I mentioned that we’d have a new alpha today and I intended
to post one earlier this morning, but every time I was about to push one out,
one of our devs said “Hang on 5 more minutes, I’ve got a great feature that can
go in.” Bob even took the Mac team out to dinner since we were all working late
on this release: https://twitter.com/BobPritchett/statuses/5468069287

You can simply use “Update Now” in the command bar to check for
updates from within the app or just restart the app. If that doesn't suit you, you can always download the latest release from:
http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LBS4InstallerMac/Logos4Mac.dmg

Download is saying I dont have permission.

And I must be being thick, but I cant see that Update Now command option

    Can you try it now?

    Mobile Development Team Lead

    Yep, still says no permission.

    In fact says:

    AccessDeniedAccess Denied793E91F9FFC759DAfbtbkZbjxElAOjYk6vZIQUapNLxs+CYnn4cleKb3K00sL9MGpxneWpKaciCwOcN0

Thanks Tom! I'm excited about the forthcoming Logos 4 for Mac, and love the simplicity of updates. Keep up the good work :)

One more thing: The first pass at partial indexing is implemented. That means after your library is indexed the first time, adding new resources to the index should not take as long. I don't think any Windows builds have this yet.

This is also why the "Time Remaining" estimates are really far off at the beginning of indexing. It really won't take 100 hours, or 48 hours or 72 hours or whatever it tells you up front. Give it time and the estimate will settle down to something more consistent and reasonable.

Just download alpha 2, installed, started, logged in, program said "checking for updates" and froze (Activity Monitor indicated Logos 4 Mac "not responding").  Force Quit.  Restarted.  This time program froze on "logging in".

I'm excited about trying to be a first time Logos user, but so far I have to wonder why these alphas are being released when they won't even run at all.  And I'm running on a new, so far flawless, iMac 27 with a fresh install of Snow Leopard with all updates.

I don't except much from an alpha release, but I think it's reasonable to expect it to at least start running and let you do something.

Just followed the advice of someone else in this forum and removed everything Logos, restarted my iMac and reinstalled alpha 2 again.  Started it and the same thing happened: froze on "checking for updates" and had to force quit.

Disappointed it won't even run.  Makes me wonder why I plunked down hundreds of dollars now instead of waiting for a version that will at least run.  Hmmmmm

I can't download it either. Right-clicking on link gives me an access denied page.

I'm curious Richard. I have been unable to download being told consistently that "access is denied". How were you able to download Alpha 2? I for one, am very disappointed in the whole Mac/Logos process. Sorry, but having been a Logos user for a number of years in the PC world, and having recently migrated to a Mac (a decision I have never regretted) I was foolishly expecting more when Logos for Mac came out. Here I am months later, poorer and still trying to get Logos to work! Oh well, now, back to work.

    HI,

I think there is a typo in the link.  I managed to download with this link and installed the Alpha 2.

    http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LBS4MacInstaller/Logos4Mac.dmg

    The different:

The link with access denied error has the location as <LBS4Installermac>

The link which I download with has the location as <LBS4MacInstaller>.  It is the first link that I use to download Alpha-1.  I though I will give it a try and it works.  Hope it works for those with problem.

    Cheers

Joseph, thank you very much. This link works! I am downloaded Alpha 2 right now! Thanks again.

    Thanks Joseph!

To all, please just don't post comments like, "it crashed"  that is not helpful.

in Alpha testing, crashing it is a success.  That is the first step in finding and fixing bugs so it is stable.

For each crash, start a new thread, post a useful title to the thread, post your comments related to the specifics of the crash and then post your logs.  Without logs, reports and just complaints.  With logs, reports are solutions.

Here is a help thread on reporting

I don't understand. If Logos wanted us all to be alpha testers, why didn't they incorporate the ability to post log files in the alpha release? And if they didn't want us to post log files, then why did they give EVERYONE an alpha release version of their software? And why did they make it so difficult for the average user to add the functionality to post log files?

And why did they make it so difficult for the average user to add the functionality to post log files?
This may be why users are rarely given the opportunity to test at the Alpha phase.  I personally am thankful, but probably it is too difficult for the "average" user to understand what is happening.

I kind of have another take.  Given the number of people who post useless complaints instead of actual bug reports which help improve development, I don't know why Logos did a public Alpha either.

    PS

I just reread this post Mark. I am afraid it sounds like I am implicating you in this comment.  I assure you it was intended as a general observation to your questions and not directed to you or any specific person on this thread.

No offense taken, but I disagree with you about the posting of issues with Logos' software. Logos chose to make every Mac user an alpha tester. The normal process is to provide pre-release software to a limited number of individuals who are given proper documentation and instruction regarding the testing of the software.

For some reason, Logos decided to bypass the traditional route and make every user an alpha tester without even providing a minimum level of documentation. If people are posting their problems on the forums without any logging information, Logos has only themselves to blame.

Furthermore, I don't think Logos even wants the log information since they didn't provide that functionality in their global alpha release.

THey chose to give users the opportunity.  They did not force every user to Beta test.  If it is too difficult for you , don't do it.

Sure, and that is why users like myself are here trying to help.  But now that you know the process, you have no excuses.  Either post meaningful stuff or not.  That is your choice to be constructive or not.

They made EVERY Mac user an alpha tester by selling every Mac user that upgraded to Logos 4 an alpha version of their software. I'm just trying to use the software they sold me.

I'm glad you guys are trying to help. But don't ask a regular user that has been forced to be an alpha tester by Logos' decision to sell us alpha software to install a logger in order to post a basic question.

    Mark,

You can use the V1 engine if you have it.  Remember, the Mac engine, like the windows engine, is now completely free.  You only paid for resources.  There are three downsides I have noticed to using V1.  1) Logos 4 uses a different file format that V1 cannot read.  Any old resources that were redownloaded in the new format, or new resources will not work.  2) V1 needs to have its own set of resources.  3) V1 is limited to begin with [:(].  Also, keep in mind that (as far as I know) Logos is working to provide V3/V1 compatible copies of all new books placed in base packages and an update script to help V3/V1 users get a hold of the resources they purchased.  Logos is not trying to cheat you.  Be patient friend.

    Blessings

    Michael,

I'm not at all worried about being cheated. I just don't like being treated like a beta tester.  I don't like the fact that I paid for an updated version of the software and ended up with a virtually useless alpha, without being told beforehand that that was the case. I don't like that fact that I paid for an upgrade to the Original Languages package, and now have a version of Logos I can't use and resources that I've paid for that can't be used with my only partially functional (compared to the Windows software) older version. I didn't ask to be an alpha tester, didn't want to be, and yet to use the new resources that I paid for, I'm being forced to do so.

I do agree that pointing their Mac website to the 4.0 page instead of the disclaimer page was not a good idea.

However, Logos offers a 30 day monty back guarantee.
