Are there any updates from Logos on The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible and The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation? I know that there have been other threads about this, but they seem to change subject before there is any answer. These would fill a huge void in my library, as I have no texts for either the biblical or sectarian texts from the DSS. Please give us some kind of update...
Do you think it would be beneficial to buy the DSS New Translation as well, or should I be able to make do with the DSS Bible only
Depends on what you want to study. The DSS Bible includes the Biblical material, the New Translation includes the non-Biblical (Sectarian) material. Not the same thing.
Paul, I'm going to have to admit complete stupidity on the significance of Geza Vermes' translation ( see Dominick's discussion: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/54645.aspx ) versus Wise/Abegg here.

fgh, you have an excellent memory! Thank you.
This is great news that these are coming out finally. Hopefully, this will satisfy all of the links to the DSS in most of my resources!
'Dead Sea Scrolls Bible' integrates the Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical fragments into the Masorete OT and to some degree the LXX OT. It's most useful for its notes that discuss the differences in the OT text. Very easy to use; you can tie it in with your other Bibles.
I don't actually think that the DSS BIble uses any readings from the LXX or the MT, as it is only a translation of the DSS biblical material. That is what makes it so special. It also includes Jubilees, 1 Enoch, and books from the apocrypha. Whenever there is missing text, instead of supplementing the text with the LXX or MT, it just leaves blanks. I looked through it on Amazon.com.
Joseph, you are correct. I went in the bedroom and checked my copy. I'm guessing my edition is older since Enoch is only a discussion, plus no Jubilees. The bulk of the notes in the lower section are LXX varients. Quite an interesting book.
As I read your question again, maybe there might be some confusion in what's in each resource?
You hit the nail on the head - I thought the DSS New Translation book contained biblical text too. Thanks for clearing this up for me. [:)]
Well, it is possible that it is just a discussion, as I was just flipping through on Amazon. I was surprised to see Esther, since I knew Esther was not among the biblical books at Qumran, but when I looked at those pages, it was just a discussion about Esther not being there. This may also be the case with those you mentioned.
Now the DSS Bible is slated for release on 10/3. Thanks Bob! You get to be "the man" for the rest of the week!
Week?? More like a month at least!
Well, while I was making sure my orders are in (to long a wait to miss these!), I found another DSS one I didn't have. Goodness! And really good authors too. I'm soon going to be buried in Qumran.

Wow, that book is SUPER expensive on Amazon.com. This was a great find, as I had not seen it either! Thanks!
