Proclaim VS. ProPresenter

Since Proclaim's tutorials are sparse and seriously insufficient, I cannot tell if buying "Graceway's Total Media" for $399 (same price as a single-user license for ProPresenter) offers all the many video/media etc. options that ProPresenter does.  Someone said Proclaim will not even run a PowerPoint presentation.  Are they kidding?  Since I already use Logos 4, we were intrigued by the collaborative features of Proclaim, but one can use the CLOUD technology (Cloudme.com) to collaborate on ProPresenter which offers the full suite of features one needs to do ALL the things Logos "proclaims" to do w/ this software (sorry for the pun). $399 seems a little steep to pay for just a few features like importing song lyrics with predesigned templates (there are plenty of places to get those).  Can a LOGOS TECH (or anyone knowledgeable) please give me a COMPLETE LIST OF ALL THE FEATURES OF PROCLAIM (details are not included in the intro video) with an explanation why one cannot IMPORT STANDARD PRESENTATIONS LIKE POWERPOINT OR VIDEOS into it, like you can on ProPresenter?   (I really like the Logos 4 software ... tremendously useful and complete ... and thought Proclaim would be the same.)  If most (if not all) the features in a program like ProPresenter are PLANNED TO BE INCORPORATED IN THE FUTURE, can you also elaborate?  Thanks much!

There is no reason to buy anything from Graceway to use the features of Proclaim. Graceway just supplies resources and is easy to access with Proclaim.

Someone said Proclaim will not even run a PowerPoint presentation.  Are they kidding?

No! but Power Point (and we hope Keynote) presentations are to be included in a future update. In the meantime exported powerpoint slides can be used in 'slideshow' mode.

$399 seems a little steep to pay for just a few features like importing song lyrics with predesigned templates

$399 is the price of the Graceway resources - not the price of a Proclaim licences - see above.

    No need to shout!

    Thanks for the reply, Mike!

I understand ... so what can I use with just the "On-Air License"?  Can we share/access anything (videos, PP presentations, etc) through their "cloud" feature?  And can content from my Logos 4 be seamlessly imported?  BTW, are you one of the techs for Logos, Mike, or helpful user (just curious) ... really appreciate your help.

    Hello Rev. David Kirschke,

Let me answer some of your questions. The 'On Air' license allows you to show your presentation on the screen, removing the watermark. The cloud feature allows you to share your presentations and any media you upload into those presentations. Mike was spot on in his comments. The $399 is for access to Graceway media through Proclaim, but you can use your own media by editing a slide background by adding an image. You can also add content from Logos 4. This is done by right-clicking on an image or quote in Logos 4, while you have Proclaim open in the background. You will see an option that says "Send To Proclaim", which will drop the image or quote into your presentation.  Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Hi Rev. David Kirschke,

We also use Pro Presenter but are in the process of slowly transitioning over to Proclaim.  I know the new version 5 of ProPresenter is rolling out but we chose not upgrade at this time.  Proclaim is in it's infancy and cannot do anywhere near the things that ProPresenter or Media Shout can do at this time. Proclaim is starting out very much like Propresenter and Media Shout did.  As "Stand-Alone" programs designed to be used "instead" of Powerpoint.  But as Media Shout, ProPresenter, and other programs have discovered, Powerpoint integration is the make or brake software of the presentation world.  So, the Proclaimers are currently diligently working to get this issue resolved. So, as for now, Proclaim as others have already mentioned cannot run Powerpoint, DVD's, or CD's, as ProPresenter & Media Shout can.  It can run video clips that have been previously "ripped" from the discs into a clip edited to your liking and uploaded to the cloud.  The great thing about Proclaim is the cloud and it's future.  If you are in full swing using Pro or Media Shout then you will more than likely become very frustrated with Proclaim until you familiarize yourself with it.  That would include "workarounds" for the things that you do in ProPresenter.  Another great thing about Proclaim is that you can download it and use it free to familiarize yourself with it.  You must be VERY PATIENT or you will not make it through the process.  Currently we are just using Proclaim for mid-week simple services and nothing too "complexed".  This is because we are not that familiar with how to get some things in Proclaim to do what we want them to do.   I do know that there are others who are using Proclaim to the fullest of it's capabilities.  It all depends on your patience level and your specific scenario.  As you've already discovered the "tutorials" and all of the available "information" is sketchy at best.  I have found that this forum is an excellent tool to get the information that you need.  You will need to be patient in finding the info you need in this forum as it is a bit of a challenge.  One more thing... You can also use both ProPresenter & Proclaim until you are ready to "cross over".  We love Proclaim for all of the obvious reasons and are somewhat patiently riding the wave of progression toward a better future...

    Hi David,

I see that most of your questions have been answered. But just to explain what I do. I have a legacy Sharefiaith  Account and I use a number of their resources by downloading them onto the desktop and using Proclaim to upload them to the cloud. I use quite a lot of downloaded YouTube videos using the same method. I have some Igniter videos that I also use.

