Showing differences between versions when pressing F7
In the Text Comparison tool, it is possible to compare differences between one Bible version (the base text) and other versions by switching on the "Show differences" and "Show base text" options.
I'm sure that in the past I've been able to see differences between versions when I select a verse and press the F7 key. However, I've somehow managed to turn this feature off and I can't figure out how to turn it on again. Is there a way of doing this or am I mistaken in thinking that it's possible to show differences when pressing F7?

It is the two 'A' 'A'. you use these to turn "off" or "on", I believe this is correct

The two "A" symbols work in the Text Comparison box, but they don't appear to affect what I see when I press the F7 key.

it seems to affect both for me.
Are you running on Windows or Mac? What version of Logos?

Ok I see what you are saying, I do not see any way to change the settings when I press F7, all you see is the comparison of the text to text by versions. The ‘A’ ‘s only work when you go through the tools à text comparison….I do not remember there being any header when you invoke the F7, but then I may be wrong.
I could not find anything on the wiki thingiee either.....

Thanks for confirming that, Graham. It's interesting that it works for you. It used to work for me, but for some reason it doesn't anymore. I'm running version 4.5a (4.51.0.2048) on Windows.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Maybe we are not understanding each other. Here is a pic of ‘F7’ in action. You will notice there in no toolbar where you can make any changes to what is invoked by pressing ‘F7’
In the second pic you can see the toolbar[RED BOX W/ARROW] which allows the changes to various things associated with ‘Tools’ à ‘Text Comparison’.
So, lets see some pics of what others have so that we are all on the same page…ok.

Hi Room4more
Thanks for the pictures - it does help to clarify things and I see something slightly different on my system
As you will see while I don't get the option to change settings in the F7 popup window, the settings in the Text Comparison tool are honoured in that popup whereas they don't seem to be in yours.
What version of Logos are you using? I am on 4.5b B2 and I know Simon is on 4.5a

Thanks for posting those screen shots.
Graham's screen shot was what I was getting before (I knew I hadn't been imagining things!)
Room4more's screen shot is what I'm seeing now.
I'm not sure what has changed. Could it be a bug that's been fixed in later versions?

It could be but there is nothing in the release notes for 4.5b (beta releases) which talk about this and I can't think of a time when it didn't work in the way that my screenshot shows.
Just checked mine, and I have no problem at all.
Milford - can you clarify what version of Logos you are currently running? Just trying to check if it is the same as Simon.
Thanks, Graham

AHH yes – good ol’beta……I am running the current release for us reality people. The beta, as you show Graham, may be something that will be released soon. I was a little concerned…….
Either way, I am not too worried, I do not use it that often to really notice any changes….
Thanks Graham.

I am running version 4.51.0.2048 in Windows and can verify that the comparison in F7 is not working for me.

Thanks Jerry
I have created a post in the Windows Beta forum - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/46656.aspx - to try and get a Logos perspective on this.
Their technical people may well not see this discussion in the General forum.

Hi Milford - thanks for getting back

Interesting - your F7 popup doesn't show any crossings-out in any of the versions, which is what Jerry and Simon are reporting as well.
Do you have the compare version features set in the Text Comparison tool?
Graham

No, I just have "base text" set. Hope that's helpful?? Really strange, unless you have zeroed in already on the problem that comparing might be the problem.....

That is very helpful!
So you are seeing the same in the Text Comparison tool and in the F7 popup because you are using Base Text
Simon, Jerry and Room4more are also seeing the same in the tool and the popup but they are expecting to see something different because they have "Show differences" set. (Gents, if this is incorrect please advise)
I am seeing the same in both the tool and the popup (with "Show Differences" set) but I am using the beta of 4.5b whereas they are using the released version of 4.5a.
This does suggest that there may be a change in behaviour between 4.5a and 4.5b which, hopefully, Logos will be able to comment on.

Now, this is interesting.
Never tried it before, but I can do F7 while the Text Comparison is off to my right side...
They are different; -- one shows the strike-outs -- although that may not bear on this situation!
Peace!

Hi Milford, thanks for checking and clarifying.
Looking more and more like something changed between 4.5a and 4.5b

I've been able to reproduce the issue in 4.5a SR-1 and not 4.5b (as reported.) I'm not aware of any changes being made to either the immediate compare or the Text Comparison tool that would have caused this issue. I'll make myself a note to make sure that the immediate compare stays 'un-broken' in 4.5b until it ships to the stable channel.

Hi Tonya
Thanks for this - appreciated.
Sorry for not acknowledging sooner - I was away over the weekend.
Thanks for all the great work you do

Thanks, Tonya for finding the problem. And thanks Graham for taking an interest in this issue and raising it on the beta forum.

This feature still doesn't work for me even after upgrading to 4.5b (4.52.0.2176). Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? I really miss this feature and was hoping that the upgrade would fix the problem.

Wonder about a screenshot ?
Using Logos 4.5b (4.52.0.2176) on Windows 7, noticed Text Comparison and F7 are a bit different:

Hi Simon
This is strange!
When I execute the same test I get the inline comparisons as expected.
I wonder if it is Windows OS version related - I (and KS4J) are running Windows 7 whereas you are on Vista. (This isn't something we explored in the earlier discussion)
So it would be interesting to know whether anyone else running Vista and 4.5b gets the inline comparisons or not

There is an active case for Text Comparison settings not being respected in the Immediate Compare popup. I filed it during the 4.5b beta cycle since I was keeping an eye on it and noticed it right away (see Known Issues for Beta 6. It is also listed in the Known Issues for 4.5b.) [:)]
On Windows I see both display settings (show differences, show base text) turned on; while neither option displays on Mac. I had thought that was the pervasive behavior, but it is possible that the popup is showing the settings which were applied the last time it was functioning correctly. I'm not sure about that.

It is quite bizarre. It works fine for me on Windows 7 but clearly not for Simon on Vista (but I have no idea whether the OS version is relevant)
Good to know that there is an active case for this
Thanks, Graham

Thanks, Graham, for continuing to take an active interest in this issue. It doesn't appear to be OS dependent---I've just installed Logos on my laptop that runs Windows 7 and observed the same problem on it as well.
