Logos I Don't Like Being Spammed

The add that pops up every few times I open Logos is annoying. That's what you h ave the home page for. I don't need another add and it really makes you look like a used car salesman.

No offense to used car salesmen. Unless I am missing it, please either stop or let me stop it with a permanent turn off check box!

Love Logos but I'm starting to feel like nothing more than cash cow to you my friends.

What about all those users who don't check the forums daily. They must be REALLY annoyed.

These alerts should be one-time alerts. This repeated barrage of garbage cheapens the user experience.

Well, I for one am thankful for these popups.

I haven't seen any of them, and without people complaining about them on the forum, I would have missed the upgrade offer COMPLETELY!

Well, that's not really true ... a few weeks back they sent a snail-mail advert.

But truly, I am most thankful to see from the above screen-copy, that Logos marketing still uses their most famous line: 'It's that simple!' (after a lengthy paragraph explaining it).

same with me. But since I have no L3 package, but the L4 Minimal Crossgrade, maybe the system thinks I'm not in their target group.

And that's probably right, since possibly losing the meager 15% "discount" doesn't scare me into buying a package - the affordable ones don't have interesting resources in them that I don't own already, and the interesting ones (Scholars Silver and up) are too expensive for me right now. I firmly believe that bigger discounts will be available sometime in the future - and if not, so be it.

If it was more precisely targeted, it would make sense. And instead of repeated efforts, better to do it early and a last chance way. Or like the update thing, don't show me this again with a box.

I can assure you, if it was targeted... they better re-aim!

I have Portfolio and I am getting pop-up messages on Upgrading.

Last I checked there was no further upgrade.[*-)]

Everyone is surely aware that the discounts are going away for upgrades. However, many just can't afford to upgrade at this time. Others, including myself, have decided that the next level of upgrade is just not worth it. Too many books I don't need, and too few of the ones that I do. I will better off to buy other resources that I want.

I would not be interested in going from Platinum to Portfolio at any imaginable discount. On the other hand, there are Logos resources that greatly interest me.

So drop the popup, please.

Agreed. A home page notice should be sufficient. Make it bold and colorful or whatever you want. But those of us who want to bypass the Home page and go directly to work in Logos really really want to do that, and not see popup ads. Is there a setting in Ad-Aware to block these? [:)]

Others already have the highest possible base package (Portfolio) and there's no way they could upgrade further even if they wanted to, so displaying that ad to them is kind of silly.

A possible solution would be that instead of having to turn off the feature completely, to maybe add a check box to the individual pop-ups that says something like "In the future don't show this again"

Yes, I agree that it is tacky and non-Logos like. It reminds me of another Bible software company that I do not use, and their marketing techniques are one of the reasons I don't.

"Due to website downtime and higher than expected call volume, we are extending our upgrade discounts through today. Don’t miss out!"

My whole reason for posting this was to generate this discussion. I read the Logos blog, I frequent the forums and I get daily email (it seems) from Logos. I follow Logos on Twitter and liked them on Facebook. With all that getting an ad besides the home page ads seems overkill and makes me feel like just a money pit to Logos.

I talked with a couple of friends who are also influencers in the Bible technology industry. They agreed that Bible software should be different. We understand the need to generate income for the product to improve and I even support that as an avowed free market capitalist. I do however also support the right of users to push back when a product we love as an easy to fix weakness that I don't believe will significantly impact the companies bottom line. In this case it would be a nice bullet point to say "we will never spam you with in app purchase popups". That will make the product more appealing, not less.