$399 for Graceway seems an awful lot for media with so many spelling mistakes in it.  :-)
So the store option really just gets in the way and is by far the biggest annoyance with using Proclaim.

are you one of the techs for Logos, Mike, or helpful user (just curious) ...

I got the Red Box (danger warning) and White Star (note the danger warning) for being a 'helpful user' during the Logos 4 Mac Alpha and Beta phases.

They let you keep it even when posting in forums about things you know little about.

    Hi, Ps3!

Didn't get your name, but thanks for the info ... that really helped.  I went ahead and got the "on air" license since it's so cheap, and we'll just try it out and see.

I do have one more question with using it however:  Is there a Password we (or Logos) require so not just anyone can get into the process and interfere with the collaborating members?  Maybe the answer is in the Q&A area somewhere ... I just haven't seen it.

    Thanks again ... and Blessings!

As I understand it – that facility comes with paying the fee.

However I have not looked into availing myself of it just yet.

    Hi David,

I glad to hear that you went ahead a made the plunge.  It is worth it.  For the price, it really is a great tool.

Yes, once you pay the "On-Air" fee you will automatically be switched over to a "moderator" access for your group.  This will give you control over who has access to your group/editing of the presentations of that group.  The fee is paid "Per Group" that you set up.  It's not a one time fee for unlimited groups under your account.

    God bless,

    Shell.

    Matthew,

This is David Kirschke again.  I hadn't replied with test results (as per UR suggestion) because we quit trying to use Proclaim on the long videos (50 min) that we were using for Sunday School.  In the meantime, we've continued to have even a worse problem---Proclaim is totally unusable.  I've been in Europe for a month, and when I returned, discovered that Proclaim will load content fine, and even begin to work (sometimes) in a service, but less than 20 minutes into "On Air" it gives the message "Unauthorized Location" or something to that effect.  I made sure the monthly license was renewed, even uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled the software (on a couple computers) ... and NOTHING WORKS!  What is the deal?

Obviously, we cannot continue with such consternation disrupting the church service.  The videos are not the problem. We have done nothing different from the past.  Videos are short & not the problem---NOTHING WORKS!

It seems will have to begin using ProPresenter unless you can give us a decisive and permanent solution to this problem.  (We cannot be the ONLY ones who have had this problem).

    Thanks for your attention ....

I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble with Proclaim. Does the "Unauthorized Location" message you're receiving look like this?

    image

That message simply indicates that you have not entered a location to base your signals from. In order for them to be properly broadcast from. If you are not using signals, this message can be ignored (and closed by clicking the x).

When you say that nothing works, are you indicating that the application is crashing, or that the functions you're looking for are missing or inoperative?

    Thanks,

Thanks, Hunter ... Dave Kirschke here.  Yes, we received that box, and I'm trying to get the rest of the answer to your question for you from Shannon Pickard, the staff who heads that area of media (re: the application crashing or various functions).  I believe nothing worked (froze) but I'll find out for sure.  I have a question: Before I left for overseas, I emptied the CACHE out of the Proclaim folder in the Application Support because not retained every video, etc. from months past and was literally gobbling up 6-10 GB of space.  That seems to be an area you all should look at and improve (in the future), but for now, could that have anything to do with the dysfunction on the other computers  ... I assume they have the same content loaded in the caches of their computers (also MacBook Pros)?  I backed it up ... do I need to reload all of that old CACHE content?  Thanks ... awaiting your reply ... still haven't invested in ProPresenter yet, as I really like the concept of Proclaim if we can get it to work.  Blessings!

OK, they said the "whole thing crashed and shut down and you had to restart it."  So, what does that indicate?  Thanks .... awaiting your reply.

IMHO, A better question is what does this indicate to you and your team?

I think qualifications in 'Proclaim' are quite hard to come by. Experience - well that's another thing.

In order to answer a question such as 'Why does my system crash?' a little more information is required.

It would be a good idea to ask your media person to post direct to the forum rather than going through a third party.

I might suggest that if she posted the crash logs at the same time it would allow one round of postings to be missed out.

Yes, it would be very helpful to see the log files generated by Proclaim during the crash.

    Follow the directions here http://community.logos.com/forums/t/39446.aspx

Instead of creating a new thread, reply to this one with your Proclaim.log file.

It's hard to say whether or not the media cache is related to your crash without log files. There shouldn't be a need to delete the cache, generally.

    Hi Hunter,

I am the head media guy at LifeWay Church with Pastor David Kirschke.  We use my computer for church but last Sunday the Proclaim program would try to load, but then just shut down with the error message "Proclaim Quit Unexpectedly"  I tried to reload it multiple times but to no avail.  Then even trashed the application and re downloaded from your site.  But still, same problem.

I followed your link to get the log.  Here is the Proclaim Log

I also have log files that say Proclaim Crash, and Proclaim Error

But the instructions say to post Proclaim Log so here's that file.  If you need the other ones let me know.

    Thanks,

    Shannon Pickard

It would probably be best if you could call us at 1-800-875-6467 from 6 am to 5 pm PST.

We will likely want to remote into your computer so that we can see exactly what is going on.

    Thanks,
