Suggestions after my first week of Logos

Hello! I am a new Logos user. While learning Logos, I compiled a list of items I wish I could do in Logos. I'm not sure the protocol for submitting feature enhancements. Let me know if I should do something else with this list.

Thanks!

Reading Plan

  • Create a way to associate a
Layout with a Reading Plan so that I can open my preferred layout when
    clicking on todays reading
  • Need a way to specify
precisely what should be read on each day.
    • Logos automatically balances
reading plans so that you read the same amount everyday. However, I would
like to specify reading plans where I select what gets read on any given
      day. Perhaps a format like: (Ge 1-2)(Ge 3,4)(Ge 5-10) for a 3 day plan
  • Add the ability to specify
more than one book for a particular day
    • There is a popular reading
plan for reading the Bible and Catechism in one year where you read a bit
of each everyday. I could always make two reading plans, but it would be
nice to group together related books like this.

Text Comparison

  • I would like an option to
tell text comparison to compare verses and not chapters when automatically
    updating
    • If I link the Text
Comparison frame with my Bible, when read a new chapter, my software
shudders under the strain of Text Comparison diffing the entire chapter
in my top five Bibles. It would be nice to specify that Text Comparison
should not diff more than a single verse unless I explicitly ask it to.
  • Add "Text
Comparison" option to the right click Reference menu that sends the
current verse to the open Text Comparison window
    • When I find a verse in the
middle of a page I want to send to Text Compare, it would be nice to have
a way to send a reference to Text Compare automatically

 Info

  • Would like the ability to
automatically show footnotes and that automatically scroll with the
    current chapter
    • Olive Tree's software
      currently does this
    • It makes it nice to be able
to see the footnotes without having to click on the icons

 Home Screen

  • Have the ability to add
custom RSS feeds to the home screen
    • It would be nice to make
Logos my study center where I can see the latest posts on my favorite
      religious blogs
  • Have the ability to remove
    items from the home screen
    • Right now on my home screen
I can see resources that were updated a week ago. It would be nice to
remove items from the home page so it doesn't get cluttered with stuff I
      already read.

 Bugs

  • Fix Bible ranges that use
    letters
    • I already submitted this as
a bug. Try to specify the verse range of "Es D-8" to see the
      problem.

    Howdy Dan!

It's fine to post things here, but you might get more action by posting them individually into UserVoice/Logos...if memory serves, you must allocate one of your 10 "product enhancement" votes to each item in order to create it, so perhaps start with the ones you want the most...and then give links in your forum post to make it easier for folks who agree to vote for your idea.

There are some ways to do a few of the things you suggest, but you probably already know that and are instead suggesting a direct way to do them.  For example, I created a One-Year Chronological Reading Plan where I had some control over what I read on each day.  In order to do that, I had to create a different reading plan for each month, and when I needed a specific break on a given day in a sequential set of content, I forced Logos to break it by throwing in a reference to John 1:1.  It wasn't elegant, but it worked.  For example, Feb looked like:

    Feb:

    Ge 47:13-50:26, Ex 1:1-4:17, Jn 1:1, Ex 4:18-6:27, 1 Chron 6:1-4, Ex
    6:28-7:13, Jn 1:1, Ex 7:14-9:35, Jn 1:1, Ex 10:1-12:51, Jn 1:1, Ex 13:1-15:27, Jn
    1:1, Ex 16:1-18:27, Jn 1:1, Ex 19:1-21:36, Jn 1:1, Ex 22:1-24:18, Jn 1:1, Ex
    25:1-27:21, Jn 1:1, Ex 28:1-29:46, Jn 1:1, Ex 30:1-33:6, Jn 1:1, Ex 33:7-36:7, Jn
    1:1, Ex 36:8-38:31, Jn 1:1, Ex 39:1-40:38, Lev 1:1-4:35, Jn 1:1, Lev 5:1-7:38, Jn
    1:1, Lev 8:1-10:20, Jn 1:1, Lev 11:1-13:46, Jn 1:1, Lev 13:47-15:33, Jn 1:1, Lev
    16:1-18:30, Jn 1:1, Lev 19:1-21:24, Jn 1:1, Lev 24:1-25:55, Jn 1:1, Lev
    26:1-27:34, Num 1:1-2:34, Jn 1:1, Num 3:1-4:33, Jn 1:1, Num 4:34-6:27

Dan, welcome to Logos. This is a very well thought through list....

As for the request to automatically show footnotes, this is possible. Just launch the "Power Lookup" window from the "Tools" menu...

Also, your Bible reading plan can do more than one book for the day. You just put a vertical line between readings. This is one that I have done for example that everyday has me in the OT, the gospels-Acts, and Epistles simultaneously: Ge–Mal | Mt–Acts | Romans-Rev

+1 [Y] for optional limit of verses in Text Comparison; would also be appreciated for Exegetical Guide: Word by Word section.  Ideally with initial default of 1 or 2 verses.

Wonder about changing Text Comparison to follow or none ?

Default layout from Hone Page GO includes Text Comparison in link set with Bibles and Commentary.

+1 [Y] plus would be appreciated if could customize timeframe for items appearing on Home Page (e.g. how many days to display instead of weekly boundaries).  Logos User Voice suggestion => additional layout customization

Logos has User Voice suggestions => http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4 that can be searched for similar ideas.  Every Logos user has 10 votes, with maximum of 3 votes for an item.

Also wiki => Getting Started with Logos has many Tips and links.

    This is perfect! Thank you!

Also, your Bible reading plan can do more than one book for the day.

I saw that in the tutorial, but I wasn't referring to Bible books when I said more than one book. I meant something like "NAB(ge1-5)|CCC(1-10)" to do parallel readings with the NAB Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

When I submit this request I'll be more specific.

    I didn't know about F7. Nice!

Follow falls into the same trap of trying to compare entire chapters. For now, I'll set it to none and will use F7 for verse compare and manually input ranges into Text Comparison as needed.

    Thanks for the tip!
