Bug: Creating new notes documents using the iPad app
Hi
When creating a new notes document using the "+" button in the "Note Documents" dialog box, the new Note Document is not selected when returning to the dialog box.
It would be more intuitive if this were done.
Is this possible to include in a later release?
Thanks, Graham

Hi Graham,
I wonder if this is actually a bug. I note that when you create a new notes document (using +) it is added to the list of documents and marked with a tick (as if it is selected). As you correctly state, however, the new note document requires a further deliberate selection even though it is already marked as active.
The tick suggests that the behaviour you report is not by design.

Good point - I have updated the Subject field to flag this as a bug!

Just noticed this myself. Has to be a bug.

Hi Graham,
The Note Documents UI has changed a lot in Logos Suite 3. Newly created Note Documents appear at the top of the list and can no longer be "selected" - in effect, the newest Documents always appear at the top which seems to be pretty intuitive. Thanks for your input!

Thanks Kevin.
I look forward to it!

Hi Kevin

I aren't seeing this - having just downloaded v3.
When I try and create a note and click on the right-arrow in the Document box I get the same list of Notes documents that I got in v2.
If I then create a new notes file this is still not preserved when I get back to the Note dialog box
What am I missing?

It would be great if there was an ability to sort (by the way, sorting is a great feature when you click edit) by descending or ascending, not just by the particular sort criteria. When sorting by reference, the default makes the lowest numbered verse or chapter the first and so on. If I am going through the scripture systematically, I want the highest numbered at the top so that my notes can be the most recent. However, when I am finished, the ability to make the lowest verse most helpful to refer back. Make sense?
Overall, I love the new update!

Hi Graham,
Does this help? http://screencast.com/t/P0ru9UezVDqe Here a new Note Document (which contains Notes) is created, and then a Note is created inside of the Note Document. Once you return to the Home page the Note document appears at the top of the list in the Documents panel and can be navigated into.

Hi Kevin
Thanks for this - appreciated. And, yes, I see how that works.
However, I was interacting with notes in a different way - from within a resource. The set of screen shots below should demonstrate what I am seeing - keen to understand whether this is as expected.
In the first shot I am simply selecting a portion of text against which I am going to create a note
When I press the "Note" button, the dialog box which appears shows that a notesfile is already selected. It is the one I have been using but the purpose of this I am going to create a new one.
So I click on the arrow to the right of the document box and get the expected dialog box
I press the "+" to allow me to create a new document and type in the name of the document
When I return to the Notesfile selection dialog box you can see that the new notesfile is selected
However, when I return to the note editor, the old notesfile is still shown as active
So this is one issue - which has been discussed before - that creating a new notesfile does not automatically select it - even though there are indications that it has.
So I go back to the notesfile selection dialog, choose the new notesfile and it then becomes active allowing me to create the note I wanted
This is now visible in the resource as you would expect
I now try to create another note
when the note editor opens the recently created notesfile is active - as you would expect
but when I press the arrow to the right of the document box - to allow me to select another notesfile - the newly created one is not shown at the top of the list. Rather, things are just shown in alphabetical order.
So two issues on which I would appreciate comment:
- Should creating / selecting a notesfile as demonstrated above result in it becoming active in the note editor without the extra steps that are currently required?
- Should a newly created notesfile appear at the top of the list of notesfile in the selection box? It would be very useful if the most recently used notesfiles appeared in a section at the top of this box. I normally have five or six notesfiles active (as I am reading through different documents) and it would be really helpful if I could easily switch between them without scrolling through the alphabetically sorted list.
I hope this clarifies what I am seeing - appreciate any feedback / insights

Thanks Graham,
I see what you mean - I'll write up a case or two and send them to Development.
On your first question, it indeed seems that the last notes file selected should be the new active default since usually when entering Notes users will most likely be using the same document for multiple notes. On your second question, some might wish an alphabetical list and others a "sort by recent" list. I'll ask Development about the possibility of adding a sort feature to this dialog.
