More Greek & Hebrew Dictionaries in Word Study for iPad?
Will there be made more Greek & Hebrew Dictionaries/Lexicons available for the word study section on the iPad and linked to the word-study? At the moment I can only see 2 Greek dictionaries/lexicons which are LOUW-NIDA and DBL GREEK and one Hebrew dictionary which is BROWN DRIVER BRIGGS...

Currently not all of our books are available for reading on the mobile applications. However, you should also have access to the Enhanced Strong's Lexicon.
Do you see that in your library?
As far as which resources are pulled up for the Word Study guide, make sure your resources are properly prioritized as per here: http://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing

Hello Hunter, Thank you for your reply, but I checked what you were saying. I do have enhanced strings lexicon in my library including other lexicons like VINES, TDNT etc... I have also done the prioritization on my desktop as per your link. But when I select a word on my iPad in the bible and i choose LOOK UP and then BIBLE WORD STUDY in order to look at that Greek word it takes me to the word study page but then on top it only shows 3 lines. the 1st is the AUDIBLE version of that Greek word, then below that the 2nd line is LOUW-NIDA and then the 3rd line is DBL GREEK.... I fail to see VINES connected to my word study and also ENHANCED STRONGS LEXIXON or TDNT or any other resources, even though they are in my iPad library... If I click on my DBL then once the book is opened then there is links to the STRONGS and TDNT for example: "Str 1097" and "TDNT 1.689" but that is all, it also fails to have Vines...
But when I work on my desktop and then when I right click on a word in the bible and I choose "LEMMA" then it throws out for me all my prioritized lexicons and dictionaries like VINES, ENHANCED, TDNT, DBL, BROWNS etc....
Unless if this feature is not yet available on iPad? If so, will it become available in near future, because I find iPad logos to be brilliant, especially the split screen option and the passage Guide has thumps up, but for me the only thing which is lacking is to do a proper greek/hebrew word study with all my resources, which limits me big time to use LOGOS purely on my iPad when I am traveling for ministry....
Thank you so much for your help...

I know it’s not exactly the same topic but the short definitions displayed by Louw-Nida and the DBL are of such close results that it would seem natural that the defaults would be a little more diversified. Please see my link post. Also I don't see that prioritized resources has any effect on it, since I have manipulated them several times with no change.

Hey Anthony, thanks for your comment. I see what you mean and that is exactly what I tried as well. the prioritization doesn't affect it at all. I hope and trust that they will work on this in the next update. If I can have all my dictionaries like VINES, EDNT, DBL, BDB, TDNT etc in there then it will be great and then this LOGOS would be really worth while. The only main part which is lacking now is the GREEK and HEBREW study in the WORD STUDY section... I would also like it if they can add more english dictionaries for whenever we do an ENGLISH word search, above the default Meriam Webster dictionary.... FINGERS CROSSED THAT IS GETS UPDATED SOON!

Has anyone heard an update on this? One of the features that makes another product so helpful is that it allows easy access to Vine's, Mounce, etc. from a word highlight. I have those resources in my Logos library but can't access them from Bible Word Study on the iPad. If there is a solution I'm not aware of, I'd love the help.
Thanks.

I don't have a solution, but a work-around is to create a collection of lexicons in Logos on your desktop and then go to the reference box at the top of the Bible Word Study on the iPad and press the Greek word. Tap select all and then copy. Then go to basic search and tap in the box to select your collection and then press (or double tap) the Find box and tap Paste. Then tap Search on the keyboard and look for the lexicon you want, preferably with the lemma being a headword in the lexicon.Steven M. Tyndall said:If there is a solution

Hey Jerry, I understand what you are saying, but that is a lot of manual "work around" if you quickly want to do a word study - I love logos, but I firmly believe they need to improve this part of the APP! It will be so much more beneficial... If any administrators are reading this, are you guys aware of any updates which might include this request of ours?

Sometimes fixes like this require additional tagging in the resources, which if that is the case may take some time. I rely on Bdag a lot, which is available and is an excellent lexicon.

Most definitely. Adding more lexica would make the app so much more useful and valuable for studying.

So is BDAG fully available on the Ipad App - without additional tagging/workaround, etc.?

That's great! How about the full LSJ? Anyone know?

This is an issue that has festered for FAR too long. If someone has dictionaries that are available on a mobile device, they should come up in the word study guides. Very very few English and Greek dictionaries come up. It has been years since the iPhone app was made and it really needs to be fixed. In addition, Logos for iPhone should be able to allow the user to input a collection with a passage guide or a word study guide.
What is keeping these suggestions from being implemented?

[Y] I would also add, they should work off-line.

How many links to lexicons do you have in BWS on the iPad? I have the Platinum package and have three (BDAG,Louw-Nida and DBL Greek). I didn't know if this number is a built in limit or not. (BTW I found that if I link to DBL Greek I can follow links to TDNTA, TDNT and Enhanced Strong's.)GregW said:

Hi Jerry -
I have 3 (for Greek) - BDAG, LSJ and Louw-Nida, which follows the prioritisation sequence I have set up on the desktop. They are the same three that appear by default in BWS on the desktop (although you can then click for more on the link in the desktop BWS). DBL appears as the first of the "extra" lexicons on the desktop BWS. I am also on Platinum, but additionally bought BDAG and LSJ to enhance my study.

My favorite Greek Lexicon Liddell and Scott works well on the iPad. Not sure it is linked to word study though ...

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE - The NEW Ipad LOGOS APP is out and is brilliant! They did a lot of changes!

Hi Erik and welcome to the forums. Liddell Scott does turn up in the Word Study. That's what the LSJ in my post was referring to.

To check this I carried out a BWS on the word "grace" in Philippians 1:2
In Logos 4 on my laptop the results are ordered as per my prioritisation
Whereas on iOS the order of the three lexicons reported is the same (but maybe by chance?) but some are clearly missing
This is effectively the point that is being made in earlier posts in this thread and the issue is still here

Truly this has been a problem on the iPad for to long.
My main issue is with the greek dictionaries since the BDB, Gesenius & DBL Hebrew very enough in what they list. In Greek "Word Study" it seems to ALWAYS defaults to Louw-Nida and DBL which largely convey exactly the same definitions (occasionally and I mean very infrequently the EDNT shows up but it always only lists two dictionaries while under Hebrew I always see three dictionaries). So my argument would be to dump the DBL and allow the EDNT or another dictionary from the pool of available (iPad enabled) works in ones' own library to take its place. No sort of collection or prioritizing has changed anything for me and we are looking at more than a year since I personally posted on this topic.
(I am aware that the translation wheel lists more but the click-ability in the definition book listing allows one to jump into a dictionary as part of the work flow.)

Any updates on this? I'd also love to be able to access more of my resources through the word study tool, namely kittel.

One thing I'm noticing is that, at least for Greek, it only lists two resources in a word study. If TLNT is available on the word I'm looking up, my two options are TLNT and DBL Greek. But if TLNT isn't available, then it defaults to DBL Greek and LEH LXX Lexicon. I know that LEH LXX is available for the words that TLNT has, but it only gives me two resources at a time, and it seems to prefer TLNT over LEH LXX (which I like much better, anyway). So this isn't a case of the iPad app not being able to access resources during a word study, but rather that it only displays two resources at a time.
I can say for sure that it doesn't go by the desktop version's prioritization, because this is not how I have it prioritized. And I, also, would love to be able to use my "Little Kittel" in an iOS word study.
