Kindle Fire: $199 hummmmm
Sounds very very interesting. No 3g is a major it to Logos functionality, however. But then again I usually study around WiFi anyway. I read when out and about so it may not be a major loss. I'm wondering how their new browser will work with biblia.com.

Wasn't there something said on these forums about the Fire having a limited Android capability? Is this similar to what a rooted Nook can do or does Amazon limit it in order to somehow keep business on their site and format?

This is the tablet I have been waiting for! I love the weight and screen size. I want to read books on it, not play angry birds and watch Netflex! No iPad for me! Sure hope the Logos Android App will work on it. Any idea about this Logos?

I sure hope so. I'm gonna have a hard time not jumping into the Tablet market now. Certainly going to wait to see what Logos comes up with next Tuesday. Fortunately I have till Nov to see what additional functionality iOS 5 will give to my Ipod Touch.

Me too! iPad is too expensive, and so are the Androids too. Hopefully they manage to get Logos working in Kindle - Please?!

According to CNET the Fire runs on an older version of Android.

Article => http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/28/amazon-fire-tablet-unveiled-7-inch-display-199-price-tag/ includes: "access to: Android Appstore (though no access to Google's Android Market!)", wonder about Logos Android plans for Amazon Fire ? question already being discussed => Logos App in Amazon AppStore for Android?
Noticed Amazon's description includes:
Your Favorite Apps and Games
Angry
Birds, Plants vs. Zombies, The Weather Channel and more, plus a great
paid app for free every day. All apps are Amazon-tested on Kindle Fire
for the best experience possible.Keep Smiling [:)]

Really hoping Logos will run here. I bet Amazon is taking a loss on these (or no margin at all)

been salivating myself.
'course, I just bought a Kindle this summer. Actually two. I accidently purchased teh wi-fi version, which was the same price as the 3-G "special offers" version. Reasoned sending the wrong one back too expensive, so I kept it and purchased teh 3-g. Now I wish I wouldn't have. Even with losing money on teh purchase, I could have gotten the Kindle touch for about the same price as the old model. it needed touch baaaaad.
totally interested if the fire runs Logos. If so, I buy it. If not, I save for IPad.
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

So how or when do we (will we) know if the LOGOS Android app will work on this [:D]

Matt,
I thought we were all waiting for you to purchase it and then get back to us with the results. I endorse you for this project.
Sincerely,
Dan

We might also wait to see if there is someone who discovers a way to root the Amazon Fire. Not likely, without a SD card of some sort, but possible.

Apparently a $50 loss per unit:

Well based on this story it will run Gingerbread and will allow sideloading of apps via usb cable, so if true, it will be capable of running Logos out of the box.
Logos 10 - OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Windows 11, Android 15 & Android 14

My best guess here.

Boy I sure hope so. If Logos will run on Kindle Fire, I will absolutely w/o hesitation buy one. I have been waiting for a relatively inexpensive tablet t preach from. As a tent-making pastor and advanced IT engineer, I love techy toys, but don't spend money just to spend money. The Kindle Fire will be perfect to read books when I travel and is the perfect size to preach from *IF* Logos is on it. Else, the Kindle Bible books aren't good enough. Need to be able to bookmark and quickly search text for preaching. Nice thing about it is, it is much lighter than a bible, you can change font size in Logos for better viewing, and less bulky than having a laptop on the pulpit. I hope the Amazon people are reading this. There will be hundreds of professors, pastors, and lay-people who will buy Kindle Fire if Logos will run on it natively via Android. I am very excited about the possibilities here.

Welcome to the forums, Mike.
I, too, have been looking into tablets and have not yet bought one. I've been waiting for better screen resolution, or upgraded software to make the fonts crisper, for some time. My Kindle 3 has spoiled me.
But I agree that the Kindle Fire is intriguing, most especially because of its price. Still, will a 7" tablet be large enough to preach from? I don't know. It seems as though a 10" would be better, and rumor has it that Amazon is planning to come out with a 10" tablet (the "Bonfire"? [:D]) in early 2012. I've got a pre-order for the Fire, but I'm awaiting reviews and more thinking to see whether I keep it or douse it.
My main reason for a tablet is Logos, so if Amazon doesn't play nice with the app, it will probably be either an iPad 3 or Asus Transformer 2 for me.

Imagine having your Kindle ebooks (plus any other ebooks and PDF's), plus all your Logos Library all on one great little tablet which is portable, light, and powerful.
Android's newly announced Kindle Fire is sure to set the tablet world on "fire." It is going to be a great, great thing for many a seminary student who can't justify $500 for the Apple alternative. The 7 inch screen real estate is an issue that formerly I would have been leery of... but, having used a 7 inch NookColor successfully in all types of conditions, I would say that 7" displays are about perfect. For older eyes, however, each will have to judge for themselves. My eyes are not so good, but it works for me.
I have no doubt that the Amazon "cloud" issue will not be an issue (since the iPad works successfully without a SD card of any kind). Besides, Logos has submitted their app to the Amazon Kindle App store, so there must be a future.
The iPad is great, there is no doubt about that. But this diminutive powerhouse of a tablet is going to be so popular and so useful that a Logos app along with Kindle Fire will be a "barn burner" for sure!
