Linear Lyric Order

Can the song lyrics only be presented in the linear order set up in the song file ' Lyrics - Slide Order(1, C, 2, C, 3, C)?? In "Preview" I see I can click on a slide in any order on the timeline & it will GO to screen. Is this true ON AIR as well. Like it or not my Music Minister gets "in the Spirit" occasionally. Jumping back a verse or chorus. Jumping forward. Drives me nuts, performers are adjusted to it... He IS an awesome MoM. Currently I use an older software where once song is clicked; verses drop down & can point/click if need to.

Frankly I have had other performers go "off list" either by fear or,,,plain mistake. I am not fond of the rigid, Go on Next Cue TAP, formats. Working "Live" venues for years & finicky musicians/performers.....

I am auditing Proclaim for possible recombination nest week It may be near impossible not having the ability to say with experience what it wll/will not/can/cannot do in the On Air mode. I see ho that has to be due to the Cloud & open integration. Mught just have to take a leap of faith but not with my name attached,

Bill, Thanks for posting. Let me see if I can help with this. We do want to make sure you can follow the worship leader easily. First let me tell you we have an alternate view of the timeline coming soon which will allow you to see each slide from an enter song so you jump from one screen to the next more easily.

Until then I think your best bet to control this quickly as the worship leader goes somewhere you don't anticipate is to use the 'hot keys'. Each verse, chorus, or bridge is assigned a key which will get you back there quickly.

To answer your question, yes, it is true ON AIR that you can click on any slide in the time line at any time. You do NOT have to stay 'in order'. You can always test this by going On Air with a watermark before purchasing. Simply click, On Air, and choose "go On Air with a watermark". I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know where to clarify. I think you are going to love the new full song view. We'll let you know when it's available.

Oh, those pesky music leaders. I sympathize.

The hotkeys have been a lifesaver for us. We use a lot of songs that aren't in the Logos database, so when I put them in, I code the parts with [1-Verse 1], [C-Chorus], [B-Bridge], and so forth. That way I can name the parts anything I need to. Those show up under each of the slides, so the person running the presentation can see what the hotkeys are immediately (1, C, and B, respectively) and jump to whatever slide is needed. The hotkeys are limited to the song you're currently in, so you don't have to worry about hitting 1 and having it take you to verse 1 of the next song.

This does have the disadvantage that you have to figure out what the musicians are actually doing before you can move to the correct slide. I hope there will be a five-second time warp technology in a future version of the software. :P

Thank you very much for this. I was literally getting ready to advance this post to this question. I am on my 3rd Worship Lead in 6 years, (volunteer, salaried, volunteer) Our "salaried" WL was the most "creative". He would often "tag" songs...double up the last 2 lines of a chorus to end the song. Me, I am a drummer + tech. Not a worship leader etc... So silly me I assume everyone will lead the song the same way. Maybe it's just us (something in the water) bet each WL has done some songs differently. So much so I quit trying to permanently arrange the songs in A-B-C-D-E lyric order. I have my written song list every week & before practice I get w/ the leader de jure & have them tell me the order they wish to do each song { 1, 2, C, 3, 4, Cx2} I write this order beside each song & hand to my video tech just before final Sunday AM practice. This may seem crazy to others but that;s US. Current (but old) software is great. Tap the song slide & the lyrics open in a bin below. Just point & click according to List I provide video tech. This non=linear flexibility was/is a major issue for us in choosing next software. Being a very small church for multi-media, an illness, someone moving...does not take much to completely scramble who's doing what (ex...Tech Dir who is often also drummer)

The "salaried" WL was also the 1 who went off "in the spirit" occasionally I was also the drummer then...well for musician, video tech, accomp vocalitsts...we called it something a little different.

Can you tell me a little more of what you mean by "coding them". I made the assumption it was something else when I posted repky in forum. Now I've gone back & looked at the songs & not quite sure how you do so.

It does not matter which order the verses and chorus of a song are entered as long (if you don't want to stick to the order) that they are coded.

Mike's screenshot is exactly what I was talking about. 'Coding' is probably too grand a term for it. When I enter the lyrics for a new song, each section gets a header of sorts on the line just above the lyrics, as in the screenshot. When I was starting, I couldn't find any instructions for it, so I came up with the solution of the tag in square brackets.

The slide order field autopopulates with the tags exactly as entered, but the hotkeys also work there, too. In the lyrics box, I use [1-Verse], [C-Chorus], [B-Bridge], and so on, but in the slide order field I just type 1, c, 2, c, b, c (which is how the vast majority of our songs go ).

I believe I have it. You have to understand, I went ahead & asked pastor to put his "card" on the On Air License when he is back tomorrow (Fri)

My previous software..we would download to a txt file, then import it into an Editor. Extra step but not a huge deal. Then when it was saved into the software's database it was in it's own txt file.(ptf) There is going to be some thinking through, re-structuring all my media files. Previously held in the Program File, moving or renaming any file would wreak havoc. Now with the Song Select integration I think we(I) will download most straight from SS. There are a few old congregation favorites in a file.

Pardon me, I am having to think this al through after using the same presentation software(Sunday Plus) since 2001. It served our unique needs very well.

I feel for you Bill, it is hard enough when churches have 70's style praise bands. Think how hard it will be when they move to 80's style Rap, 90's house, and naughties techno. [;)]

Yep. I usually tag them as [C-Chorus] and [A-Alternate Chorus], because the hotkeys look at the first alphanumeric character in the tag. You could tag them as [Chorus 1] and [Chorus 2], and then hitting C would cycle between the two sections.

Ok, I was up at the church today, had this happen m tried to enter Hot keys & got it wrong, Now I think I see why,

There is an old song, probably considered a hymn , but we have our own arrangement. I imported the text files & everything loaded the editor fine. Verese& chorus there just with no heading. Over the 1st lyric line I put my "key" info, Well that's exactly what I got, Chorus was the 1st line of ...Chorus.[:^)] Doh!

So by putting a tag [ on either side - that "codes" it. (besides a drummer I'm also a hardware guy. Software types studied in a different bldg w/ khaki pants on )

Once done the 1st letter appears in slide order field in it's order. So ok, all I should need do is bracket those lines. I know it would seem to make a Lot more sense to do these things & right then check the forum...What can I say? Been really hit & miss, busy days.

Slide Order Field - if Song Select drops a song in a slightly different order than performed ex... C, 1, 2. 3. I can just drag them around into our order in the field? What is the quickest way to Copy/Paste C into the slot behind each verse ex.. I, C, 2, C, 3, C.?

If I guess ahead - do I CUT all of Chorus incl [code line] in the text field & then paste between each lyric?? Or is there any shortcut move?

Sorry I took so long to get back to you- I missed your reply.

Yes, putting the square brackets around the tag makes it a tag; otherwise it's just interpreted as lyrics. There are some kinds of tags that don't need this (VERSE 1, VERSE 2, CHORUS, etc.), which is how the official song databases are coded, but since that's not documented anywhere, I couldn't give you a complete list. With the square brackets you can call it whatever you want- [foo], [bar], [fhqwhgads], whatever- and the hot key will be the first character inside the bracket.

The quickest way to add a chorus after each verse is probably just to type the hotkey (" c, ") into the order field as required. The whole bracketed line works, too, if you're feeling ambitious, but as long as your tags all have a unique first character (and therefore a unique hotkey) you'll be fine. It won't be long before you'll be typing "c, " with the speed and precision of a ninja because you will probably get lots and lots of practice.
