles now and then.

I already have Vista in hand to do the upgrade. I bought my computer just before it came out and it was sent to me as part of the package. I never got around to upgrading and have just kept it in the box. My laptop works for me for everything else, so it doesn't seem like an option to spend money on an upgrade when I know I can get by with logos 3 if I have to. I would just like to use logos 4 if I can get it running reasonably well.
