Linking Different Types of Resources

Is there a way to link the Critical Edition of Q with my Bibles so when I navigate in my Bible to Luke 11:2, the Critical Edition of Q automatically navigates to Q 11:2?

And if anyone can think of a way to do that, here's a trickier thing I'd like to do: have three Bibles open and have one go to the Matthean parallel and another go to the Markan parallel when I navigate in the third to a Lukan passage. Yes, I have Aland's synopsis, but I can't figure out how to highlight my Greek text in Aland, so I generally just use Aland to help me find where to open my other Bible windows to ... can't we just link them all together?

Greetings, David,

You can try linking your Bible with commentaries (the critical edition of Q, for instance) by going to the "Resource Panel Menu" (the box at the top right with the down arrow under the image of the resource you have open). Open the Bible you want to link, click the down arrow in its Panel Menu, and select one of the Link Letters (A - F). Repeat this step for the commentary, assigning the same Link Letter. This should keep both Bible and commentary in step with each other.

Yes, I know how to link resources, but Critical Edition of Q is not a commentary on Matthew or Luke, so I cannot link it with the Bible in that way. I want my Q window to go to Q 11:2 when my Bible window goes to Luke 11:2.

You can't successfully link resources unless they have the same datatype (Bible reference and Q are different). Even then they will only link to the same Q reference or Bible reference, so you must manual align the bibles as per Aland without linking them.

I suppose I could build a book based on NA27 or on the Greek text of the Critical Edition of Q and then put different milestone tags in it, but that seems like it would be a lot of work. I was wondering if anyone could come up with a better solution.

Wondering what index(es) are in "The Critical Edition of Q" resource ? Likewise wonder if "Critical Edition of Q" has clickable verse references, which could be sent to a Bible Harmony resource to display text from Synoptic Gospels in parallel. Some Bible Harmony resources allow New Testament to be chosen.

That's the only possible solution I can think of, because the Critical edition only has one one milestone, and doesn't use bible milestones. However, I'm don't think it would work, because I think that a linkset can only use only milestone type at a time, so I don't think your PB would be able to link both to the critical edition and to the NA27 using different milestone types.

Ah, that explains why my first attempt at a personal book was a failure. I was trying to use two different milestone types and it didn't work. I am now working on creating a personal book with the Greek text from the Critical Edition of Q, but I am now just using Bible milestone tags, so I have the text formatted like this in Word:

This seems to be working - if I link this PB to NA27 and go to Matt 23:38 in NA27 it will open my PB to Q 13:35. I wish I didn't have to build a personal book for this, but if that's what I've got to do ... oh well. As for having different windows of NA27 track together with each synoptic gospel I guess I'll have to continue as I've been doing, with one window of Aland's synopsis open and linked to one window of NA27, then have two other windows open to NA27 that I manually direct to the other passages listed in Aland. I wish I could just highlight Aland's Synopsis and have the highlights saved to my NA27.

There's no reason why a PB can't use two different milestone types, I'm just not sure you'll be able to create a link using the two types at the same time. You ought to be able to create a milestone like this:

When you compile that document it will end up with both milestones, and you could link it either to NA27, or to the critical edition (though probably not both at the same time). That said, I've been doing a little experimenting with some Greek lexicons, which suggests it may be possible to link to two different datatypes at the same time - so if you build a PB with both Q and Bible milestones, it would be worth checking whether or not it works.

I would also be inclined to add links to the Q text if you have the time. The format should be ([[Q 13:34–35 >> Q:The Q Source 13:34–35]]). You'd then need to prioritize the correct Q text for your purposes (e.g. English/Unformatted Greek/Synopsis).
