BUG: Disappearing Hebrew Text (AGAIN)

I believe I reported this issue several point releases ago (maybe 4.2 or earlier). It was fixed for a long time, but it's back. For some reason, I lose my Hebrew fonts. I did a complete reinstall of Logos last time this happened. Have any other Logos users experienced or (more importantly) reported this issue?

I can get the text back if I reinstall the fonts, but for some reason they keep disappearing or get deleted (How is that even possible?). If I reinstall while Logos is running and then switch between SBL Hebrew and Ezra SIL Hebrew I can actually get the fonts back on the fly. However, they typically only "stay-back" for a short and indeterminate length of time.

I think is what I did by downloading and installing the fonts from SIL, no?... I'm not sure.

I still have the fonts up and working from the latest re-install of fonts from SIL. I don't have the SBL ones reinstalled yet. I am waiting to see if Logos says anything before I install the other Hebrew font. (e.g. Right now, I can only see Hebrew if I have L4 set to SIL rather than SBL). That way if they want me to try something "weird" I don't have to wait around for the fonts to go nuts again.

So strange that things would work for literally months and then out of the blue start doing this again. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. One day its fine, the next it keeps getting deleted. There must be some underlying issue going on that either is taking place within Logos or some other program.

I can't for the life of me think of a reason that fonts would be deleted. Why would that happen?

That may be the answer. Just checked; both Hebrew fonts are in the OS X Fonts folder in my system, and I have never had this problem.

I am fairly certain that I have had these fonts in my fonts folder before.

Wonder if Font Book shows any Hebrew Font conflicts ? After restarting Mac, wonder if order of opening programs changes font appearance in Logos 4 Mac ?

Also wonder about Font caching in Logos 4 Mac ? (have noted Logos 4 Windows may need font cache reset from time to time)

Should this show up in some obvious fashion when I open Font Book? As of right now everything looks normal except that the SBL Fonts have disappeared from Font Book.

Not sure... This I would need to do some playing around to figure out.

Do you have any other software that uses the SBL Hebrew font and may
be using a different version of it? We used to see this in our older
Windows program, Libronix DLS 3. A temporary solution in that case was
to reboot the computer (probably because the other program had been used
before Logos 3), and a permanent solution was to make sure both the
other program and Logos 3 had updates installed.

I responded:

I have Bibleworks installed on a VM
Fusion Virtual Windows Machine. Not sure what else I have that would be
using the fonts, except Word for Mac 2011. Since I reinstalled the fonts
I have not experienced this issue. I will let you know if it happens
again.

In regard to Melissa's question, I no longer use BibleWorks although I am now using Accordance. However, I don't think I've ever used Accordance for anything other than a Greek or English text.

I wonder if my copy of Logos makes a New Year's resolution to keep me out of my Hebrew Bibles. Then gets tired of my nagging and just gives in. [:P]

Okay... Maybe this is unrelated, but after two restarts I went to check the default Hebrew Font and now I can only select the SBL Hebrew Font. The Hebrew is showing up properly. So somewhere (in one of the two restarts) the SBL Hebrew Font came back, but also L4 stopped recognizing the SIL font.

Weird thing is that SIL is in the Font Book, but SBL isn't

OS X's primary font folder is located in the Library folder of the hard drive with your active System File. Unfortunately, OS X also contains other font folders, and you can sometimes have different copies of a font in other folders.

In Font Book right-click on the font in question, then select "Reveal in Finder". Cmd-Click the window title at the top center of the window. This will reveal the path to that font. If it is not in the Font Folder described in the above paragraph, move it into the correct folder.

Understand that these instructions may seem rather cryptic. If you need further information, just ask and I—or KS4J who never sleeps—will seek to simplify the steps.

Font Book can show conflicts between system library fonts and user library fonts (same font installed twice):

[:$] Personally learned have Arial Italic font version 3.05 in my user's library of fonts while Mac OS X 10.6.8 has newer 5.00.2x font version in system library.

Hovering mouse over font shows font suitcase location and version. Edit: right click on older Arial Italic Font has: Disable "Arial Italic" in menu so easy to use Font Book to disable fonts.

Don't feel so embarrassed—found something very similar. On my system Font Book showed SBL Hebrew once, but when I right-clicked and selected "Reveal in Finder", revealed two copies: a newer one in the User font folder and an older version in the system font folder. Apparently, there has not been a conflict, which is strange.
