I don't have any handheld devices.  I just want to read the book I "purchased" (a free one) on my computer.  But, I don't see a way to download it without one of the apps....  What do I do?

Thanks!

If you are using L4 it should download the next time you start L4. Or you can force it to download now by entering "update resources" in the command box

Lynda - First, welcome to the forums! MJ answered your question correctly, but I am wondering if you are new to Logos altogether? If so, let me explain.

Vyrso is the new "trade" book store by Logos. These books can be read on iOS & Android devices through the Vyrso or Logos apps. Additionally, these books can be read through Logos 4, a premier Bible Study Software program for PC & Mac. If you want to read Vyrso books on your computer, you can read them through Biblia.com or you can download the Logos 4 software engine (the software is free, you only pay for the resources). If you do not have Logos, you can download Logos 4 PC HERE or Logos 4 Mac HERE.

I still have logos 3.  From what I am reading here, am I understanding correctly that I can't read Vyrso books in my Logos 3?

Also, I didn't see a thread for this question so I'll throw it out here:  Since Logos was originally "Windows" based, why is there not an app developed for "WinMobile" devices?  It seems that would have been the easiest "first step" into mobile devices, and there are many professionals & ministry personell who use "WinMobile" do to its direct compatability with other common programs (e.g. - MS Word, Powerpoint, etc.).  Hence, Vyrso is now also unavailable to "WinMobile" users.

Not intending to complain, simply trying to understand and still work on a small ministries' budget.

You are correct Vyros books are not able to be used in Logs 3. I am very disappointed with this myself and just won't buy any of those books because I use Logos 3.

Since Logos was originally "Windows" based, why is there not an app developed for "WinMobile" devices?

No one uses a "WinMobile" device (less than 2% of market share). The market share goes to iOS & Android. WinMobile was dying and has since been discontinued.

You can download the L4 engine for free using the links I provided above. This will allow you to read Vyrso books.

[No one uses a "WinMobile" device (less than 2% of market share). The market share goes to iOS & Android. WinMobile was dying and has since been discontinued.]

    ----------------------------

This is not fully accurate.  Though it my now be a very small market share, when the iAPP was released WinMobile was still strong (I was watching closely because of researching before spending the $ on a smart phone, and I was hoping to have this available soon for my phone - I actually chose Windows-based because i-phone was mostly younger generations and Mac based and Logos at that time was primarily windows based with announcements of going mobile and Mac) and Android wasn't out yet (much less, strong).  And, no WinMobile hasn't been discontinued.  It has had recent new releases and I can still get mid- and high-end WinMobile based phones from my carrier (Sprint).

It was obviously deemed the best approach by someone in the company at the time (and I can respect that), but don't use false information to present a simple answer - that's not integrity.

It still seems windows-based (PC) to windows-based (mobile) would have been simple enough at the beginning for the market that was present at that time.  But I may not understand the programing end of it well enough (it's been a while since I was to deep in fortran and other programing).

As for using biblia.com, I haven't had much luck moving around in it easily and it is still internet dependent, not "local" on the phone.

    Hi Kyle

Is "WinMobile" the same as Windows Phone 7?

The reason I ask is that there was a recent(ish) thread discussing that platform - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28490.aspx.

On the second page there is a comment from Dave Dunkin (Logos Mobile Software Lead) - http://community.logos.com/forums/p/28490/302264.aspx#302264 - where he says that they are watching this platform but that have issues due to lack of C++ support.

Hope this is useful (and relevant!)

    Graham

Thank you Graham.  I am new to doing "forums" and somehow missed that thread.  I appreciate your help.  :)

Oh, I forgot the other part of your post, ... yes, Windows Phone 7 is a part of the WinMobile OS format.

    Thanks again.

And, no WinMobile hasn't been discontinued.

Not to be argumentative, but WinMobile has absolutely been discontinued. The last stable release was 6.5.3, released in Febrary, 2010. Microsoft has stopped work on the platform and has invested its energies in creating a new platform, Windows Phone 7. They are separate OS's and are incompatible.

It was obviously deemed the best approach by someone in the company at the time (and I can respect that), but don't use false information to present a simple answer - that's not integrity.

Kyle, I don't work for Logos, and my intention was not to present "false information." I am unsure what motive you think that I have, but my intention was to explain why I thought Logos didn't start with WinMobile. As I have said, it has been discontinued. It had low market share and was failing at the time. I don't know exactly when the mobile app came out (the earliest thread here is November 09, four months before WinMobile's last stable release), but as you wrote: "It was obviously deemed the best approach by someone in the company at the time" and that decision has born out to be the correct one.

In Fall of 2009, RIM (Blackberry) had 52% of the North American market; Apple 23%; HTC 5.6; and "other" (including WinMobile had 19.2%). What I don't know about those numbers is if other iOS devices (namely the iPod Touch) were included. In any case, Apple was on the rise. An interesting side note is that Andriod was only 3% of the market at the time, which explains why Logos went for Apple first.

Upon second glance, iPod touch numbers were NOT included in that number, which would have made the platform considerably more attractive to Logos.

Kyle - This is apparently part of the problem. Windows Phone 7 is NOT a part of the WinMobile OS. They are separate Operating Systems and are incompatible with one another.

I appreciate your responses, as I have no desire to be part of the emotional jargon I hear of on "comment lines" from news articles.  I actually didn't expect to generate much if any response here other than possibly direction to a thread more closely related to my question.  But I definitely appreciate ineteracting with others who know Logos and also mobile applications.

As the promoters of Windows based smart phones have kept me informed of upgrades & new releases, they have simply progressed from 5.** to 6.** to Windows Mobile 7.**.  I didn't intend to implying their inner workings were the same, but rather that the Windows based format/compatability was (though possibly moved from "air-cooled" to "turbo-charged - however effective the conversion may have been).  Therefore the market is still there (and in fact, from what I have read recently, is growing).

I'm am sorry if I communicated otherwise.  Again, I have no intention of a "chevy vs. ford" type exchange (as I perceive you don't either).  I do appreciate the interaction with all who have posted here.  I believe it would now be best to head over to the other thread mentioned above, though, so as not to further distract from the "Download to My PC" thread.  :)
